Parks & Recreation Director's Message RENO RECREATION AND PARK COMMISSION
PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE It’s been just over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic caused a shutdown of our recreation facilities. Our parks remained open as a safe outdoor activity and we saw higher numbers than we’ve ever seen of citizens using our parks to safely and individually recreate outdoors. I must give so much thanks and appreciation to our dedicated parks maintenance and urban forestry crews for keeping up with the maintenance needs that come with increased park usage. As we returned to operations last summer, our recreation team did a fantastic job interpreting all the rules and guidelines, making appropriate adjustments, and adapting our programs and facilities in order to safely reopen to provide services. Our cautious approach and diligent efforts to follow the strict guidelines has allowed us to serve all ages of our community without having any “super spreader” events of COVID in our facilities. The role of parks and recreation continues to be to enhance our community’s quality of life by providing opportunities to improve your health both physically and mentally. We appreciate your patience 6

and understanding with all of the uncertainty, additional rules, and with our cautious approach to keeping both our customers and staff safe while providing programs. We’re all in this together and we will get through this. We look forward to seeing you in our facilities and parks and wish you and yours good health. Please continue to be patient, and be kind to one another.
Warmly, Jaime Schroeder Director of Parks and Recreation.
