Enjoy “50 Reasons to get out of bed in the morning”, a fun little book created by the staff of Silver Lake College in the 1980’s. Try a new recipe. Try collecting new recipes from friends, magazines, newspapers, cookbooks...or check the library. One thing is certain—you cant stay in bed and cook (at best, you could probably warm a waffle with your electric blanket); you’ll have to get out and shop for the ingredients. How are you at demonstrating? Show others how to make a particular recipe. Invite some of your adventurous friends over to taste the end result. This could lead to the formation of a group of Aarpies who want to share recipes (or tummy disorder remedies...what you share depends upon the degree of skill of the cook—what’s important is that you’re sharing). What fun...what delicious fun this can be! Check out the recipes each month in the News Notes on page 22!
Read a new book/newspaper/ magazine. Libraries are your best source for reading materials, and they are free! That’s no surprise to you, I’m sure, but have you explored the wonderland that a well-stocked library really is? Just going to the library, bookstore, or newsstand is good exercise for your legs, but just imagine what coming from one of these with an armload of treasure can do to stimulate your mind. Try trading different forms of literature or books on a variety of topics—with other Aarpies. Maybe you could form a discussion group and share each other’s ideas, information, experiences...and memories. The interaction of the group can educate, entertain, and excite—you may begin to wonder if any experience which gives you that much pleasure just might be slightly illegal. It’s not!

The Senior Center’s Tie Quilters are looking for some more enthusiastic crafters to join them in putting together quilts for people. The quilters typically meet on Monday mornings to tie quilts that have been brought in by community members. This service not only provides a benefit to community, but also helps to raise funds for the Senior Center. If you are interested in joining the quilters, or would like to observe, please stop in on Monday mornings after 9am. No experience is necessary, just the desire to have fun and enrich the lives of others! Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn new skills and make new friends while helping the community!

The Lakeshore Red Hatters meet every 2nd Friday of the month at the Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. All ladies are welcome. The Christmas party was fun and the food delicious. I hope every one enjoyed it. I want to apologize for not mentioning the November program in last months Chit Chat Rogene Moore and Virginia Temme showed us how the southern ladies got dressed during the Civil War, when they went to a ball. It was very educational and interesting. The December birthdays were Dorothy Baker, Shirley Oswald and Diane Cisler. The hostesses for January are Joni Ericson, Berdeva Fischer and Ann Luckow. The Program is Peters Pantry and everyone is asked to bring an item of non perishable food. A new member, Lily Groechel, is weaving red glitter scarves. There is an example in the gift shop. Lily will have one at the January tea. Lily will take orders for them, if you want them at the January Tea. All proceeds go to the Senior Center. At the January tea, Audrey will be collecting dues. They are $5. If you can’t come to the January tea, call Audrey at 973-9516, if you still want to be a member. This way we will know how many members we have. Thank you. We will also be discussing the reimbursement of $7 to the hostesses. Some want the money and others don’t.
Funny BoneTickler A Red Hat lady was talking to her best friend, another Red Hat Lady, “I don’t want to brag or anything, but I can still fit into the earrings I wore on my wedding day.” Have a great Red Hat Day,
