CITY AWARDED CDBG and HOME GRANTS
CITY 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION!
The City of Jonesboro has received PY2022 funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (Community Development Block Grant) in the amount of $120,811.00 for the Central Business District Sidewalk Project and $200,000 for Jonesboro Housing Rehabilitation. The funds were conferred through the Clayton County HUD Programs Division, Manager Linda Boswell announced recently. The grant applications were written and submitted by Mayor Joy B. Day on behalf of the City of Jonesboro. The Sidewalk Project will include the expansion of the sidewalk/seating areas fronting the Main Street businesses. Jonesboro Housing Rehabilitation funds will be available to owner-occupied residents of the City of Jonesboro for home improvement projects. An application/qualifying process for citizens will be announced by the City in August 2022, with work commencing shortly thereafter.

COUNCILMEMBERS TAPPED FOR SERVICE Two City of Jonesboro councilmembers, Pat Sebo-Hand and Donya L. Sartor, have been appointed to local boards of service. Pat Sebo-Hand is now serving on the Governing Board of the Good Shepherd Clinic, Morrow, GA. Good Shepherd’s mission is to provide free primary medical care to uninsured residents of Clayton County with limited financial resources. The clinic is supported by community donations and fundraisers and is manned primarily by medical and administrative volunteers. Good Shepherd provides 4000 initial medical encounters per year as well as ongoing care for chronic medical issues. Donya L. Sartor has been named to the Georgia Municipal Association’s Equity & Inclusion Donya L. Sartor Pat Sebo-Hand Advisory Council. The Council oversees the implementation of the GMA Inclusion Commission to assist city officials in their efforts to promote equity and inclusion within their municipal governments and community, foster the exchange of ideas and information, and proposes legislation to help cities address equity and inclusion issues. LMIG GRANT FUNDS RECEIVED The Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) provides funds to local governments to perform improvements to roadways each year. Grant applications must be submitted and approved through the Georgia Department of Transportation. The funding source for LMIG is a percentage of state motor fuel tax and is based on total centerline road miles in the City. Minimum match by the City is 30%. The City of Jonesboro has received $59,294.49 for FY 2022, based on an application by Mayor Joy B. Day. The project for 2022 is Jonesboro Road, beginning at Highway 138 southward to the North Avenue intersection. Based on the Service Delivery Agreement, Clayton County will perform the paving project. City cost for materials only is estimated to be $212,680.65.
