This great nine-month dance program encourages students to practice and improve throughout the school year and culminates with the year-end dance recital. Class participation is crucial in preparing for the recital, so we ask that children commit to attending all scheduled classes from September 2019 through May 2020. New students will be accepted into the program at any time. Classes are held at the Krekel Civic Center, 305 Civic Park Drive, O’Fallon 63366. Regular participation in Civic Dance Studio is the best way to help students build a progressive foundation for dance as they learn and practice dance steps and master the skills they need.

Class Schedule

Martial Arts

Tumbling

Tae Kwon Do

Sessions are six weeks unless otherwise stated.

This six-week Martial Arts program will focus on the traditional Korean form of Tae Kwon Do known as Chung Do Kwan. This style is based on explosive movements, devastating power and self-discipline. All students begin training at the “no belt” level. After learning the eight basics and the first form they will be invited to test for the white belt. Students will progress through a series of techniques and belts at their own pace and will not necessarily test each session. Because each student progresses at his or her own pace, testing will be at the discretion of the instructor. Children who would like to progress at a faster pace may register for more than one class. Min/Max: 7/20

You’ll get a passport and your first stamp to start your journey. You will then embark on an imaginary flight to your destination, where you will explore the land, wildlife and habitat, customs and cultural traditions. You will produce a craft project and send postcards home. Both instructors have travelled to these countries and bring their unique experiences into the classroom. Each class is 3 hours long. Registration ends one week prior to each class. Minimum class size is ten.

Open Sunday Studio: Photography These monitored uninstructed, open studio sessions are a great way to explore your journey of ‘painting with light’ and creating art through your lens. Beginners have the chance to photograph, pose and work with a live model, manipulate the lighting and make decisions on what to capture on ‘film’. Seasoned photographers can use the time to work on a specific problem area, or just come to keep their camera and lighting skills fresh. Bring your own camera or camera phone. O’Fallon receives Missouri Arts Council funding for cultural arts programs O’Fallon received $12,500 in operating support from the Missouri Arts Council for the 2020 fiscal year, which runs July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020. O’Fallon is one of approximately 30 arts agencies throughout the state who were awarded these grants. The funds will help cover the costs of exhibits, special programming, marketing and theater productions. A portion of this year’s grant money also went toward the outdoor Theatre in the Park event that took place on July 18, where Alan Ox performed There’s An Alien in My Soup at the O’Day Amphitheater in the new O’Day Park.

ust because summer is over doesn’t mean you have to stop participating in swim lessons. Participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged one to four years. (Source: Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine 2009) Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States. (Source: CDC, 2016) Swimming is just like reading – you have to keep practicing it in order to get better! We offer group lessons weekdays and Saturdays in the morning and evening, along with private and semi-private lessons.

Learn to Swim O’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water. The program is composed of 11 course levels:

Aqua Learning: Preschool: Preschool Plus: Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4: Level 5: Level 6: Level:

Shrimp I and II, Pollywog Turtle Seahorse Explorer Submarine Clipper Sailor Adventurer Barracuda Adult

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples. Pollywog: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes. Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor. Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor. Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor.

Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

30

www.ofallon.mo.us/parks&rec 636-474-2REC (2732)

The Aqua Learning levels help children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepare them to learn how to swim. The classes are divided into three sections: Shrimp I, Shrimp II and Pollywog. Please note: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.

Aqua Learning: Shrimp I • Ages 6–18 months Parent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace. Min/Max: 3/8

Each session consists of five 60-minute classes with a Vetta West Tennis Teaching Pro. Classes meet on Sundays or Wednesdays for five weeks. Our programming is designed in coordination with the United States Tennis Association Youth Player Progression. This system promotes play with red, orange, green and yellow compression balls (R.O.G.Y), and is structured in a way that will allow young players to remain at the appropriate level and give players the opportunity to develop both physically and technically.

Red • Ages 8 and under This class revolves entirely around having FUN, developing hand/eye coordination, and introducing basic stroke fundamentals. Proper rallying and serving aspects are explored while students are exposed to the basic rules of the game. Min/ Max: 6/12

Renaud Futsal League

• CORE Ball Skills will work on dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting.

We are happy to announce that we will be bringing our Youth Soccer League indoors with the Renaud Futsal League!

• CORE Goalkeepers will work on ball handling, diving, shot stopping and distribution.

Futsal is a variant of soccer and played on a basketball court using a smaller, low-bouncing ball. Games are played using a 5v5 small-sided format during two 20-minute halves.

These programs are designed to supplement the O’Fallon Youth Soccer League as well as introduce each child to the skills needed for any and all levels of play. These programs will be broken into different age specific groups and games as well as basic to advanced skill training.
