City Welcomes David Allen as Community Development Director A native of Atlanta, Georgia, David Allen earned a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. He is a Georgia Registered Landscape Architect. Mr. Allen has worked in various landscape architecture and engineering firms in Norfolk, VA, Macon, GA, and Fayetteville, GA. Most recently, he has served as the Planning & Development Director for Pike County, Georgia. In 2011, was appointed to the Three Rivers Regional Commission’s Planning Advisory Council. Mr. Allen comes to us with a wealth of experience in Comprehensive Planning, Ordinance Development, Planning, and Zoning. David Allen lives in Zebulon, Georgia, with his wife and three children.

Jessica Reynolds, Executive Director of the Office of Downtown Development, Main Street Georgia, presented a plaque to the City of Jonesboro at the May 14 Council Meeting designating Jonesboro as a Classic Main Street City. This prestigious program places the City in line for additional assistance and funding in developing a vibrant downtown area. Members of Main Street and the Downtown Development Authority attended the presentation. “Sip and Son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hall, Sr. of Sounds” our City, Seaman Hall recently began a 3-year stint of service with the U.S. Navy, Special Intelligence, in Japan. Robert is a 2017 graduate of Elite Scholars Academy, where he was on the Mock Trial team, Basketball and Tennis teams. He is an active member of the Church of the Harvest International. Best Wishes to Seaman Robert Hall, Jr.; Thank you for your service! Rocket Team Competed in National Contest Students from Creekland Middle School (Cherokee County) qualified to compete in the Team American Rocket Challenge finals. The Creekland team was the only middle school in the state of GA to qualify, and only one of nine middle schools across the nation. They competed on May 12 in Washington, D.C. Pictured at right is Cole Day, (center, in red, holding rocket), grandson of Mayor Joy Day.

Lisa Smith Named Business Woman of the Year Serving as Regional Director of Georgia Power’s Metro South Region is only one of the roles that earned Lisa Smith the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Business Woman of the Year Award. Ms. Smith has chaired the Chamber of Commerce and led them through their strategic planning process. She presently serves as Chair of the 16 Regional Business Coalitions, which assists and unifies 16 metro Atlanta Chambers on public policy development. Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University and an MBA from Kennesaw State University. Congratulations, Lisa Smith!

CRABMEAT CASSEROLE Mrs. Arthur (Lucy) Huie, Jr.

Lucy Cline Huie and her husband Arthur played an important role in the civil rights movement in Clayton County. They helped organize a group to encourage the public school system to remain open in response to integration. Several crosses were burned in their yard. Arthur and Lucy have been generous donors of land and money to numerous causes. Arthur and his sister Ida donated the seven acres of land for the relocation of Stately Oaks. 2 Tbsp. butter, melted Blend in saucepan

1 1/2 Tbsp. flour Add 1 cup milk to make white sauce

1 Tbsp. onion, minced 1/2 tsp. celery salt 1 tsp. grated lemon rind 1 Tbsp. minced parsley 2 Tbsp. Pimento dash of Tabasco sauce Add to white sauce. Remove from heat. 1 egg, well beaten 3/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper Stir hot mixture slowly into beaten egg, then season.

7 oz. crabmeat: Add to mixture, pour into a 1 quart baking dish. 1/2 c. dry breadcrumbs 1 Tbsp. butter, melted Sprinkle buttered crumbs on top of crab mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 375 degrees.
