SPECIAL EVENTS | MAY - AUGUST Equestrian Days at the Farm Park
June 4 to June 7, 9 to 11 a.m. Visit the Farm Park during Germantown Charity Horse Show week for demonstrations on a wide variety of equestrian sports topics. Watch show horses practice and train. Stop by the stable to view the equestrian history exhibit sponsored by the Germantown Museum Committee. Little visitors will be able to check out a stick horse to ride the trails.
Farm Park Farmers’ Market
Thursdays, June 5 to August 29, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Great meals begin here! The Farm Park Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market offering a wide variety of high quality local foods, produce, meats, art and crafts. Special programming, educational workshops and activities - including chef demonstrations, live music, performances and more - are woven into the market experience. Farm Park entry is next to the Cloyes Soccer Fields on Cross Country Drive. Overflow parking is available at Germantown Elementary School. Shuttles are available for those needing assistance.
TWRA Mid-South Junior Fishing Rodeo

Sixth Annual Small Fry Triathlon

Weird and Unusual Animals Predators to Prey

Junior Legends Recreational Soccer Germantown Adult Baseball League

Register through Friday, June 13 Ages: Girls, kindergarten to sixth grade Fee: $135 resident, $172 non-resident, plus $123.57 for those needing a new uniform This program provides a positive, fun and safe environment to learn the fundamental skills of cheerleading. Girls are grouped by grade to cheer for Germantown Football League teams and participate in a cheer-off to conclude the season. The goal is to encourage good sportsmanship, teamwork and self confidence. Residents must provide verification of residency. The Legends Soccer Club focuses intensely on creating brave creative leaders for life. The no guilt, no shame, no blame philosophy gives kids the confidence to get out of their comfort zone and create the big play in any situation. The Legends program provides a comprehensive recreational soccer program for boys and girls ages 6 to 19. Fall practices begin in late August with the season kicking off in September. The Legends philosophy is rooted in individual skill and confidence development. Competitive coaches provide additional skills training on a weekly basis to complement the players training and playing schedule. Campers will build different colored birds and accessories using LEGO® Bricks, along with proprietary model kits. The hands-on, all-new projects combine indoor and outdoor activities for a week full of exciting science exploration and experimentation. Campers create fun and safe chemical reactions, experiment with physical forces, construct engineering projects, tinker with technology as learn about green science and biology.
Creative Art Lab Summer Program Monday to Friday, July 21 to 25, 9 a.m. to noon Ages: Kindergarten to fifth grade Fee: $175 Get ready for a week of complete creative control. Campers enjoy five days of sketching, sculpting, painting and creating 3-D and recycled art. Instructors show examples and techniques for each project, then encourage children to use their own idea and techniques as they experiment with a wide variety of materials to discover their own artistic style. Snack time, games and indoor/outdoor play are a part of each day. A free hour of supervised lunch will be provided for participants who also enroll in the afternoon Groovy Girls program. Campers provide their own lunch.
Groovy Girls Summer Program Monday to Friday, July 21 to 25, 1 to 4 p.m. Ages: Kindergarten through fifth grade Fee: $175 Groovy Girls enjoy fashion design, jewelry making, baking and decorating delicious summer treats, scrapbooking and tie-dye art. Free time is available each day for participants to work on a project of their choice. The week will end with a Groovy Girl party. Safety City
Monday through Friday, June 9 to 13, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Ages: 5 and 6 year olds entering kindergarten or first grade Fee: $45 Location: Germantown Church of Christ, 8723 Poplar Pike Registration: Applications are available online at Germantowntn.gov or at Germantown Municipal Center, Germantown Parks and Recreation Office, Germantown Community library, Germantown Athletic Club and most area preschools. Safety City is an education program for five and six year olds entering kindergarten or first grade. The program consists of short classes taught by community experts. Safety topics deal with fire, animals, weather, bicycles, guns, pools, pedestrian crossings, cars and seat belts, boats and homes. Children also travel about Safety City daily and learn to follow the “rules of the road” by riding bicycles or walking as pedestrians along its streets and sidewalks. At least one adult and several teenage volunteers supervise each group of students. Space is limited. Registration is required and tuition must be paid at the time of registration. The Germantown Public Safety Education Commission sponsors the camp. Germantown Church of Christ hosts the program. FARM PARK C’MON OUT TO THE FARM PARK! The Bobby Lanier Farm Park is a working model of a community based suburban farm park which demonstrates, promotes, educates and advocates for a sustainable, healthy and supportive community. The mission of the Farm Park is accomplished through agriculture and stewardship. The 10 acre working farm features a diversified community garden using organic growing methods. Events include children’s programming, a Farmers’ Market, live music, cooking demonstrations, garden talks, visiting farm animals and garden tours. Community Garden Project at the Farm Park
The community garden is a central feature at the Farm Park. In its third year of operation, the BLFP Community Garden Association is busy preparing for a bountiful summer harvest. The purpose of this communal garden is to allow novice and experienced gardeners alike the opportunity to learn to grow a variety of fresh, natural produce. New member applications will be accepted as space is available. Equestrian Days at the Farm Park
June 4 to 7, 9 to 11 a.m. Visit the Farm Park during the week of the legendary Germantown Charity Horse Show to enjoy a “smorgasbord” of demonstrations on a wide variety of equestrian sports topics. Watch show horses practice and train. Stop by the stable to view the equestrian history exhibit sponsored by the Germantown Museum Committee. Little visitors will be able to check out a stick horse to ride the trails.
Farm Park - Junior Master Gardener Camp
Monday to Friday, July 21 to 25, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12 years Fee: $85 per student, pre-registration required Farm Park Farm Hands and local master gardeners lead young farmers in the Health and Nutrition Series as Junior Master Gardeners. Children should come dressed for farm chores (they will get dirty) and exploration. Gloves and closed toed shoes are required. Lunch will be provided. Youth will work together as a team, sharing the responsibilities of vegetable gardening. Children are required to actively participate and will earn a certificate at the end of the program.

Books by Mail
Germantown Community Library offers Books by Mail, a free service for homebound seniors. The library will mail regular print, large print or audio books to Germantown residents, age 60 or older, who are confined at home. There is no charge for shipping or return of library materials. Germantown Community Library Cards
A library card is required to check out materials from Germantown Community Library. The card is available at no charge to Germantown residents, students and staff of Germantown public and private schools, students and staff of Union University’s Germantown Campus, Germantown business owners and family members, active military personnel and their families, and full-time City of Germantown employees. All others pay $50 for an annual membership card.
The Friends of Germantown Community Library support the library through fundraising and volunteer service. Membership is $10 for the calendar year. Visit the Friends Bookstore to find gently used adult and children’s books, videos, DVDs and recorded books. Prices range from $.50 to $5.

Quick Fic Picnics Mondays, June 9, June 23, July 14 and 28, noon Enjoy the summer and discover new favorite reads with a brown bag picnic in the park. Bring your lunch and relax as we read a story to the group or pass around a book to read aloud together. Drinks will be provided. Bring a folding chair or picnic blanket. Meet in the wooded area to the north of the library building. Each meeting will feature a different genre. The picnic will move indoors in the case of inclement weather.

The Magic of Science with Tommy Terrific Tuesday, June 10, 4:30 p.m. This summer, Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic show has created a new version called “The Magic of Science”. The show will feature a Magic Trunk containing a huge Magician’s Handbook. Inside the Magician’s Handbook are magic tricks representing a unique branch of science, from Chemistry to Physics, from Biology to Astronomy and beyond. With the help of the Magician’s Handbook, the kids guide Tommy Terrific through a magical adventure where these branches of science come alive in wacky and unexpected ways.
Animal Tales’ Animal Science Tuesday, June 17, 4:30 p.m. So many different animal types. The Animal Science program will introduce and explore the topic of animal classifications. Participants will meet and learn about birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, invertebrates and fish. The audience will be asked to interact with the animals through hands-on volunteering, question and answer and crowd participation activities. All are guaranteed an up-close and personal experience.

We will attempt to reverse these misunderstandings with live reptile ambassadors.
