Living History at the Farm Park Saturday, May 14, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Location: Bobby Lanier Farm Park, 2660 Cross Country Drive Learn about the life of the common soldier during the American Civil War from members of the Volunteer Guard. Living historians will provide demonstrations and information on what the common soldier experienced during life in camp, on campaign and in combat. SUMMER CAMP FUN Safety City
Sports Camps
Monday to Friday, June 13 to 17, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Location: Farmington Elementary, 2085 Cordes Safety City is an education program for five and six year olds who will enter kindergarten or first grade in the fall. Safety City consists of short classes taught by community experts from Germantown Police and Fire Departments, Germantown Animal Control, Germantown Athletic Club, Operation Lifesaver, Safe Kids Coalition, U. S. Coast Guard, Tennessee Department of Safety and the Child Advocacy Center. Safety topics cover fires, animals, weather, bicycles, guns, pools, pedestrian crossings, cars and seat belts, boats, homes, and more. Children also travel about Safety City daily and learn to follow the “rules of the road� by riding bicycles or walking as pedestrians along its streets and sidewalks. At least one adult and several teenage volunteers supervise each group of students.
Germantown Parks and Recreation Basketball Camp

Happy Feet Camp Ages: 3 to 4 1/2 years This is an experience for young players interested in learning soccer fundamentals in a creative and energetic way. Don’t miss this week of pure soccer fun. Future Legends Camp Ages: 5 to 12 years Players are engaged in activities designed to give the complete camp experience. New skills, proper technique are taught in a fun way that expands player’s minds to new possibilities. Players learn skill concepts and how they relate to build a solid foundation. Players are challenged to learn new moves, positioning and fundamentals of the game.
Smashing Aces Tennis Camp Mondays to Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon Session I: June 6 to 9 Session II: June 13 to 16 Session III: June 20 to 23 Session IV: July 11 to 14 Session V: July 18 to 21 Ages: 5 to 12 years Fee: $120 per week, 10% discount for siblings Camps are loaded with fun, instruction, drills and games, along with individual and team competitions. Campers learn tennis fundamentals, scoring, rules and sportsmanship, using the USTA teaching methods along with equipment and scoring that are size and age appropriate. Tennis racquets, balls, equipment and water are provided. Campers provide their own age appropriate racquet, water, towel and snack for periodic rest breaks.

Farm Park staff and Farm Hand volunteers engage children in hands-on activities about sustainable living including organic farming, nutrition, recycling, alternative energy and environmental stewardship. Lego Master Builders 1 to 3 p.m. Ages: 5 to 9 years Fee: $200 Tap into your Lego Master Builder’s genius with daily Lego challenges, guided free-build missions, Lego car speedway races and so much more. Campers will get up and move with our interactive team-driven, Lego-based games and competitions. Your child will explore their imagination when they engineer mini figure zip lines, boats, cars bridges and other action packed designs.
Science Lab: Earth Science Rocks! 1 to 3 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200 Students will test and classify rocks, study and make fossils and make a model earthquake and seismograph recording apparatus. They will also study other phenomena like glaciers and erosion.
Drama Kids: Super Hero Camp 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 5 to 12 years Fee: $150 Join us for a unique adventure to uncover your inner super hero. What special powers do you have? Are you a super hero that we all know, someone like Batman or Wonderwoman? Or will you use your imagination to create a brand new super hero with powers we’ve never seen? Campers will have a blast making a one of a kind set design for the end-of-camp performance.
Lego Mindstorm NXT Camp 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 7 to 11 years Fee: $175 Learn how to build and program the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robots, the coolest robots available. Then use your new skills to meet such challenges as reacting to intruders, moving objects to different locations, following a trail and defeating your opponent at robot sumo. You don’t need experience with robotics or programming to begin your robotic adventure.
Morning Gymnastics 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 5 to 12 years Fee: $200 This Up-off Gymnastics class is for beginning to intermediate level gymnasts. Classes will use the tumbling mat for isolated skills such as back rolls, limbers and handsprings as well as more advanced tumbling and combination skills. The parallel bar focuses on upper body strength and skill development. Learn a variety of walks, balances and tumbling skills on the balance beam. Concentration will be placed on fitness and nutrition throughout the week. The camp will end with a Gymnastics Olympics where students compete for prizes. Each child will receive a completion award on the last day of camp.
Afternoon Gymnastics 1 to 3 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Fee: $160 Spend a week with Up-off Gymnastics exercising your body and your mind. Students learn basic to intermediate levels of gymnastics by moving and positioning their bodies on the tumbling mats and balancing, tumbling and walking on the balance beam. Proper technique is taught within a positive learning environment. Participants will learn how their body parts work together through pyramid building, body shapes and learning rhythmic movements. Join us for a week of fun, flipping and exercise.

9 a.m. to noon Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $250 Students learn how mirrors and lenses work and then make a kaleidoscope, glasses that see backward and a periscope that can see around corners. They will also learn how to focus beams of light and to make a series of pictures into moving pictures.
1 to 3 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200 Students will use physics and chemistry to make messy, gooey, fizzing experiments that enlarge, launch, change color and may even explode.
Minecraft Mechanisms Camp 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 8 to 12 years Fee: $175 Take your Minecrafting to the next level through engineering. Campers are introduced to the power of Redstone, the foundation of all advanced technology in Minecraft. Using motors, pistons, switches and diodes, campers build an exciting variety of useful devices, including Cobblestone generators, farming machines, devious traps and powerful TNT cannons. Campers take their virtual creations home on CDs for (Mac and PC only) at the end of camp. The camp is ideal for those with basic Minecraft experience, but new players are welcome.
Paintbrush in Hand, Toes in the Sand 10 a.m. to noon Ages: 3 to 5 years Fee: $200 plus $30 supply fee At this beach themed, hands-on art camp, campers will learn about the beach and creatures of the sea as we paint, sculpt, cut, paste and color. Create starfish that sparkle, crabs for our hands and paint a beach ball after stories we read. So dive on in, this camp will make a splash. Sign up today because it will fill up in a flash!

Young at Art 1 to 3 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200, plus $30 supply fee BeezyBodies puts emphasis on developing creativity and imagination with a special focus on skill. Students work with different types of paints, oil pastels, mosaics and weaving materials as they explore pointillism, silhouettes, self-portraits, canvas painting and other unconventional art projects. Each budding artist will present their original artwork to family and friends at the gallery showing the last day of camp.
Germantown Athletic Club Camps Full-Day Summer Camp at Germantown Athletic Club Weekdays, May 31 to August 5, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fee: members $140 per week, non-members $155 per week A weekly nonrefundable deposit is due at registration. Busy campers participate in exercise classes, arts and crafts, games, swimming in the outdoor pool and trips to the Germantown Community Library. Fifty-minute lessons are conveniently offered during camp each Monday and Wednesday morning for four weeks. Counselor in Training (CIT) Weekdays, May 31 to August 5, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fee: members $100 per week, non-members $115 per week Ages: Rising 7th graders to 15 years The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is available to those who want to learn to mentor younger children. Duties may include assisting counselors by leading and participating in camp projects, swimming and fitness activities. Responsibilities are assigned by Lead Counselors.

Campers create and design their own PC-based video game. Learn to code objects with events and actions, design a room and make a game with health, lives and scoring. Coach Johns Basketball Camp Monday to Friday, June 20 to 24 Full day: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Half day: 8:30 a.m. to noon Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: Members full day $175 or half day $115, non-members full day $180 or half day $120 Beginner and intermediate players learn the fundamentals of shooting, passing and defense. Students will spend the week sharpening their technique, learning a song and collaborating with peers. The week culminates in a showcase where students can show off their new songs and skills.
Adventures in Storytelling Monday to Friday, July 11 to 15, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 5 to 10 years Fee: $150 Grab your passport and spend a week exploring folk tales and fairy tales from around the world with theater educator, Ashley Bugg Brown. Students learn the art of storytelling through acting, movement, voice and mask making while learning to work together as an ensemble. The final day will finish with a short performance for family and friends. Staff will provide supervision during lunch for Dance Sampler students.

Monday to Friday, July 11 to 15, 1:30 to 4 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 Fee: $125 Can’t decide which kind of dance to take? Instructor Christina McKinney leads students through a sampling of different forms of dance such as ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop and musical theatre. Students also explore dance history, learn choreography, view dance on video and play movement games. Watch your child shine in an informal performance on the final day. Staff will provide supervision during lunch for students also enrolled in Adventures in Storytelling.

Learn how to take your drawings, doodles and character sketches and turn them into more animated design projects ranging from simple moving art pieces to more complex animated ventures. Carla Brangenberg, Director of Tennis for Smashing Aces Tennis, has 28 years of teaching experience and has served as a high school tennis coach for over 20 years. She maintains a PTR Master Professional certification and in 2011 the Tennessee Tennis Association named her Tournament Director of the Year. Carla is a USTA certified referee and umpire for professional and college tennis and served as an official in the US Open in 2014 and 2015.

Hay Barn Rentals The newest addition to the 10-acre working farm, the new Hay Barn Pavilion is an ideal event setting suitable for business meetings, retreats, training sessions, working lunches, weddings, receptions, banquets, social gatherings and holiday parties. The new multi-purpose indoor facility includes a beautiful reclaimed wood interior, dimmable lighting, full catering kitchen, restrooms, sliding carriage doors that open up to beautiful views of the farm, banquet tables and vintage chairs for up to 100, six rustic custom-made wood farm tables for serving and WiFi for audio visual needs. All Children’s Theatre: The Grapes of Wrath By Frank Galati from the John Steinbeck novel of the same name June 24 to July 3 Renowned first as a novel and then as a prize-winning motion picture, the story of the Joad family and their flight from the dust bowl of Oklahoma is familiar to all. Desperately proud, but reduced to poverty by the loss of their farm, the Joads pile their few possessions on a battered old truck and head west for California, hoping to find work and a better life.
All Children’s Theatre: Music Man, Jr. July 29 to August 7 Book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson Master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventysix trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure? The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in spite of himself.
