POP UP STICK PLAYGROUND

Dare the winter and celebrate this holiday season frolicking outside, building forts and dens out of sticks and (maybe) snow! At this 6th annual pop-up adventure playground, Evanston nonprofit Purple Line Adventure Play will bring a truckload of sticks, as well as other interesting stuff for folks of all ages, abilities, and interests to play with. Bring your kids to experience the special excitement of vigorous winter play and don’t leave behind that inner child of yours! Warm clothes required. Location: Baker Park Age: All Fee: Free

FLASHLIGHT CANDY CANE HUNT

Santa has hidden candy canes around the Fleetwood- Jourdain Center. Bring your flashlight and help us find them! First we’ll decorate bags to collect the candy canes, then go hunting for them. Santa himself will make a surprise appearance after our hunt for cookies and hot cocoa! Location: Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center Age: 3-7 yrs. Fee, per child: $5

DADDY-DAUGHTER DANCE

Dads order your corsage and invite your daughter to our special Daddy Daughter Dance. Dinner,crafts, fun activities and dancing will give you and your daughter endless memories while celebrating Valentine's Day. CITY OF EVANSTON KWANZAA CELEBRATIONS

This year’s City of Evanston Kwanzaa Celebration will include local food vendors and artists, a family art and crafts area, community West African drum and dance circles, and a beautiful storytelling presentation of Seven Spools of Thread: A Kwanzaa Story by Angela Shelf Medearis, told by Dr. Stephanie Davenport, nationally renowned storyteller. The entire family will enjoy celebrating the first day of Kwanzaa with other Evanston families. This is another City of Evanston Community Sharing Event.

Fountain Square Kwanzaa Kinara Lighting at 12pm, followed by the Kwanzaa Festival and Storytelling Event at the Robert Crown Community Center at 2pm.

HOME BY SAMM-ART WILLIAMS

In honor of Black History Month FJT is presenting celebrated playwright Samm-Art Williams's uplifting, two-time Tony nominated drama “Home." It is a beautifully told coming of age story of a young black North Carolina farmer that is rich in detail about the African-American experience and universal in its reach. “Home” is concerned with what makes us human, and what connects us to each other.
