The Demons completed a very s u ccessf ul sea s on, being undefeated i n ten confere nce games, and thereby ,vinning the conference championship for th e first time si nce 1935. In their fir st conference game, fullba ck Bill Sarrell led the Demons to defeat Arvada 25 to 0 In its second game the team barely no sed out Lakewood 20 to 6. The sco re at the end of the first half ,va s O to 0, but the fighting Demons came back to score three times in the thirJ quarter. In the next game Golden upset Littleton 13 to 7 W i th but thre e minu~ to play Golden came from behind to win. Spiele s and Gargan s tarr ed in the game In the next nvo g-ames the whole team played excelJent fo otball to defeat Aurora 32 to O and Wheatridge 20 to 6 Golden started its s econd round by soundly drubbing Arvada 26 to 0, with Olmstead, Kerr and Barb playing fine ball. For their seventh st raight ,vin the Demons defeated Lakewood 31 to 6. In the most exciting game of the season, Golden def~ated Littleton 19 to 14 The ,vhole team played stellar football with Spieles , Howlett, and H emberger most outstanding. Le d by Carl Rund, the Demon s in their ninth straight win defeated Aurora 19 to 7. Coach Brennecke started hi s second team but s oon found it nece sary to · s ub stitute his firs t string, ,vho had difficulty managing the stubborn Auro ra eleven . In their las t gan1e wlich was f ea.tu red by a 90 yard run by Bill Owen s , the team completed a perfect season by defeating Wheatridge 12 to 0.

The team feels much of the credit for thi s s ucce ssful s easo n ,va s due to the intellegent decision s made by Captain Spieles, as ,vell a s hi s ste llar AllConference end play and to the other three All-Conference candidates, Denver Barb, for hi s excellent signal calling, and Bill Sarrell and Jo e Gargan for their invaluable playing. Credit s hould al so be given to Coach B rennecke and his able a ssistant Coach Grant •

The Gold en agg regation j ou rneyed to Aurora only to be turned back by a heartbreaker. The final score wa s Aur ora 25, Golden 22 Denver Barb, and Vic Oppenlander turned in the best game for the Demons. The D emon team after a very peppy talk fron1 Coach Brennecke traveled to Wheatridge and overwhelmed the Farmers. The sco re after the s laughter was over wa s Golden 34, Wheatr idge 17 Vic Oppenlander, Denver Barb, Loyd Churches and Darrell H ess played th e game for Golden. The happy Goldenites now entertained th e Littleton Lion s and fol' a de se rt they gave the Lions a whipping. The score wa s Gold e n 28 , Littleton 24. Churches and Vi c Oppenlander carried the load for Golden. At this time the Aurora team had to forfeit all their league games because of an inelligible player. Thi s little surrender of Auroras placed Golden at the head of the league, two games ahead of their nearest

Vi c Opp e nlander, D nver Barb an d Loyd Churches played the best for fi g hting Demon s. Golden now played Lakewoo d again and repeated their victory with a score of 40 to 29 . This placed Golden in the State Playoffs in Denver Gold e n 's fir st s tate game wa s w i th D ae rtrail at th e Ea s t H ig h School Gym Gold e n ,vas defeat ed 28 to 23 Our n ex t s ta te game was pla yed with Fredrick at the A u ditorium with G olden holdin g th e bag again. The 1938 - 39 B-squad basketball season got under way when official practice started in the first 'week of December. The material looked promising The boys were a little older and more experienced as a whole. There were more juniors and sophomores and fewer :freshmen than in previous years . There ,vere five men back from last years B-squad: Johnny Anderson, Monty Pike, Ralph Bradley, Myron Nelson, and Garvin Burroughs.

The season began ,vith a practice game at Boulder Prep. The team lost a h eart-breaker by a score of 14 to 13 In the second practice game with Engle,vood, Golden ,von 16 ot 11 for their first victory.

Golden started the league season off with a bang by do,vning Aurora 16 to 8 Al Corfman conected for 6 points.

Golden met Wheatridge on the local floor but ,vas defeated 18 to 15. Merton Signor, a freshn1an, s unk long shots to keep Golden ahead. The team came into their o,vn to win a 24 to 15 victory over Littleton . "Red' ' Anderson led scorers with 8 points. Golden defeated the visiting Arvada team' 15 to 9 in a ,vild, hu s tling ball game. Monty Pike starred. The team lost their second heart-breaking game to Englewood by a 17 to 16 score. The game ,vas furiously fought all the ,vay. Golden traveled to Aurora but went do,vn in a defeat in a.close fame 18 to 15. Ralph Bradley starred with his ever-hustling type of ball playing. The looals ,vent to Wheatridge and came home on the long end of the score 23 to 9 Anderson was high point man. Golden showed ,vhat they were made of by coming from behind to win 26 to 26 over Littleton. Anderson was again at the top of the scoring list. Golden and Arvada fought a terrific battle on Arvada's practically unbeaten floor. The game ended in an 11-tie. An overtime period ,vas played and "Red" Anderson sunk the winning basket.

The sec ond week of school the Future Hom emakers Club was organized in Golden H igh School. Each of the three separate classes f-0rmed a unit from ,vhich the officers were the governing consel. Regular meetings were held once a month.

There are two degrees to work for; the Junior H omemakers and the Future Homemakers. To become a junior homemaker, a girl has to complete one home project and earn 100 points in other school activities. To fulfill the requirements for Future Hom emaker one must be registered in seco nd year class, complete three home proje cts and earn 100 points in other school activities.
