SAMARIA MCCOY GARDEN GRANT NEWS Congratulations and a big Thank You to Samaria McCoy, Executive Assistant to Police Chief Tommy Henderson. Ms. McCoy applied for and has been awarded two grants for the Jonesboro Community Garden. The first grant is an Orchard Grant through the Giving Grove. Corporate sponsor of the Jonesboro Fruit Orchard is ACCENTURE, an information technology company. Planting of the Fruit Orchard will be in Fall 2022. Provided through the FOODWELL Alliance, the second grant is in the amount of $1500 for general improvements in the City Garden. Ms. McCoy has been instrumental in the planning, infrastructure, and ongoing promotion of the Jonesboro City Garden. Plans are underway to add additional planting beds, a storage building, signage, and other esthetic and functional features to the Garden, which is located on North Avenue. Participants are also members of the Jonesboro Garden Club.(See our Garden Facebook Page). We invite all residents to join us for gardening fun and learning. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that replaces the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB Program) to help low-income households pay for internet service and connected devices. If your household is eligible, you can receive: Up to a $30/month discount on your internet service Up to a $75/month discount if your household is on qualifying tribal lands A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50) Help spread the word in your community. Interested households should check if they qualify and then apply for the benefit at https://acpbenefit.org/.
Rodney Virgil Joins City Staff
As of January 24, 2022, Rodney Virgil has joined the City as Information Technology Services Specialist. Mr. Virgil brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our technology needs in the City. Rodney is a graduate of West Georgia Technical College.
