A Message From the Mayor‌ As we begin a New Year, let’s resolve to make it our best year yet! We have many exciting projects on the horizon for Jonesboro. Primary among our goals as a City is to maintain a high level of services for our citizens. That means keeping the small town feel, with clean streets and a safe environment, among other things. Our newsletter is entering its 22nd year, and I have been privileged to serve as its Editor 18 of those years. In looking back at old issues, I am reminded of so many good times we have enjoyed in the City and the amazing amount of progress we have made. Please contact me if I can be of service, or if you would like to discuss any issue. I look forward to seeing you in 2018. Joy Day
Broad Street Project Moves Forward A standing-room-only crowd attended the Broad Street Public Meeting at the Firehouse Museum on December 12. Principles from TSW Planners/Architects presented the preliminary ideas for the project. Broad Street is located just behind the Main Street buildings across from the old Courthouse, and behind the Firehouse Museum (FM) on W. Mill Street. Demolition of the buildings behind the FM will begin very shortly. Central to the project is a City Green. Bill Tunnell, TSW, explained phases of the project and answered questions. Following the presentation, citizens were invited to view five different large posters of the project and write ideas on post-it notes to attach to the posters with their comments. Further questions and comments were entertained. .
CITY WELCOMES THREE NEW BUSINESSES Through the process of annexation, the City of Jonesboro welcomes three new businesses to our commercial family. On November 20, 2017, the City Council voted unanimously to annex 38.67 acres just south of the City. Included in that annexation is Low Temp Industries (LTI) located at 9192 Tara Boulevard, Bowen & Sons AAA Services at 9135 South Main Street, and Hilltop Pools at 9133 South Main Street.
