Sign young kids up for O’Fallon’s soccer leagues Get your kids started early in learning soccer skills and having fun playing games with their teammates. O’Fallon’s exciting, eight-game soccer league is open to boys and girls ages three and up. Kids who play soccer not only have fun, they get great exercise, improve their muscle coordination and learn teamwork, too. Soccer is a great way to encourage a lifetime of healthy athleticism. Games are played on Saturdays starting in March and early registration is open until the league fills or January 24, whichever comes first. (Late registration is available until February 8.) Parents who also coach can register their child for $25. For soccer program details turn to pages 24–25.

Fun fitness classes will get you moving and keep you motivated Have fun, feel better and keep those holiday pounds off with your choice of classes geared to all fitness levels and ages. Turn to page 28 for a roster of classes to develop strength, cardio fitness, flexibility or a combination of all three, with Dance Fitness, Cycling and Yogalates just some of the options to choose from.

Free car seat safety checks by a certified safety technician. See page 16.

Through May 2018 This great eleven-month dance program encourages students to practice and improve throughout the school year, and culminates with the Year-End Dance Recital. Class participation is crucial in preparing for the recital, so we ask that children commit to attending ALL scheduled classes through May 2018. New students will be accepted into the program at any time; however, students who joined after February 2018 will not be eligible to participate in the recital held June 2018. Classes are held at the Civic Annex, 410 East Elm Street, O’Fallon, MO 63366. Regular participation in Civic Dance Studio is the best way to help students build a progressive foundation for dance as they learn and practice dance steps and master the skills they need.

This six-week Martial Arts program will focus on the traditional Korean form of Tae Kwon Do known as Chung Do Kwan. This style is based on explosive movements, devastating power and self-discipline. All students begin training at the “no belt” level. After learning the eight basics and the first form they will be invited to test for the white belt. Students will progress through a series of techniques and belts at their own pace and will NOT necessarily test each session. Because each student progresses at his or her own pace, testing will be at the discretion of the instructor. Children who would like to progress at a faster pace may register for more than one class.

If you are interested in watching one of the classes to see if it is something your child would be interested in, you may do so the last week of the session. Tyke Kwon Do • Ages 3–5 341201-A 341201-B 341201-C 341201-D

In Plain Sight: Homelessness Exposed January 12 – February 23 Medium: Photography One hundred homeless people. One hundred cameras. One mission. These photographers have been empowered to speak out through the camera lens. They have captured a typical day in their fragile lives to share their stories with us and create awareness of those living in poverty. Presented in conjunction with Saints Joachim and Ann Care Service.

March 2 – April 13 Medium: Painting Sam White is a freelance artist and illustrator from O’Fallon. His work combines digital imagery with more traditional illustrative elements. The body of Sam’s work depicts a fictional “alternate” world he says he’s been developing over time. The images have the feel of classic sci-fi and fantasy illustrations of the 1960s and ‘70s. Sam also works in environmental design.

Don’t miss out on these exciting classes! Late registration fees apply. Please email us at otwyouththeatre@gmail.com with questions regarding classes or other youth performing arts programs. The following classes are 12 weeks in length with an end-of-session performance, unless stated otherwise.

Aquatics Learn to Swim

O

’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and around the water. The program is composed of 11 course levels:

Aqua Learning: Preschool: Preschool Plus: Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4: Level 5: Level 6: Level:

Shrimp I and II, Pollywog Turtle Seahorse Explorer Submarine Clipper Sailor Adventurer Barracuda Adult

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples. Pollywog: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes. Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor. Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor. Adult: Class ratio is eight adults to one instructor. Participants will move to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely. Please keep in mind that children learn at different paces and it’s common to repeat a class.

Weekday classes at the RSC meet twice weekly for four weeks and last 35 minutes. Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks.

Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

The Aqua Learning levels help children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepares them to learn how to swim. The classes are divided into three sections: Shrimp I, Shrimp II and Pollywog. Please note: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.

Aqua Learning: Shrimp I • Ages 6 – 18 months Parent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace. Min/Max: 3/8
