WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT IN
ALBERT STREET
- UTILITY INVESTIGATIONS In early September, utility investigations will commence on Albert Street between Wyndham Street and Wellesley Street. We’ll be taking a look underneath the street at approximately 12 sites, to pinpoint the location of services such as water, electricity, communications, and gas.
The investigations involve some concrete cutting, excavation and use of a hydrovac machine to suck material from the investigation site. There will be some noise and we’ll use noise mats to reduce the impact on pedestrians and ground floor businesses. Small work areas will be set up at each location and we expect to be at each site for about two days.

Taking time to investigate before we relocate those services away from our station construction improves site safety for our teams, makes the relocation process more efficient and reduces the likelihood of disruption to the services.
WHAT TO
EXPECT • You will still be able to enter businesses and buildings at all times • The footpath width will be reduced around investigation sites • Pedestrians may be detoured across the road at times • Some noise at times • Work to take around two days at each site
Potholes are dug in streets to find out what utilities are beneath the surface. Existing records can sometimes be inaccurate or vague, especially if old. Identifying the owners of utilities can be a challenge if the utilities are not where the records say they should be!
