Aqua Aerobics

Aqua Fit Beginner

Swimming skills are not required for this four-week beginner class, which offers a great way to get started in our water exercise program. Water aerobics is a low-impact exercise that strengthens muscles and joints and provides a great cardiovascular workout in the pool. Min/Max: 8/30

Aqua Power Intermediate

Are you are looking for an exercise that’s easy on your joints? Join our four-week water aerobics class for an exhilarating workout with high, medium and low-intensity exercises. No swimming is required. Our workout focuses on cardiovascular fitness and muscle conditioning with water dumbbells, noodles and other equipment. Min/Max: 8/30

Therapeutic Aqua Aerobics

Here’s a great way to start your mornings if you have arthritis or a bone and joint condition—treat your bones to warm water and relieve aches and pains. No swimming skills are required in this four-week class! Aquatic workouts relieve muscles of weight-bearing stress as they strengthen muscles and joints. Our specialized instruction will help you improve movement and flexibility. Min/Max: 8/30

Water Walking

Swimming is not required! Walk in the lazy river (you’ll find it’s really not so lazy!) to improve your cardiovascular system, balance and flexibility. We offer 3 different types of walking classes: Walking with Jets, Running with Jets, and Walking without Jets. Walking with Jets and Walking without Jets is offered twice a week and Running with Jets is offered once a week. Min/Max: 8/30

Cardio, Core and Toning

Are you are looking for a workout in the water? Join our fourweek water aerobics class for an exhilarating workout with and mix of high and medium intensity exercises. No swimming is required. Our workout focuses on cardiovascular fitness, the core and toning with water dumbbells, noodles and other equipment. Min/Max: 8/30

Aqua Rush: Water Travel and Pilates

There is nothing better than a good cool down with some stretching after a long and intense workout. Join our four-week water aerobics class working on all that and more. Min/Max: 8/30

Aqua Aerobics Power Card

Having trouble finding an aqua aerobics class to fit your schedule? Create your own schedule with an aqua aerobics power card good for any 12 aqua aerobics classes and valid for three months from the purchase date. Please be aware that classes may be cancelled due to low registration; enrollment is made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Swim Stroke Analysis Sessions (Alligator’s Creek) • Ages 6-12

Need some extra help on specific strokes? Sign up for our Swim Stroke Analysis Sessions! Offered sessions include freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and flip turns. Classes meet once for 45 minutes.

Adult Swim Stroke Analysis Sessions (Alligator’s Creek) • Ages 18+

Training for serious swimmers and triathletes looking to perfect their stroke and shave time. These classes will take an in-depth look into the swimmers’ form and provide training to enhance performance.

Gateway Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) Ages 6 months – 6 years

Infant Swimming Resource is the safest and most effective provider of Survival Swimming Lessons worldwide, teaching children ages 6 months – 6 years old to use ISR self-rescue skills and giving them the competence and confidence, they need to survive in the water. Renaud Center Mileage Swim Club

Earn prizes for the miles that you swim from January 1st through December 31st! You can start during any part of the year and keep track of your mileage in the Mileage Swim Club Binder on the pool deck. We’ll post the mileage weekly to share everyone’s progress. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 individuals with the most miles at the beginning of the new year and the swimmer with the most miles at the end of the year will win a grand prize!

Scout Troop Aquatics Badges $13 per Scout

If your scout troop would like to fulfill aquatic merit badge requirements, we can help you meet your goals with our twohour program of water safety and rescue skills. Aquatic Camp (Alligator’s Creek) • Ages 9–14

Does your child love the pool? Join our Aquatic Academy Camp! We will be teaching your child some basic life support, how to work as a team, fun games and more. This will be a one week camp at Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center for children between the ages of 9 to 14 years old.* Registration must be completed in person. *All participants must be able to swim one length of the pool without stopping to grab onto the lane line or touch the bottom of the pool. A swim test will be conducted on the first day of camp.

Learn to Swim with O’Fallon Swim Academy

O’Fallon’s Swim Academy program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water.

The program is composed of 12 course levels and each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples.

Preschool– Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor.

Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor.

Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor.

Weekday classes at the Renaud Center meet twice a week for

four weeks and last 35 minutes. Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks.

Weekday classes at Alligator’s Creek meet four times a week

for two weeks. Saturday morning sessions meet for 35 minutes once a week for eight weeks.

Learn TO SWIM with

Water AcclImation Lessons

Ages 6 mos — 3 years

Gets kids comfortable in and around the water; prepares them to learn to swim

Aqua Learning: Shrimp • Ages 6 – 18 months

Parent or guardian participation in the water with the child is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely acclimate the child into the water.

Aqua Learning: Starfish • Ages 18 – 36 months

Preschoolers will enjoy learning basics of water safety and participating in a swim class. Parent or guardian participation in the water with the child is required. Parents will learn how to safely guide their child and help them advance at their own pace. The class is for children who are not yet ready to be away from mom or dad but do enjoy the water. Min/Max: 3/8

Aqua Learning: Pufferfish • Ages 2–3

This transitional class is for children who have passed Starfish but who are not yet ready to be away from mom or dad or are still adjusting to a group environment in the water. The Pufferfish class is designed to help swimmers gain confidence and independence as they master introductory skills and learn safe practices. Parents or guardians will participate in the water during the first four classes. Min/Max: 3/8

Prerequisites: At least 2 years old or completion of Starfish

Swimmers who successfully complete Pufferfish can: Swim underwater with assistance • Following directions • Swim independently of parent/guardian • Bob underwater with assistance • Jump in without assistance

Intermediate Lessons

Ages 3 — 10 years

Progressive classes go from swimming with support to swimming independently; Student/teacher ratio = 6:1

Preschool: Turtle • Ages 3–4

This independent class is designed for children who have never had swimming lessons or are just starting to learn the fundamentals of swimming. Activities may seem repetitive, but students will gain confidence as they master basic introductory swimming and water safety skills. Min/Max: 3/6

Prerequisites: Must be at least 3 years old (some exceptions may apply) or completed the Pufferfish class • Must be able to follow instructions

Swimmers will successfully complete the Turtle level when they

can: Jump in without assistance • Swim underwater comfortably without assistance • Self-propel five feet to the instructor • Bob underwater without assistance • Know safety practices • Retrieve an object from chest-deep water with assistance

Preschool Plus: Seahorse • Ages 3–5

This advanced class continues to build your child’s independence and confidence in the water to prepare them for Level 1: Jellyfish and teach water safety and precautions. Actives may seem repetitive, but students will master the introductory skills and safe practices. Min/Max: 3/6

Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Turtle class • Swim underwater comfortably without assistance • Self-propel 5 feet to the instructor • Bob underwater without assistance • Follow directions and has an understanding of water safety • Retrieve an object from chest-deep water with assistance

Swimmers who successfully complete the Seahorse can: Float independently on their front and back • Self-propel 10 feet to the instructor • Retrieve an object in chest-deep water without assistance • Jump in without assistance • Blow bubbles out of their nose

To ensure success in O’Fallon’s Swim Academy, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed, moving to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely, not quickly. Children learn at different paces and it is common to repeat a class.

Level One: Jellyfish • Ages 4+

Builds on basic swimming skills, reinforces independent swimming and introduces the freestyle and backstroke. Min/Max: 3/6

Prerequisites: Age 4 or successfully completed Seahorse

Swimmers will complete Level 1: Jellyfish when they can:

Swim freestyle (front crawl) 8 feet independently • Glide on front independently • Retrieve an object from bottom of the pool with assistance • Self-propel 15 feet to the instructor

Level Two: Sea Lion • Ages 5+

Emphasizes freestyle and backstroke skills while continuing to build endurance and independent swimming skills. Min/Max: 3/6

Prerequisites: 5 years old or successful completion of Level 1: Jellyfish • Swim freestyle (front crawl) 8 feet independently • Glide on front independently • Retrieve an object from the pool bottom with assistance • Self-propel 15 feet to the instructor

Swimmers will complete the Sea Lion level when they can:

Swim freestyle (front crawl) 15 feet independently • Swim underwater 10 feet without assistance • Backstroke (back crawl) 8 feet independently

Level Three: Stingray • Ages 5+

Emphasizes the technique of freestyle and backstroke. Perfecting the technique and skills to further build upon the swimmer’s endurance.

Prerequisites: Swimmers must be at least 5 years old or have successfully completed Level 2: Sea Lion • Swim freestyle (front crawl) 15 feet independently • Float and swim on back • Swim underwater 10 feet independently • Backstroke (back crawl) 8 feet independently

Advanced Lessons

Ages 6 — 12 years

Independent swimmers learn and perfect the 4 swim strokes; Student/teacher ratio = 8:1

Level Four: Marlin • Ages 6+

Emphasizes distance, endurance and technique. Swimmers will learn how to openly turn on the wall and begin learning the basics of breaststroke and butterfly.

Prerequisites: Swimmers must be at least 6 years old or have successfully completed Level 3: Stingray • Freestyle with rotary breathing for 1 pool length • Backstroke with good form for 1 length of the pool • Tread water

Skills Taught: Open wall turns • Introduction to Breaststroke kick, breathing and arms • Breaststroke push off and pullout off the wall under water • Butterfly kick (dolphin kick)

Level Five: Dolphin • Ages 6+

Emphasizes distance and technique for all 4 strokes. Swimmers with work on perfecting their turns off the wall along with the stroke overall form.

Prerequisites: Swimmers must be at least 6 years old or have successfully completed Level 4: Marlin • Basic knowledge of open turns • Swim 25 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing • Swim 25 yards Backstroke • Perform Breaststroke kick for 10 yards

Skills Taught: Swim 50 yards Freestyle and Backstroke with a turn • Bilateral breathing • Flip turns • Tread water for 2 minutes • Introduction to arms and breathing for butterfly • Breaststroke with good form for 10 yards

Level Six: Shark • Ages 6+

Emphasizes technique, distance and endurance with all 4 strokes. Swimmers will fine-tune their technique with every stroke and open their opportunity to join a swim team.

Prerequisites: Swim 50 yards freestyle with bilateral breathing with a flip turn • Swim 50 yards backstroke with a flip turn • Breaststroke for 10 yards • Open wall turns • Tread for 2 minutes

Skills Taught: Swim 50 of freestyle with bilateral breathing and a flip turn off the wall • Swim 50 of backstroke with a flip turn off the wall • Swim butterfly with good form and technique for 25 yards • Swim breaststroke for 50 yards with an open turn off the wall • Demonstrate proficiency at all aquatic skills

Customized Private/Semi-Private Swimming Lessons Recommended for Ages 2+

Our customized Private or Semi-Private Lessons are great if you need some flexibly with your busy schedule, if your child is struggling with a few skills, if you just want your child to have more individual attention or if you are not sure what class is right for your child. Our Private and Semi-Privates Lessons come in a set of 3, 30-minute lessons and are booked at the availability of the instructor. Set can be purchased at either the Renaud Center or Alligator’s Creek. We reserve the right to charge a $10.00 fee for all no call, no-shows.

Our Private Lessons consist of 1 swimmer and the instructor. These lessons are based off of your child’s swimming abilities and skill level. $63/$68 per set

Our Semi-Private Lessons consist of 2 swimmers and the instructor. The 2 swimmers can be either friends or family, but they must be at approximately the same skill level. Both participants must be at the lesson for the lesson to be completed. $45/$50 per swimmer

Scheduled Private Swimming Lessons Recommended for Ages 3+

Need more individual instruction than our group lessons allow? Scheduled Private one-on-one swimming lessons are available on a limited basis for swimmers of all ages. These lessons meet on their scheduled days and times for 3 weeks and are 30-minutes long. No refunds will be issued for participants who miss a lesson. Min/Max: 1/1

The Cultural Arts Program offers people of all ages a chance to learn from experts and participate in live theater, special events, concerts, exhibits, art camps, year-round art classes and workshops. Courses are taught by professional artists.

Look for new classes each quarter and see exhibits of paintings, photographs and other media in the Cultural Arts Gallery at the Renaud Center.

Art Classes • Youth and Adult

The City of O’Fallon offers classes for aspiring artists of all ages ranging from introductory classes to advanced classes, providing as little or as much instructor interaction as you want. Class eligibility varies based on age and ability, but all O’Fallon art classes are designed to foster a passion for making art. We understand that there are all levels of learners who want to enjoy the making of art. Join a class and learn the magic behind the craft!

Color O’Fallon • Ages 10+

This six-week course will cover color theory in inventive and imaginative ways. This could be your introduction into the world of color or a refresher for the old hand at painting. Instructor Rachel Cox is an experienced commissioned painter and freelance graphic designer. Her youthful energy will invigorate the most experienced color theorist and enlighten the youngest.
