ICONICON 2023

Date: April 22 Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Ages: All Cost: Free Location: North Suffolk Library Join us for the biggest, free gathering of sci-fi, fantasy, comic, and anime fans in the area at Suffolk Public Library’s 7th annual IconiCon! The multi-fandom event features a gaming tournament, cosplay contest, fan art contest, local vendors, food trucks, and more! IconiClub: Road to IconiCon

Dates: January 23, February 27, and March 27 Time: 6:00 - 7:30 PM Ages: Teens & Adults Cost: Free Location: North Suffolk Library The countdown to IconiCon begins! Prepare for SPL’s yearly Convention at IconiClub, our monthly meetup for all things fandom. Talk about your favorite animes, graphic novels, superheroes, and more, join in friendly debates with other sci-fi, fantasy, comic, and anime fans, watch shows, and get hands on with crafts. Drop in anytime during the event.

IconiCrafts

Dates: April 11, 18, and 25 Ages: Elementary to Adults Cost: Free Location: Virtual & Kit It’s the countdown to IconiCon! Get pumped for SPL’s Con with crafty, fan-favorite activity kits and bring a little bit of IconiCon home! The pre-recorded IconiCrafts videos premiere at 6:00PM on Suffolk Public Library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. All materials are provided, please register to reserve your kit. Upcoming themes are: Pixel Art, Poké Balls, and Avatar: The Last Airbender Clay Tiles.

Black and Super: Celebration of Black Heroes and Comic Creators

Date: February 18 Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Ages: All Cost: Free Location: Morgan Memorial Library Black and Super is a celebration of Black comic characters and Black comic creators. Join us for an afternoon of superheroics, and learn about the history of popular African American superheroes. We will have games, activities, prizes, vendors, and more!

Kite Festival: Basant

Date: January 14 Time: 2:00 - 4:00 PM Ages: Families Cost: Free Location: Sleepy Hole Park Welcome spring with an early kite-flying festival at Sleepy Hole Park! Basant, also known as Jashn-e-Baharan, is a festival when people in western India and Pakistan welcome springtime by flying thousands of kites. Paint the sky with colorful kites, try some spring Indian and Pakistani treats, and celebrate spring! Supplies will be provided to create kites. Participants are also welcome to bring their own kites.

Tangled Hearts: Murder Mystery

Date: January 28 Time: 6:00 - 8:00 PM Ages: Adults Cost: Free Location: Planter’s Club You’re in for a night of immersive intrigue and sleuthing! Join us for a murder mystery where anyone could be the killer! Light refreshments will be served. Registration required.

Harlem Nights: A Jazz Social

Date: February 4 Time: 6:30 - 8:30 PM Ages: Adult Cost: Free Location: Suffolk Art Gallery Put on your best 20s attire and chassé down to the Harlem Nights Jazz Social! Highlighting important figures from the Harlem Renaissance, there will be jazz music by The Band Vontrelle, dancing, and appetizers.
