Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 1–3 and 8–10 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), East Entrance Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy that has charmed audiences across the country with its fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a vibrant musical score by William Finn. An eclectic group of six adolescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially madeup) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, poutinducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get juice boxes. A riotous ride complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced crowd pleasing comedy and an instant favorite.

Through May 2019 This great nine-month dance program encourages students to practice and improve throughout the school year and culminates with the year-end dance recital. Class participation is crucial in preparing for the recital, so we ask that children commit to attending ALL scheduled classes through May 2019. New students will be accepted into the program at any time; however, students who joined after February 2019 will not be eligible to participate in the recital held June 2019. Classes will be held at our new Krekel Civic Center, 305 Civic Park Drive, O’Fallon 63366. Regular participation in Civic Dance Studio is the best way to help students build a progressive foundation for dance as they learn and practice dance steps and master the skills they need.

Youth Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do This six-week Martial Arts program will focus on the traditional Korean form of Tae Kwon Do known as Chung Do Kwan. This style is based on explosive movements, devastating power and self-discipline. All students begin training at the “no belt” level. After learning the eight basics and the first form they will be invited to test for the white belt. Students will progress through a series of techniques and belts at their own pace and will not necessarily test each session. Because each student progresses at his or her own pace, testing will be at the discretion of the instructor. Children who would like to progress at a faster pace may register for more than one class.

If you are interested in watching one of the classes to see if it is something your child would be interested in, you may do so the last week of the session. Tyke Kwon Do • Ages 3–5 341201-A 341201-C 341201-B 341201-D

ou may be familiar with the National Register of Historic Places, but did you know that O’Fallon has its own Historic Register? One of the principal functions of the O’Fallon Historic Preservation Commission is to identify and encourage the preservation of historical properties within the City. To support this goal, the Commission manages the O’Fallon Historic Register Program to recognize both commercial and residential properties throughout the City. This program honors historically significant City properties whose owners have respected the character of the original construction, helping to preserve O’Fallon’s heritage.

Y

Properties already placed on the O’Fallon Historic Register include The Krekel House, which is now home to Cleo’s Bridal; Zumwalt’s Fort and the Heald Home, both located in Zumwalt Park; the Thornhill-Obrecht House; and the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood Chapel and Convent. Several criteria are used in considering a nomination for the O’Fallon Historic Register. These include the property’s character, interest, or value relating to the development, heritage, or culture of O’Fallon. A nominated property’s location as a site of a significant historical event or the existence of unique architectural characteristics would also be considered. A property doesn’t have to be famous to be nominated for the Register. Many of O’Fallon’s oldest homes and businesses are eligible to be listed.

plaques Register c ri to is H ght: o Bridal e from ri erties; Cle p ro p s Clockwis e s the t Preciou sented to f the Mos o s r’ . were pre te rk a is ); S walt P el House in Ft. Zum e m o (i.e. Krek H ald 1930; He Blood, c.

Properties that are approved for addition to the O’Fallon Historic Register receive a bronze plaque noting placement on the Register. The Register is an honorary designation that in no way limits what the property owner can or cannot do to their property. O’Fallon Historic Register property owners wanting to improve or alter their property are not subject to a separate, additional review as an historic entity, but are treated just the same as other properties throughout the City in making changes and improvements. Owners of designated properties can access support from the Historic Preservation Commission to provide non-monetary assistance in the form of advice and review of plans for exterior alterations or repairs. Compliance with the advice of the Commission is strictly voluntary. If you would like your home or property to be considered for the Register, nominations may be made to the O’Fallon Historic Preservation Commission by a member of the Commission or the owner of record of the property by preparing and submitting a nomination form to the Historic Preservation Commission. Members of the Commission are happy to assist any interested property owner with this process. For more details contact John Griesenauer at jgriesenauer@ofallon. mo.us or 636-379-5501.

Young players love our exciting, eight-game leagues which will focus on soccer skills, rules and fun! Leagues fill quickly, so register early! Games are played at Sports Park on Saturdays between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Parents, we need volunteer coaches! Parent coaches are eligible to have one child’s registration fee reduced if slots are available. If you coach, you can register your child for only $25. Starting January 25, an additional $12 late fee will be charged for registration, which ends Thursday, February 7, or whenever the program fills. Eligibility is based on a child’s age as of August 1, 2018. The Coaches’ Meeting will be held March 2 at 8 a.m. for Pee Wee, 4/5, and 6U coaches, and at 9:30 a.m. for all other leagues. Sorry, we do not accept team/ player requests from parents, only roster requests from coaches. Please note that roster requests do not register a child for the program and it does not guarantee a child a spot in the program. Practices are not a part of the fee you pay, so refunds or team changes will not be made to accommodate practice schedules. Leagues for 10 & 11 and 14U may play 8v8 depending on registration. Leagues 7U and older will not be awarded participation medals.

Join us for this unique hard hat tour of the former Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) in Jefferson City, Missouri. Built in 1836 and shuttered in 2004, the “Big House” was hailed in 1893 as one of America’s most efficient prisons for feeding inmates on 11 cents a day, and condemned in 1967 as “the bloodiest 47 acres in America.” The tour includes prison history, famous inmates and their cells and even a glimpse of the gas chambers. Next, we’ll sit down to lunch at a local restaurant followed by ice cream at Central Dairy. After lunch and ice cream we’ll tour Missouri’s State Capitol. The trip’s cost includes transportation, the prison tour, an escort, lunch and gratuities. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes; no sandals, please. The registration deadline is March 22, 2019. 330813-A Th

Participants will move to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely. Please keep in mind that children learn at different paces, and it is common to repeat a class.

The program is composed of 11 course levels:

Weekday classes at the Renaud Center meet twice weekly for four weeks and last 35 minutes. Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks.

Learn to Swim ’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water.

Aqua Learning: Preschool: Preschool Plus: Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4: Level 5: Level 6: Level:

Shrimp I and II, Pollywog Turtle Seahorse Explorer Submarine Clipper Sailor Adventurer Barracuda Adult

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples. Pollywog: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes. Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor. Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor. Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor.

Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

Weekday classes at Alligator’s Creek meet four times a week for two weeks. Saturday morning sessions meet for 35 minutes once a week for eight weeks.

The Aqua Learning levels help children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepare them to learn how to swim. The classes are divided into three sections: Shrimp I, Shrimp II and Pollywog. Please note: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.

Aqua Learning: Shrimp I • Ages 6 – 18 months Parent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace. Min/Max: 3/8
