The Farm Park Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market, offering a wide variety of high-quality local foods, produce, meats, art and crafts. Special programming - including chef demonstrations, live music, performances and more - complete the market experience. Farm Park entry is next to the Cloyes Soccer Fields on Cross Country Drive. TWRA Mid-South Junior Fishing Rodeo

Saturday, July 4, events at 5 p.m., fireworks at 9:10 p.m. Location: Municipal Park, Exeter Road Celebrate the nation’s birthday with live music, moon bounces, games, crafts and refreshments. Then be amazed by a spectacular fireworks display. No rain date.

Bring a bicycle or tricycle. A size-appropriate helmet is required. Register online at Germantown-TN.gov/registration or weekdays at the Parks and Recreation office, 2276 West Street. No event day registration. The recreational event is sponsored by Campbell Clinic. The rain date is September 26.

Night Rider Family Bike Ride and Outdoor Movie

Saturday, October 10 Games and festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., ride at 7 p.m., movie at 8 p.m. Ages: all ages Fee: $15, includes T-shirt Location: Farmington Park, 2029 Cordes Come early for food, fun and games. Choose your own distance, up to a six-mile loop. Bring a decorated bicycle or tricycle. Glow in the dark bike gear and flashing lights are encouraged. A sizeappropriate helmet is required. Germantown Police will assist with the ride. Afterward, spread out on the lawn with a chair, comfy blanket and pillow and enjoy an outdoor family-friendly movie under the stars. Registration begins July 1, online at Germantown-TN.gov/registration or at the Parks and Recreation office, 2276 West Street, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is co-hosted by City of Germantown and the Germantown Area Chamber of Commerce. The rain date is October 17.

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 1 to July 31, no camp June 29 to July 3 Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $499, $15 discount for each additional child in the same family A deposit of $249.50 is due at registration. The remaining balance is due on or before May 8. Location: Houston Levee Park, 9777 Wolf River Boulevard Have an outrageous summer with Germantown Parks and Recreation. Enjoy fun-filled days at Camp Houston Levee packed with outdoor activities, guest speakers, nature education, field trips, music, games, arts and crafts and sports. Parents must provide a Germantown water bill as verification of residency and a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Refunds will not be given unless the vacated spot is filled. Campers must be six years old by June 1. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, firstserved basis. A daily snack is provided. Campers bring their own lunch. Mondays to Thursdays, June 8 to July 30, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 5 to 14 years Fee: $80 per week or $350 for five weeks Camps are loaded with fun, instruction, drills and games, along with individual and team competitions. Campers learn tennis fundamentals, scoring, rules and sportsmanship. Camps are for ages 6 to 14 years and use the USTA format of 8 and Under and 10 and Under tennis teaching methods along with equipment and scoring that are size and age appropriate. Tennis racquets, balls, equipment and water are provided. Campers are welcome to bring their own age appropriate racquet. Campers may bring their own water, towel and snack (recommended) for periodic rest breaks.

Art in the Park Monday to Friday, June 29 to July 3, 9 to 11 a.m. Ages: 4 to 6 years Fee: $130 Instructor: Memphis College of Art Location: Cameron Brown Park Pavilion, 8628 Farmington Boulevard Kids discover drawing, painting and other engaging art media in this delightful outdoor art adventure. Sustainable Living Camp Monday to Friday, June 15 to 19, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 8 to 12 years Fee: $85 per student, pre-registration required Location: Municipal Park Pavilion, 1900 South Germantown Road Join Bobby Lanier Farm Park staff as they engage children in lessons on sustainable living and activities including organic farming, nutrition, recycling, alternative energy and environmental stewardship. Children should come dressed for outdoor activities and arts and craft projects. The program will take place at Municipal Park as the Farm Park is undergoing construction.

SUMMER CAMPS Parks and Recreation Basketball Camp Session I: Saturday, June 20 (Father’s Day clinic) Ages: Kindergarten to fifth grade (fundamentals), 9 a.m. to noon Fee: $40 per father/child, includes camp T-shirt Dads bring their children to this one day basketball clinic to participate in structured drills together. This camp is for those serious about learning and perfecting the fundamentals of basketball. Participants are be grouped by skill level. Happy Feet Camp Ages: 4 to 6 years This is an experience for young players interested in learning soccer fundamentals in a creative and energetic way. Don’t miss this week of pure soccer fun. Future Legends Camp Ages: 7 to 12 years Players are engaged in activities designed to give the complete camp experience. New skills, proper technique are taught in a fun way that expands player’s minds to new possibilities. Players learn skill concepts and how they relate to build a solid foundation. Players are challenged to learn new moves, positioning and fundamentals of the game.

CREATIVE ART CAMPS Drama Kids “The Mystery of Puppetry” Monday to Friday, June 1 to 5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200 Campers create their own puppet and learn the fundamentals of bringing a puppet to life. Activities include mysteries to solve and maybe even a hidden treasure! Register by May 25.

Beginner Spanish Tuesdays and Wednesdays, June 2 to July 29, 9 to 11 a.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Fee: $130 Learn about Spanish culture and its language in a fun and interactive environment while playing games, singing and dancing. Register by May 15.

Video Game Creation Monday to Friday, June 8 to 12, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 8 to 14 years Fee: $175 Campers learn GameMaker software to create own PC based video game. Using drag and drop programming, campers create an exciting multi-level game they can play with friends. Gamers take their game and the resources on a CD. Register by June 3.


SUMMER CAMPS Intro to Modding in Minecraft™

Minecraft™ Masters

Monday to Thursday, June 8 to 11, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 9 to 12 years Fee: $169, plus $38 software fee Registration Deadline: Wednesday, June 3 Campers are introduced to the skills needed to “mod” in Minecraft™. Learn how to write beginning code using Blockly (a web-based visual programming editor), then apply these changes to the Minecraft™ worlds. Show off new skills, while interacting virtually with other campers. When camp concludes, campers have access to the modding program and the multiplayer server. Register by June 3. Students are required to bring their own LAPTOP to class daily and have a valid Minecraft™ account (with user name and password) loaded on their laptop before class. The software fee allows students access to a private server, on which they can use the multiplayer option in Minecraft™. The private server can host four players at a time.

Monday to Thursday, June 15 to 18, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 7 to 10 years Fee: $169 Take Minecrafting to the next level. Plan and design massive constructions while working as a team to build a world all your own. Minecraft™ Camp is entirely student-led so each class will be completely different as students decide collaboratively how and what to create each time. Instructors facilitate organization and make sure each student’s ideas can be fully realized in the Minecraft™ world. Students will transform an ordinary Minecraft™ landscape...but into what? Sign up and find out. Register by June 10. Note: Students are required to bring their iPod or tablet to class each day and have a valid Minecraft™ account loaded on their tablet before class. Students must be familiar with the basic workings of Minecraft™.

Art Adventures

Monday to Thursday, June 15 to 18, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 3 to 5 years Fee: $169 Beginning paleontologists learn about dinosaurs and the techniques used in extracting fossils in this hands-on class. Young explorers go on their own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces, produce a fossil reconstruction, create a mural, use iPods to learn more about dinosaurs and take home lots of cool dinosaur projects daily. Register by June 10.

Monday to Thursday, June 8 to 11, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 7 to 12 years Fee: $195 Young artists explore many different mediums in this hands-on art camp. Students create and work with different types of paints, oil pastels, mosaics and weaving materials. An emphasis is placed on developing creativity and imagination with a special focus on skill. Students explore pointillism, silhouettes, self-portraits, canvas painting and many other unconventional art projects. Each budding artist presents their original artwork to family and friends at the gallery showing on the last day of camp. Sign up today and let your inner Picasso shine through! Register by June 3.

Deep Sea Diving with LEGO® Robotics Monday to Thursday, June 8 to 11, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 6 to 9 years Fee: $169 Grab a pair of goggles for an underwater adventure like no other! With the LEGO™ We Do Robotics System, youngsters can build and program robotic underwater creations. Explore coral reefs, marine life, engineering, programming and so much more. Young imaginations soar as they explore down deep! Register by June 3.

Drama Kids “Once Upon a Time” Monday to Friday, June 15 to 19, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200 Campers explore their favorite characters from storybooks around the world using the art of masks and movement, craft their own masks and combine them with movement to develop characters from their imagination. A magical time will be had by all. Register by June 8.

D is for Dinosaur Dig

Jedi Training Monday to Thursday, June 15 to 18, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 6 to 8 years Fee: $169 A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, kids had no LEGO® toys. Fortunately, that is not the case this summer! Students blast off into deep space for more fun than you can shake a lightsaber at. Young Jedis start each day training and exercising with their minds and bodies to build starships, make lightsabers, play galactic games and more. May the force be with you. Register by June 10.

Drama Kids “Make Them Laugh” Monday to Friday, June 29 to July 3, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $200 Campers learn and rehearse the art of comedy and clowning by engaging in zany drama activities and perform at the end of camp in their big show. Register by June 22.

Robotic LEGO®: Grab Your Minifig

Monday to Friday, July 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: Kindergarten to fifth grade Fee: $175 Participants explore a wide variety of tools and materials as they paint with watercolors and acrylics, sketch with charcoal and oil pastels, sculpt with clay and make 3D art, make home-made jewelry or key-chains and have free exploration time to work on projects of choice. A free hour of supervised lunch is provided for participants who also enroll in the afternoon Groovy Girls program. Campers provide their own lunch. Register by June 30.

Monday to Thursday, July 13 to 16, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 9 to 12 years Fee: $169 Be amazed at all the cool creations students build and program with LEGO®. Youngsters are challenged to build Ferris wheels, cars, forklifts, cranes, carnival games, elevators and many more programmable contraptions. These robotic creations help reinforce STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning and allow for fun and creativity. Don’t forget to bring your own minifigs daily to ride and test out all the contraptions. Register by July 8.

Groovy Girls Summer Program

LEGO® Master Builders

Monday to Friday, July 6 to 10, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: Grade 1 to 6 grade Fee: $175 Back by popular demand…Groovy Girls is the perfect place for girls to come together, enjoy the summer with friends and have fun being a girl. Campers make their own jewelry, create art, play group games, participate in team challenges, enjoy face painting and glitter tattoos and more. Free time is available daily to work on projects of their choice. The week ends with a Groovy Girl party. Sign up with a friend or come and make many new ones. Free supervision is provided during lunch for those also registered for Creative Kids. Campers provide their own lunch. Register by June 30.

Monday to Thursday, July 13 to 16, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 6 to 9 years Fee: $169 Dive into endless LEGO® possibilities! This one of a kind LEGO® camp exercises the LEGO® Master Builder’s innate gift for building. Tap into their genius with daily LEGO® challenges, guided free-build missions, LEGO® car speedway races and much more. Campers get up and move with interactive team-driven, LEGO® based games and competitions. Campers explore their imagination when engineering minifig zip lines, boats, cars, bridges and other action packed designs. Register by July 8.

Let It Snow Monday to Thursday, July 13 to 16, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 6 to 9 years Fee: $169 Grab a coat and mittens, leave the summer heat behind and join the coolest winter wonderland in town. Icy adventures are combined with daily science experiments, crafts, music and other FROZEN® fun! Be prepared to explore igloos, test your best polar bear roar, duck incoming snowballs and so much more. Campers cook up yummy winter treats to warm their bellies. Never fear, winter can’t end without a day of Christmas cheer. Register by July 8.

Book and Bricks: Literature Meets LEGO® Monday to Thursday, July 13 to 16, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 3 to 5 years Fee: $169 Bring books to life with LEGO® creations. Imaginations soar as campers combine favorite story books with their love for LEGO®. Campers explore themes such as building custom playgrounds, life on a farm and custom car creations. Camp encourages the interest of reading, while facilitating creative building and enhancing fine motor skills. Each daily theme is reinforced with crafts, music, iPads and more. Register by July 8.

Junior Scientist Monday to Friday, July 13 to 17, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: Kindergarten to fifth grade Fee: $175 Junior Scientist camp is all about bringing science to life and showing campers how exciting science exploration and experimentation can be. The hands-on, summer-themed science projects combine indoor and outdoor activities for a week of pure science fun! Campers work on projects and experiments, creating chemical reactions that ooze, bubble, fog or change color; launching projectiles and exploring physical forces; building and testing solar powered machines; studying Earth science and living organisms; tinkering with technology and many more exciting, engaging and fully hands-on activities. Register by June 30.

LEGO® Robotics Rock Monday to Thursday, July 20 to 23, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 6 to 8 years Fee: $169 With the LEGO™ WeDo Robotics System, youngsters build and program their own robotic creations. The unique system teaches students about simple machines, engineering, programming and so much more. Students build new and exciting LEGO® robots daily that move on their own, with simple commands. Learning has never been so much fun. Register by July 15.


SUMMER CAMPS STEMtastic Summer Fun: Level 1

Sensational Sculpture

Monday to Thursday, July 20 to 23, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 6 to 8 years Fee: $169 Step into the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and surround your little Einstein with endless possibilities. The camp opens eyes to brand new ways of perceiving the world around them. Daily STEM challenges cultivate team work and higher level thinking. STEMtastic campers dive into LEGO® Robotics, Power Machines, Circuits and the dynamic world of coding. Campers have a blast exploring STEM concepts with fun handson tools, such as iPads and programmable floor robots. The camp gives a glimpse into the inner workings of machines, electronics and technology used in their everyday lives. Register by July 15.

Monday to Friday, July 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 5 to 8 years Fee: $160 Build, stack, stamp and sculpt your way through this exciting camp that introduces young students to 3-D sculpture and design. Explore different kinds of modern sculpture including local art and modern sculptures like Dale Chihuly and Louise Nevelson. Students work in several different media including wire, soft foam, cardboard, painted surfaces, found objects and recyclables among others.

Safety City

Monday through Friday, June 8 to 12, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Age: 5 and 6 year olds entering kindergarten or first grade Fee: $50 Location: Farmington Elementary School, 2085 Cordes Registration: Applications are available online at GermantownTN.gov, at Germantown Municipal Center or at Germantown Community library Safety City is an education program for five and six year olds entering kindergarten or first grade. The program consists of short classes taught by community experts. Safety topics deal with fire, animals, weather, bicycles, guns, pools, pedestrian crossings, cars and seat belts, boats and homes. Children also travel about Safety City learning to follow the “rules of the road” by riding bikes or walking along its streets and sidewalks. Space is limited. Registration is required and tuition must be paid at registration. The Germantown Public Safety Education Commission sponsors the camp. For more information, contact Lt. Fairy Ballet Camp Monday to Friday, June 15 to 19 or June 22 to 26, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 3 to 6 years Fee: $150 Favorite fairy tales come to life in this magical camp designed around classic tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. The Swan Princess forms the theme for this week of stories and crafts, ballet and creative movement, music and of course fun! Watch as your little one transforms into a beautiful swan on the final day as we perform for family and friends at 11:30 a.m. Participants may only attend one of the two sessions.

See it, Scheme it, Sculpt it Monday to Friday, July 6 to 10, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: 9 to 13 Fee: $160 Mixed media artist Angi Cooper works with students on how to turn their ideas and concepts into finished works of art. Using the modern art of sculptors Marisol and Alexander Calder and also local sculpture seen around Germantown and Memphis as sources of inspiration, campers explore several media and myriad materials including cardboard, wire, paint, recyclables and found objects for use in their sculptures and kinetic installations.

Get Hip Dance Camp Monday to Friday, July 13 to 17, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 7 to 12 Fee: $125 This fresh new dance camp explores two contrasting styles of dance, Ballet and Hip Hop. Dancers take daily technique in ballet and hip hop while learning how the two styles can work together to tell a classical ballet story. No experience is necessary.

Talk to the Hand Puppetry Camp July 20 to 24, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: 7 to 10 Fee: $150 All the world’s a stage and sometimes a box is a cookie monster! In this interactive camp, children turn ordinary items, found objects and recyclables into puppet forms for storytelling and fun. Campers work in various media to create bottle head puppets, sock puppets, box puppets, jumping jacks and simple marionettes. They also work with the instructor and other campers on a skit performance presented on the last day of camp.

ROOSTERS ON THE FARM

FARMERS’ MARKET C’MON OUT TO THE FARM PARK! The Bobby Lanier Farm Park is a 10-acre education and demonstration center for sustainable living through agriculture and stewardship. The park is partially closed for construction and will fully re-open in the late summer 2015 with a new multipurpose facility. The project is made possible by funding from a Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation grant and the City of Germantown. Sustainable Sites Initiative standards are being used in the overall master plan for all park improvements, demonstrating the City’s desire to practice and demonstrate environmental stewardship. Hay Barn Rentals A Rental Facility with Country Charm With the construction of the Hay Barn multipurpose activity center and the beautiful gardens and grounds, the Farm Park will be ready to offer opportunities to create unforgettable private events beginning in the fall of 2015. The simple rustic charm of the site provides a memorable setting for weddings and social gatherings. This unique facility is easy to personalize and impossible not to enjoy. Herbaceous plants, vines and grasses

May 21 Design principles and practices for the sustainable home landscape (*It is recommended that participants attend the classes prior to this, as the information conveyed in this class is built upon previous sessions) Strawberry Plains Audubon Center staff will teach students to build home landscapes and gardens from the canopy down to the roots. With a focus on native plants, along with the vision for a healthier living space, students will start with the tree canopy and work their way down through herbaceous plants. Discussions will highlight individual plants, their site requirements and aesthetic qualities, including their benefits to wildlife. Students may attend the entire series or choose individual classes according to their needs. The series will culminate in field trips to mature native landscapes and to Strawberry Plains Audubon Center, so that students can experience what they can accomplish on their own property with the knowledge they have gained.

The Legends Soccer Club focuses intensely on creating brave creative leaders for life. Carla is a USTA certified referee and umpire for professional and college tennis and served as an official in the US Open in 2014. Preschool Storytime Thursdays, June and July, 11 a.m. Ages: 4 to 5 years With music, stories and fun, this storytime strengthens children’s pre-literacy skills and prepare them for a bright future of reading.

Tommy Terrific’s Magical Superheroes Tuesday, June 2, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic is proud to present “Magical Superheroes” for Summer Reading. The show features a Magic Trunk containing a huge Magician’s Comic Book. Inside the Magician’s Comic Book are magic tricks representing superheroes from Batman to Spiderman and beyond. With the help of the book, kids guide Tommy Terrific through a fun, interactive, magical adventure. Along the way, the kids discover how books can inspire their own imagination and make their favorite superheroes come to life.

Animal Tales’ Animal Adventures Tuesday, June 16, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Animal Adventures feature live, exotic wildlife from all over the world. Enhanced adaptations for sight, sound, touch, strength and movement allow these animals to overcome impossible barriers. Audience members interact with the animals through volunteering, question and answer and crowd participation activities. All are guaranteed an up-close and personal experience.

Mountain Marionettes’ Jazzy Strings Monday, June 22, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years A wonderful mixture of puppetry and the music of the early twentieth century. Each piece of Big Band, Dixieland and Ragtime music seems to have been written just for the puppet that performs it. Katrina flies on her trapeze to George Gershwin’s wonderful “Rhapsody in Blue”; a special Hula Dancer teams up with Spike Jones and his “Hawaiian War Chant,” Mr. Bones falls apart when he hears Scott Joplin’s fabulous Ragtime and many more.

Natural History Educational Company of the Midsouth’s Animal Aviators Monday, July 6, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Join Mr. Bob as he discusses a variety of animals with flying powers. Elliott the Eurasian eagle owl returns and brings some of his super friends, including a Harris’ hawk, yellow-naped green Amazon parrot, straw-colored fruit bat and a parachute gecko.

The Science of Superheroes with Mr. Bond the Science Guy Tuesday, July 7, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years These spectacular experiments are inspired by our favorite comic superheroes. Make Spiderman’s webs, control the electric power of Ironman, sample the marvelous toys of Batman and more!

The Spoon Man Tuesday, July 14, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years The Spoon Man is a published author who offers a hilarious interactive comedy program for all ages.

Kinder Songs Tuesday, July 21, 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 12 years Brian Kinder is a singer/songwriter who, along with his wife, Ms Terri, performs rollicking goodtime concerts for kids. Their original music is fun and invites audience participation.

Superhero Tea Party Saturday, June 27, 2 p.m. Adventurous superheroes from around the city are cordially invited to an afternoon tea party. Intrepid guests enjoy a delightful afternoon of stories, games and refreshments. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required and begins June 20.

Life Skills 101 Wednesday, June 10, 1 or 4:30 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Each day focuses on a different family and consumer science topic such as food and nutrition, basic sewing skills, textile care and more. The GRHGC has more than 15,000 reference materials in its collection. Materials are available for the United States and some European countries. The Tennessee Genealogical Society is also located in the Center. Information about the Society is available at tngs.org. Hours Mondays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Center will be closed May 25 and July 4.
