Transforming America: The G.I. Bill of Rights Joan Musbach The World War II draft brought Americans from all walks of life together and into the same foxhole for a common shared experience and purpose. Then the G.I. Bill made it possible for the survivors to get an education and accomplish good things for themselves, their families and their country. After World War II the American Dream was transformed, unimagined levels of prosperity were reached and foundations were laid for the lifestyle and life expectations that we have today. While it is tempting to focus primarily on foreign policy in the Cold War era, the transformative government actions were matters of social and economic policy.

Meet Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael Force and Assistant Chief Chris Digiuseppi, authors of The Light Bringer, a top 10 local best seller for 2011 that was nominated for the Distinguished Literary Achievement Award through the Missouri Humanities Council. The Light Bringer is currently under development as a TV series. The authors followed their success with a second book in the trilogy, The Fallen. Published by HCI Books, The Fallen is a supernatural thriller with a police procedure mix. Centering on four ritualistic murders and some unexplainable natural disasters, readers are led to further explore the series’ theme: Why do bad things happen to good people?

On the first Wednesday of every month from 6–7 p.m., meet Dr. Scott Grogan, a board-certified Chiropractic Physician, by the desk in the fitness center for answers to your health and fitness-related questions. Dr. Grogan graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2011, and then earned a Masters of Sports Science and Rehabilitation from Logan in 2012. Dr. Grogan also completed his full body certification in Active Release Technique in 2011, giving him a unique approach to the treatment of patients by addressing not only the joints but the surrounding soft-tissue as well. Dr. Grogan utilizes the “joint-by-joint” approach to patient care, which emphasizes the impact that the kinetic chain (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders etc.) can have on the entire body. Through functional analysis Dr. Grogan will locate the true dysfunction and source of the problem to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Through mobilization of the joints and by placing a heavy emphasis on soft-tissue treatment and rehabilitation, his goal is to provide fast, effective care and empower patients to take control of their own health. Dr. Grogan has a passion for athletics. He is very involved with the Crossfit community, and he has both competed with and treated competition teams. He’s also served as the team physician for community college athletics, American Legion baseball, and for the Ballwin Race Series.

Congratulations, you’ve found it! Geocaching is a worldwide game dedicated to Global Positioning System (GPS) users. The game involves a GPS user hiding “treasure” and publishing the exact coordinates so other GPS users can join the “treasure hunt”. The only rules are: If you take something from the geocache, you must leave something in its place and you must log your visit on the log sheet. GPS coordinates can be found at www.geocaching.com. On this special International Geocaching Day, collect the special clue at each site in O'Fallon's parks, solve the puzzle and exchange for a prize at the Renaud Spirit Center on August 18 or 19 during normal business hours. No registration is necessary for this free event. For more information, please call 636-379-5575.

Learn to Swim O
’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water. The program is composed of 11 course levels:
Aqua Learning: Level: Preschool: Preschool Plus: Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4: Level 5: Level 6: Level:
Shrimp I and II Pollywog Turtle Seahorse Explorer Submarine Clipper Sailor Adventurer Barracuda Adult
Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples. Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor. Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor. Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor. Pollywog: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes. Participants will move to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely. Please keep in mind that children learn at different paces and it’s common to repeat a class. Weekday classes at the RSC meet twice weekly for four weeks and last 35 minutes. The session starting Monday, August 12, will meet daily on August 12–15 and 19–20, and the cost is pro-rated.
Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks. The Saturday, July 13 session will only meet for six weeks and the cost is pro-rated. Classes at Alligator’s Creek meet four times a week for two weeks. Sessions last for 35 minutes.
Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim Program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.
Aqua Learning This program helps children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepares them to learn how to swim. The class is divided into two sections: Shrimp I and Shrimp II. NOTE: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.
Shrimp I • Ages 6 – 18 months Parent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace.
