CONSTRUCTION AT THE DOBSON RANCH LIBRARY

Celebrate Star Wars Day with crafty programs, perfect for fans of a galaxy far, far away! Check out our collection of Star Wars series, novels, comics, magazines, DVDs, too!

Renovations are underway at the Dobson Ranch Library.

Construction will expand the library's footprint by 1600 square feet, and will add a THINKspot makerspace for community innovation and networking.

This is the biggest renovation the Dobson Ranch Library has undergone since it was built in 1987. Funding for the renovation is from the Parks and Culture Bonds issue approved by Mesa voters in 2018.

Library events, hours, and construction related closure information can be found on our website, mesalibrary.org.

Additionally, the façade of the building will be updated. The improved entry will offer greater visibility and convenience for library users.

We invite you and your family to explore "Oceans of Possibilities" with the 2022 Summer Reading Program! It’s easy to participate and the adventures are endless.

Read at least 20 minutes every day this summer and simply keep track of your minutes with a printed or online book log until you reach 1,000 points. We’ll be hosting fun and educational events and giving away prizes along the way, including food coupons, Arizona State Parks passes, Phoenix Mercury tickets, and more!

ARIZONA HUMANITIES PRESENTS: CONSIDERING CLIMATE EQUITY: STORIES OF EXTREME HEAT IN OUR CITIES ☑ Sat | May 7 | 11:00am – 12:00pm | RM Dr. Melissa Guardaro will speak about urban heat in Arizona, the unequal effects on different communities, and potential solutions. She is an Assistant Research Professor in the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on adaptability, equity, vulnerability, and urban policy to mitigate and adapt to extreme heat and urban heat island effects.

ARIZONA HUMANITIES PRESENTS: FROM “CHIEF” TO CODE TALKER: FOUR PROFILES OF THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS Mon | May 23 | 6:00pm – 7:30pm | MN During WWII a group of young Navajo men enlisted in the Marines without knowing that they would be called on to develop a secret code against the Japanese military. This select group of Code Talkers devised a Navajo language code that was accurate, quick, and saved many American lives. This program profiles four Code Talkers who reflect on their lives growing up on the Navajo Nation homeland before and after the war, including presenter Laura Tohe's father.

THE ASTONISHING, ASTOUNDING, AMAZING SONORAN DESERT Sat | May 14 | 2:00pm – 3:30pm | RM This is an entertaining introduction to the Sonoran Desert. Full-page color illustrations capture the colors of the desert, its plants and wildlife. The book also discusses the threats to the Sonoran Desert and what citizens can do about them. ARIZONA HUMANITIES PRESENTS: FROM “CHIEF” TO CODE TALKER: FOUR PROFILES OF THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS Mon | May 23 | 6:00pm – 7:30pm | MN During WWII a group of young Navajo men enlisted in the Marines without knowing that they would be called on to develop a secret code against the Japanese military. This select group of Code Talkers devised a Navajo language code that was accurate, quick, and saved many American lives. This program profiles four Code Talkers who reflect on their lives growing up on the Navajo Nation homeland before and after the war, including presenter Laura Tohe's father.

Construction will expand the library's footprint by 1600 square feet, and will add a THINKspot makerspace for community innovation and networking.

This is the biggest renovation the Dobson Ranch Library has undergone since it was built in 1987. Funding for the renovation is from the Parks and Culture Bonds issue approved by Mesa voters in 2018.

Library events, hours, and construction related closure information can be found on our website, mesalibrary.org.

Additionally, the façade of the building will be updated. The improved entry will offer greater visibility and convenience for library users.
