Parks & Recreation Director's Message RENO RECREATION AND PARK COMMISSION

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE It’s been just over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic caused a shutdown of our recreation facilities. Our parks remained open as a safe outdoor activity and we saw higher numbers than we’ve ever seen of citizens using our parks to safely and individually recreate outdoors. I must give so much thanks and appreciation to our dedicated parks maintenance and urban forestry crews for keeping up with the maintenance needs that come with increased park usage. As we returned to operations last summer, our recreation team did a fantastic job interpreting all the rules and guidelines, making appropriate adjustments, and adapting our programs and facilities in order to safely reopen to provide services. Our cautious approach and diligent efforts to follow the strict guidelines has allowed us to serve all ages of our community without having any “super spreader” events of COVID in our facilities. The role of parks and recreation continues to be to enhance our community’s quality of life by providing opportunities to improve your health both physically and mentally. We appreciate your patience 6

and understanding with all of the uncertainty, additional rules, and with our cautious approach to keeping both our customers and staff safe while providing programs. We’re all in this together and we will get through this. We look forward to seeing you in our facilities and parks and wish you and yours good health. Please continue to be patient, and be kind to one another.

Warmly, Jaime Schroeder Director of Parks and Recreation.

RENO RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION Commission meetings are virtually held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm. Commission Members: Michael Ginsburg, Chair; Susan Burkhamer, Vice Chair; Peggy Nelson-Aguilar; Emily Lande; David Pritchett; Mac Rossi; Erik Scailse; Austin Youngblood

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships/Fee Assistance (775) 334-2260

The following application forms are listed below Sierra Kids and Camp Programs: • Scholarship - Fee Assistance Application (Sierra Kids and camps only) • Spanish Scholarship - Fee Assistance application Other City of Reno Programs: • City of Reno Scholarship - Fee Assistance Application & Guideline Packet

The City of Reno is committed to providing recreational opportunities to all residents regardless of economic circumstances. For this reason, a limited fund fee assistance program is available to those who qualify. If you have wanted to participate in our all-day camps, before-and-after school programs or qualified classes but couldn’t because of financial circumstances, we encourage you to apply. Income level, family size, and other criteria determine whether or not fee assistance is awarded. Many families that qualify for a reduced program fee are not taking advantage of the opportunity simply because they haven't asked to be considered. For additional information call Norah or Ping at (775) 334-2260 or visit Reno.Gov/ParksandRec. Once you have completed an application, return it to the Administration Office, City Hall, 1 East 1st Street, Reno 89501. Upon receipt of the completed application and the required supporting documents it will take approximately 10 business days to review a scholarship request.
