The Tunnel

•

Single drive from Water St to Nikau St

The Shafts Water St (the Drive Shaft) 16m deep secant pile construction • 8.5m internal diameter • 0.75m piles bored with a Soilmec SR40 drill rig (50 tonne) • 50-80 tonne crawler crane Mt Eden Rd 18m deep access chamber • 2.5m internal diameter • Casing installed by Liebherr LRB155 (70 tonne) drill rig • 50-80 tonne crawler crane Nikau St (the receiving shaft) 15m deep shaft • 9.4m internal diameter stepped down to 5.6mØ • Pre cast concrete caissons • 50-80 tonne crawler crane • 30-35 ton excavator with rock breaker

Timing/Programme •

First site works – Mid February at Water St with hoardings going up followed by Mt Eden Rd and Nikau St

Works will then be continuous from this period through until January 2019 at Water St and Nikau St. Mt Eden Rd will be to some extent dependent on tunnelling progress.

GPTs: GPT1 (Boston Rd-late February) GPT2 (Boston Rd-Mid March) GPT3 (Normanby Rd-Early April) Completion will be early May with each GPT taking about four weeks.

Impacts •

Hours of Work: • 7.00am to 7.00pm • 24 hours for MTBM

Noise: • Rock breaking at Nikau St • Generators at Water St • General construction activity

•

Traffic: • Site establishment of plant • Truck movements

Summary •

The work sites are quite contained with activities restricted to within the boundaries apart from truck movements.
