Learn to Swim O

’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water. The program is composed of 11 course levels:

Aqua Learning: Level: Preschool: Preschool Plus: Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4: Level 5: Level 6: Level:

Shrimp I and II Pollywog Turtle Seahorse Explorer Submarine Clipper Sailor Adventurer Barracuda Adult

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples. Pollywog: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes. Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor. Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor. Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor. Participants will move to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely. Please keep in mind that children learn at different paces and it’s common to repeat a class. Weekday classes at the RSC meet twice weekly for four weeks and last 35 minutes. Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks. Weekday classes at Alligator’s Creek meet four times a week for two weeks. Saturday morning sessions meet for 35 minutes once a week for eight weeks.

Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim Program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

Aqua Learning This program helps children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepares them to learn how to swim. The class is divided into two sections: Shrimp I and Shrimp II. NOTE: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.

Shrimp I • Ages 6 – 18 months Parent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace.

Prior to the Black Belt exam students will progress through a series of techniques and belts. Testing will occur the ninth week of the session. Want to play volleyball but don’t have a team? This eight-game league is for you! Players will be randomly assigned and all ages will play together. The teams in this league will be led by parent coaches. We will provide a volleyball instructor to help lead ONE practice. Depending on registration, you may end up playing the same team multiple times or having double headers each week. Teams will receive three one-hour practices at no charge. Team shirts will be provided for all teams. Players must wear non-marking gym shoes. Parents, we need coaches! If you volunteer to coach one of our teams of individuals, you will receive a discount on your registration fee. Contact Alyssa for more details at agroeteke@ ofallon.mo.us. Registration closes two weeks prior to the start of the league or when it fills, whichever comes first.

Pilates uses a series of exercises that are performed in a specific order to build strength, flexibility and control while focusing on precision, concentration and breathing. Pilates is very efficient, with each exercise using several muscle groups simultaneously, providing both strength and stretch components. All Pilates exercises are initiated from the powerhouse, which is made up of the abdominal muscles, the lower back, the inner thighs and the buttocks. As the powerhouse becomes stronger and more stable, posture improves and the limbs move with greater ease. 40560 40561

Soccer Conditioning

Ask the Doctor

Are you ready to take your game to the next level? FMScertified personal trainer and former college soccer player Brad Gieske has developed an off-season program that can give you more power, the quickest feet in the league, and make you agile enough to go around even the best defenders. This six-week program combines plyometrics and conditioning work to maximize your performance potential. Tips on mental conditioning will be used to further enhance player development. Whether you’re a new player looking to improve your game or an experienced player looking to take your game to the next level, this program can help you get faster, stronger, more agile, more coordinated, more confident and more determined to succeed.

On the first Wednesday of every month from 6–7 p.m., meet Dr. Scott Grogan, a board-certified Chiropractic Physician, by the desk in the fitness center for answers to your health and fitness-related questions. Dr. Grogan completed his full body certification in Active Release Technique in 2011, giving him a unique approach to the treatment of patients by addressing not only the joints but the surrounding soft-tissue as well. Dr. Grogan utilizes the “joint-by-joint” approach to patient care, which emphasizes the impact that the kinetic chain (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders etc.) can have on the entire body. Through functional analysis Dr. Grogan will locate the true dysfunction and source of the problem to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Through mobilization of the joints and by placing a heavy emphasis on soft-tissue treatment and rehabilitation, his goal is to provide fast, effective care and empower patients to take control of their own health.

Youth Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do This 10-week Martial Arts program will focus on the traditional Korean form of Tae Kwon Do known as Chung Do Kwan. This style is based on explosive movements, devastating power and self-discipline. All students begin training at the “no belt” level. After learning the eight basics and the first form they will be invited to test for the white belt. Prior to the black belt exam students will progress through a series of techniques and belts. Testing will occur the ninth week of the session. Because each student progresses at his or her own pace, testing will be at the discretion of the instructor.

O’FallonTheatreWorks presents Twelve Angry Jurors March 21–23 and 28–30 On the stage at the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall) Curtain time is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays Concessions will be available. The Box Office opens one hour before each show. As the drama opens, a 19-year-old has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. “He doesn’t stand a chance,” mutters the guard, as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts. “This is a remarkable thing about democracy,” says the foreign-born juror, “that we are notified by mail to come down to this place and decide on the guilt or innocence of a man, of a man we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing.” But personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are reexamined and the murder re-enacted. Tempers grow short, arguments become heated, and the jurors become 12 angry men and women. As the jurors reach their final verdict, the tense scenes will electrify the audience and keep patrons on the edges of their seats.
