Images and information on construction of the entrance below ground were shared with the group for block wall rooms, ducting, slab pours, overtrack exhaust system slab, platform level, plunge column removal, lift shaft work and external wall construction.
Beresford Square - Progress and highlights since March’s CLG – Emmanuel Chatoux
Information on the continued construction of internal walls, columns and lower levels, installation of the first lift shaft, construction of the top half of the 40-metre escalator slab, as well as the continued works above ground for the entrance structure and the service building.
Mined Tunnels – Progress and highlights since March’s CLG – Pierre Daudibertieres
An overview and images from the progress made in the mined tunnels, including start of rail installation in MC30 (southbound tunnel) and cable tray installation. In MC20 (northbound tunnel), platform construction and provisional screen door installation in is nearing completion, with OTE construction taking place in the southern end of MC20.
Station fit-out – Progress and highlights since March’s CLG – Jonathan Hill

Jonathan talked about the superstructure erection at Beresford Square and next steps after this point, before covering the Mercury Lane structure façade, rail installation within the mined tunnels, works that will take place within Adit 1 and backfill of the temporary access shaft, before recapping the start of Uban Realm.
Questions and Answers
Where is the timelapse video?
The timelapse video is on our City Rail Link’s YouTube channel, along with all videos produced for the project.
What’s the support available financially to impacted businesses?
There is a support package available to those impacted by our works (Small Business Support Package), up to $3,000 plus GST There is an application process, and we have a third-party representative who works alongside the business.
Did you say you use paint mixers?
Yes, we have very specific paint mixers we use to ensure we are compliant
Are the panels cast from a carving?
The artist will do a carving, that’s given to a team who create a 3D model, which is then turned into a plastic mold This is then filled with concrete by the precast team.
What’s the panel material?
The material is concrete.
Where will there be public toilets at Beresford Square?
The public toilet will be in the service building behind the station entrance
Is the ventilation stack noisy?
No
Are there fans in the station box and what’s the capacity?
They are not yet installed but there will be two massive ventilation fans on the third level below ground at Beresford Square. They can pump up 130,000 litres of air per second.
Will the roller doors be one-sided?
They will be for the entrance points, not for all sides of the entrance structures.
What is on the top of that structure [Mercury Lane entrance building]?
That is the ventilation stack for the station entrance.
Have you left provisional room for foundation work underneath what was the Mercury Plaza?
Yes, we have. This was factored into the tunnel network design before our work began.
Do you have more than sound barriers to mitigate noise above ground?
We do use them but with the general noise from Karangahape Road, there’s only so much we can do. We try to use quieter machinery during urban realm and use sound barriers. We’ll work with the shop owners to minimize the disruption
Realistically, working with local businesses is great but can you stick to what you agree with businesses?
We do our best. We try to align our bookings of works with what we agree with businesses but there are some supplier-based issues, among other factors, that can be out of our control. Traffic and weather can affect works on the day, but we do try to align our timings as best as we can.
We keep in close contact with our stakeholders during this time to ensure they are kept up to date on developments and work with them to minimize disruption.
