Canadian singer-songwriter James Gordon will perform in Lansdowne Folk Club’s next concert Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Twentieth Century Club, 84 S. Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne, PA. when purchased in advance online or with an advanced phone reservation and $20 without an advance reservation. Parking is available on the street and at the SEPTA train station approximately one block away. James Gordon has had a remarkably diverse 40-year career in the Canadian entertainment business. As a solo singer-songwriter and with the ground-breaking trio Tamarack, he has released over forty albums, and has toured relentlessly around the world. Gordon has written for symphony orchestras, musical theatre and dance works, film scores, and for more than ten years was heard on CBC radio as songwriter-in-residence for the Basic Black and Ontario Morning programs. His song Mining For Gold was featured in the John Sayles film Silver City, and was included on the classic Cowboy Junkies album The Trinity Sessions. UNTITLED is a monologue play in two parts, with one actor playing twin brothers born on Nigeria’s Independence Day. But on the night of their traditional naming ceremony, one infant brother cries out and refuses to be named plunging him into a life of chaos. Previews begin Wednesday, April 24, with opening night on Friday, April 26. The show runs through May 12, 2019 for a total of 15 performances. All performances will take place at the Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake, 302 South Hicks Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $15 - $35. For reservations, visit https://inisnuatheatre.org.

The opera-in-concert Semele tells the tale of a princess’s love affair with a god told in a stream of easy-flowing melodies and dazzling coloratura, and with show-stopping arias including “Endless pleasure, endless love” and “Where’er you walk.” Soprano Brenda Rae appears in the title role of Semele.

The English Concert is one of the most highly-acclaimed performers of music of the baroque and classical periods, believing that they can get to the essential core of the music through their performances on original instruments, with styles of playing and singing appropriate to a composer or period. Established in 1973 by Trevor Pinnock, the ensemble, comprised of an international group of musicians, is currently led by Artistic Director Harry Bicket.
