WHAT'S HAPPENING
ON SITE 2019-2020 Between now and the end of 2020, there will be many different types of construction activities happening at the Link Alliance’s Mt Eden worksite to prepare for the start of the main station and tunnel construction.
Feel free to ask the Mt Eden Station team or contact us on mteden@linkalliance.co.nz if you have questions about specific activities you see here.

These diagrams highlight key activities that will start on site and some of the plant and equipment that will be introduced during the early works phase. It is important to note that the phases of work overlap and are not sequential. This means that different activities may occur at different times in different areas of the site.

DEMOLITION PHASE 2
This diagram outlines the three phases of demolition for the CRL-owned buildings within the station construction area. Demolition will start in the area marked ‘Phase 1’ but it’s possible that Phase 2 and/or Phase 3 may start before all of Phase 1 is completed. You will see trucks and excavators on site. We will crush concrete on site to minimise noise disturbance and waste from demolition.
Before the end of 2019, we will realign Flower Street to accommodate the retaining wall for the future tunnel portal. Utility services around the Flower/Nikau Street intersection will also be relocated at this time. Our site office will be located at 97k Mt Eden Road.

This stage of work involves the creation of the tunnel portal at the corner of Flower and Nikau Streets. This includes installing concrete bored piles of between 15 and 35 metres to retain the ground so that we can excavate to the level of the future CRL tunnels, which will start from here. We will also be progressively excavating to create stepped platforms for the piling rig to operate from.
During this stage, we will start drilling into basalt rock and undertaking controlled underground blasting to allow for the excavation of the cut and cover tunnels and the future CRL platform within the train station. Blasting has the benefit of avoiding prolonged and noisy rock-breaking activities.

While the portal works are continuing, we will start the bulk excavation of the trenches required for the future tunnels and platform. One of those trenches will be graded to act as a ramp for the tunnel boring machine (TBM).

on Ruru Street to go over the future platform for the new CRL line.
We will also start mining the entrance of the tunnel portal to prepare the launch area for the TBM.
The construction team will move to the new site facilities, demolish the temporary office at 97k Mt Eden Road and start constructing the retaining wall next to the Western Line corridor. Construction of the foundations for the future Mt Eden Station building is expected to start at the end of 2020. The tunnel boring machine is expected to launch around the same time.
