Tennis: Adult Beginner/Refresher Program

This program is designed to equip you with the tools you need to start playing. There are two parts to the program. This class is limited to 16 players. After 10 weeks, you will be prepared to play in socials, round robins, or even tournaments! Rackets will be available for use and for purchase. Limited to 12 students per class. $50 per adult. This special program is grant funded.

Phase 1/Instruction

We will offer two different day/times, Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, and Fridays 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. You can come to both sessions if you’d like! The session will last for 6 weeks. The physical, mental, tactical, and technical aspects of tennis will be introduced and practiced. Rules, etiquette, gear, terminology, and history will be covered.

Phase 2/Organized Play

This session will last for 4weeks, Tuesdays 6:00 PM -7:30 PM and Fridays 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Doubles round robin format will be implemented (everyone plays with everyone, no recording of scores). You will practice how to start{warmup}, how to begin, when to serve/receive, when to switch sides, keeping score and how to end a match.

Adult Cardio Tennis: Begins March 5 Cost: $75 Saturdays 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Adult Advanced Drill and Play: Begins March 1 Cost: $75 Tuesdays 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Pee Wee

Ages: 5-7 Cost: $30 Starts March 5th Saturdays 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM

JV/Highschool

Ages: 11-18 Cost: $60 Starts March 5th Saturdays 10:30 AM -11:30 AM

Challengers

Ages: 7-11 Cost: $60 Starts March 5th Saturdays 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Junior Advanced

Ages: 12-18 Cost: $75 Starts March 5th Saturdays 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Outdoor Youth Soccer

Registration: January 18 – March 1 Cost: Residents $60, Non-Residents $70 Ages: 4-13 Location: Sleepy Hole Park Onsite registration is available Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM at the Administration Office located at 134 South 6th Street, Suffolk VA 23434. Practice starts the week of March 21, and games begin April 2 at Sleepy Hole Park. This League is 8weeks. For more information, contact the Athletic Division at 757-5147270.

Adult Basketball

Registration: January 18 – February 22 Cost: $320 per team Ages: 18 + Location: TBD This is a 10week League with 1 game each week. Games will be played on Wednesday nights. Season begins March 9. A tournament will be held after the regular season. Registration must be completed at the Administration Office located at 134 S. 6th Street.

The Suffolk Office on Youth was started in 2006 to oversee several prevention and outreach programs to assist youth and families in improving their overall quality of life. Through programs, resources, and partnerships, we look to add a positive, nurturing, and healthy community for every child in Suffolk. Mother-Son Dance

Date: February 23 Time: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Cost: $25 per family Registration is required Join us for an evening of dancing, food, fun, and more. This night will feature mother’s being escorted by their most handsome guy, their son. Casual attire is welcomed. There will be photos available for purchase. You don’t want to miss out on this chance to spend some quality time with your son, while showing you still got it on the dance floor.

Youth Achievement Awards

Applications will be accepted for the 2022 Youth Achievement Awards starting January 2022. The application deadline is March 8, 2022. The awards are open to middle and high school students that reside in Suffolk. These awards honor youth who have significantly impacted the lives of local residents and have inspired others to make a difference. Residents are encouraged to take the time to nominate a person or group you feel is deserving of this recognition. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00 PM. The categories are as follows: • Outstanding Community Service Award • Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award— HIGH SCHOOL ONLY • Outstanding Athletic Participation Award – MIDDLE SCHOOL ONLY • Outstanding Youth Leadership Award • Rising Star Award • Outstanding Group Citizenship Award • Outstanding Performing Arts Award Please contact Rickeda Fofana at 757-514-4503 for more information.

Increase The Peace Fashion Show

Date: March Time: 6:00 PM Cost: $5 admission for ages 5+ Location: Suffolk Cultural Arts Center The 10th Annual Increase the Peace Fashion Show will feature local youth modeling various types of attire. A portion of the proceeds will go towards a non-profit.

Vision Board Event

Date: January 29 Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Cost: Free Location: East Suffolk Recreation Center Come join us as we learn how to map out our goals for the New Year by creating your very own vision board! Vision boards are awesome tools used to help clarify, concentrate, and maintain focus on a specific life goal.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION

Therapeutic Recreation (TR) is a treatment service designed to restore, remediate and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life activities. The goal of TR is to promote health and wellness through recreation, while reducing restrictions of participation in life situations caused by illness or disabling condition.

Karaoke Nights

Dates: February and March 2022 Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Cost: Free Ages: 5-21 Location: Planters Club Don’t miss out on the opportunity to showcase your musical talents. Come sing your heart out to your favorite tunes with family and friends.
