Gymnastics Information

Refunds and Make-Ups

Each student is allowed up to 2 make-up classes per 8 week session. Make-up classes must be scheduled and completed before the end of the session. Contact Kathryn Dolan at kdolan@cityofevanston.org to schedule.

Progression and Testing

At the end of each session, gymnasts will receive a recommendation from their coach as to which level to register for next. Please do not advance your child without a coach’s recommendation.

WHICH CLASS IS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD? Tiny Tots

No experience necessary. Intended for infants and tots to explore the gymnastics equipment and move their bodies in a safe, soft place to play.

Gymnastics with a Grown Up

No experience necessary. This class is loosely structured for tots to work through the curriculum at their own pace.

Preschool Gymnastics

No experience necessary. Gymnasts will participate independently without a parent or guardian’s help.

Beginning I Gymnastics (Coed)

No experience necessary. Gymnasts will progress through basic skills on bars, beam, floor and vault.

Beginning II Gymnastics (Coed) & (Boys)

Coach’s recommendation or 1 year of Beginning I experience. Beginning II is an accelerated class for gymnasts with experience or who demonstrate potential for advanced gymnastics.

Advanced Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Gymnastics (Girls)

Coach’s recommendation only. For students who consistently demonstrate an extensive and well-rounded skill set, as well as a strong work ethic. Gymnasts must meet skill expectations on all Olympic events and be prepared to take their advancement seriously.

Private Lessons

Private lessons may be booked with any current gymnastics instructor for 30-60 minute sessions. Groups of up to 3 may book a private lesson together. For pricing and availability, contact Kathryn at kdolan@cityofevanston.

TINY TOTS

Tots will be introduced to the gymnastics equipment and practice their gross motor skills in the Blue Room. This class is very loosely structured to allow Tots to explore and move their bodies with the assistance of a parent/guardian and our Blue Room teacher, Miss Katie. GYMNASTICS WITH A GROWN UP

With a parent/guardian and our coaches’ assistance, your tot will enjoy free play on the gymnastics equipment, explore new obstacles courses, and be introduced to various ageappropriate gymnastics skills each week. PRESCHOOL GYMNASTICS

Our instructors work with children to improve their coordination, balance, and gross motor skills in a fun, safe environment. Gymnasts will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of new movements and activities at their own pace, and will be gently introduced to the more structured schedule and rules of school-age gymnastics classes. LITTLE NINJAS

This class is perfect for kids who love to move! Little Ninjas will run, jump and swing across the gym in each class, learning fun and functional gymnastics through obstacle courses each week. This class will focus on safe landings, spatial awareness and encouraging our classmates. Location: Chandler-Newberger Community Center Age: 4-6 yrs. BEGINNING I GYMNASTICS (COED)

BOYS BEGINNING II GYMNASTICS

Boys Beginning II Gymnastics provides an introduction to basic skills and drills for the high bar, rings, pommel horse, vault, floor and parallel bars. Advanced Beginning gymnastics refines many of the skills learned in Beginning gymnastics and introduces the more difficult progressions that follow from mastering the basics. This class allows gymnasts to continue to develop their skills and increase self-confidence while preparing them for the Intermediate level. Intermediate classes train a variety of advanced skills, while still practicing the drills, progressions and conditioning for even more advanced skills later on. At this level, gymnasts should be able to retain corrections from class to class, have a strong idea of their own skills goals, and be self-motivated to better their own gymnastics. The class combines with the Advanced Gymnastics group on Saturdays. Coaches recommendation only, call 847-448-8252. Location: Chandler Newberger Community Center Age: 7-12 yrs.
