Today, I am happy to see the new elements emerging in the Hall. The monthly SPECIAL Hall Night Talk, and the formation of the I.T. team will surely benefit all Prosperians and prepare you for your careers. I am also proud to see Prosperians’ achievements in various aspects. With the lead of the new resident master Dr Ray Cheung, I hope you will continue to demonstrate the Spirit of Prosperity, spare no effort to cultivate yourselves to be pillars of society, contribute to the Hall, to our University, and to the community; and excel in your achievements! I hope you will all immerse in the Wonderland of CityU HSBC Prosperity Hall!
Congratulations to all of you on the 15th anniversary of CityU HSBC Prosperity Hall! CityU HSBC Prosperity Hall, since its initial launch in 2002, and its naming from “Hall 2” to “HSBC Prosperity Hall” in 2004, has been the sweet homes to hundreds and thousands of thriving Prosperians. The traditional Prosperians Night, the weekly dessert nights, the Annual Dinner, the door deco and floor deco contests all bring Prosperians together in the Spirit of Prosperity.

Hall life:
From Internationalization to Integration Along with the emphasis of internationalization in the CityU campus, the number of non-local students living in residential halls is increasing gradually. This escalation of internationalization in residential halls creates more opportunities for local students to interact with non-local students outside classroom. However, this level of interaction between local and non-local student residents depends on the degree of integration of student residents with diverse cultural backgrounds. Also, language barrier has always been considered as the main hurdle to internationalization and integration.
“ I am happy to see that Hall 2 has organized many integration-friendly activities, such as Prosperians night, weekly dessert night and monthly “SPECIAL” hall night talks, under the theme of Wonderland. Especially, their recent achievements, such as Inter-Hall Basketball competition (Champion - Men) and Joint-Hall League of Legends Cup (Champion), can well demonstrate the success of internationalization and integration in its hall culture. Well done! Anyhow, I would like to share with Hall 2 residents the two photos that I took to show my appreciation of the CityU flower (Brazil Bougainvillea).

Student Residence is an unique learning experience for most students, including me, my wife, and my little angel, Raisie. HSBC Prosperity Hall hosts 250 students from local family, International family, half-year and 1-year exchange student family. I am deeply fortunate to serve at our hall, in particular this year marking the 15th years milestone with all residents. The dedicated supports from SRO colleagues, fellow hall masters, professional and responsible hall tutor team, and energetic hall residence association team, have enriched and built up a colorful community for everyone of us.
With the prosperous achievements from all the former and current 3,750 Properians, we hope that in the years to come, we continue to strive our best with the Prosperian’s spirit and history, and at the same time we develop and innovate by all means via new and student initiated activities, such as the CityU SPECIAL Hall Night Talks, Hall 2 IT Team. Thank you very much all for your vital contributions to every corner at the HSBC Prosperity Hall. Who are we? We are the members of Hall 2! Dr. Ray Cheung Residence Master, 2016 - Present

Residence Tutors Cristiano LAM 1/F and 2/F ACE Undergraduate Student
Hello! I am Cristiano, Residence Tutor of 1//F and 2/F. After being Resident Tutor, I think that RT is a challenging and meaningful job. Being a RT, I have to handle many disciplines of our hall such as floor management, inter-hall meeting, PEK Cup, resident care and RA liaison. These duties are demanding and busy but i think they also make me contented because I can learn so many things from them. For example, when I handle PEK Cup, I can contact many residents, especially non-local students. As a manager, I must communicate with them. It lets me make many friends in our hall and improve my communication skill, English and Putonghua. In RA liaison, I can teach them how to organise activities and how to get a good relationship with residents by my past experience. It also makes me feel satisfied. To sum up, I think that RT is not just a job. It required our responsibility, concern and heart. I love this job.
Jess Lui 3/F and 4/F

My name is Jess and I am a year 3 student majoring in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. I am responsible for supervising the third and forth floor in HSBC Prosperity Hall. It is my honour to be a residence tutor, especially for the third and forth floor. I am very grateful to work for our new hall master, Dr. Ray, our RT team and RA team. Hall 2 is my home away from home, and I enjoy every moment living in hall 2, working and playing with my hallmates. I gained valuable friendships, skills, and happiness during my hall stay. HSBC Prosperity Hall is definitely one of the most important parts

This is Mani. I took pride to be one of the RT serving propserians this year. Living in hall 2 is very ‘warm’. We play mahjong in midnight, hold weekly dessert night, enjoy late night chat with roomie and cheer crazily in inter-hall events. All of these moments are the dormitory memories that will not be erased by time. I hope to create more memories with you!

最後,再 次歡迎每位新入住的業昕人,希望你地會 發現或者都覺得住業昕堂係一件好開心的 事,然後再一齊將業昕堂變得更好玩啦 : p Being the chairlady of council, I am glad to work with all parties and make HALL2 a better place for living. I always feel grateful to see all new faces and I sincerely wish all of you will have a joyful year with HALL2!

Hello! This is Nicole from 9/F, the external vice president of Parliament. This is my first year living in Hall 2. I’m so blessed to have met many great people here that there are always people supporting me. Becoming one of the executive committee members is the most valuable experience that I’ve gained in Hall 2 this year. Not only have I learnt how to organise activities, my interpersonal skills have also improved. I believe Hall 2 is a good place for us to learn and play. I hope everyone enjoy living in this place.
Sam
I am Lee Chun Yin, the internal-vice president of this year executive committee, Parliament. You may ask me one question. Why would you like to be one of the executive committee? My answer is the sense of belonging of hall 2. In hall 2, there are a lot of activities held by different parties, such as Prosperians’ Night, Manjong Competition. You can grab the chance to know different people in hall 2. Hall 2 is certainly a warm big family; everybody treats you as their best friend. We play together, drink together, and eat together. Apart from my study, living in Hall 2 is really a fruitful experience in my university life.
I am Wong Shuk Wa, Suki, the welfare secretary of Parliament, the 13th resident association executive committee, City University of Hong Kong. It is glad to be one of the hall2 residents. Hope all of you will enjoy and have a happy life in hall 2.

I am Selina Lam,the recreation secretary of Parliament .This is my first year to live in a hall which is a special and fabulous experience for me.Hall 2 just like another home of mine.
Joe
Hello, I am Joe! This is my first year living in Hall 2 and I enjoy the time at the hall because there were various activities and opportunities for me to learn and explore myself. Also, the “Warm” culture promoted by the hall enabled me to make friends and living happily with the residents. Besides, being a member of the executive committee is the most fruitful experience for me because I have gained experiences in organizing activities and trained up my ability to develop a better communication and interpersonal relationships with others. To be honest, I was worried before joining the executive committee because I was currently a year-3 student and I’m not good at interacting with others. This was quite challenging for me to balance both the busy study and the exco activities at the same time. Although organizing the Exco’s activities was challenging and it required much time, it’s worthwhile to me to serve and enjoy the happiest moment with all the prosperians. Also, I hope to take this chance to explore, challenge and grow up myself.
Hello,I am Ives from 5/F. I am a year one student majoring in public policy and I am also the Sports secretary of Parliament, the 13th executive committee of Hall 2!! For a year one freshmen, i am quite unfamiliar with hall life. To be honest, I was afraid of adapting a new environment and making new friends. Fortunately, Hall2 is a excellent place for me to living in, no pressure, easy to make friends, etc. Those good stuffs are the elements to sway me to decide to be an executive member. At last, I wanna to make this hall to be better and giving our residents a enjoyable hall life!

I am Lisa, the General Secretary of Parliament, the 13th executive committee of Hall 2 and living on 6th floor. Hall 2 is a place where you can make good friends and exchange the different cultures. As for my major, I am a Year 2 student who is major in Psychology. However, I cannot read out of your mind, don’t worry. Also weak short-term memory is my latest characteristic. My hobby is watching TV series, tasting different kinds of cuisine, and sleeping:) This is my first year living in Hall 2, and I enjoy every moment here!

I am Nelor, a year 2 student living in hall2, 106A. It actually is my second year of being a hall 2 resident, which is definitely my honor. Living on the 1st floor, I am surrounded by the warmth of my floormates as well as my tutor, Chi. We, the “firsters”, keep a tradition that we all gather in the common room and have a sweet dessert night. It is not just about eating or making desserts, but rather about knowing everyone and sharing your life. When someone is in need of a helping hand (maybe some laundry stuff), there will always be one. As for our RT, Chi, he smiles a lot to us, sometimes even a little bit shy, but yet very responsible for his work. In a word, if I could start over, I would still choose to be a “firster”.
The first floor is a big family. It is very joyful to live with my floormates. Everyone here is kind and helpful. I can still remember the Cantonese they taught me. We have lots of common memories here: enjoy dessert together, play mahjong in the common room, eat delicious hotpot, tell jokes together etc. We share happiness and sorrow. It is an unforgettable experience to live in hall 2 first floor.

I’ve lived in Hall 2 for nearly 2 years. As far as I left home to such a faraway place, Hall 2 has already become my second home. I can always feel the prosperians’ spirits in daily life. No matter doing competition, cheering, making desserts or attending various activities, you can always find that there are a group of people gathering together doing things for our hall and our hall mates. I am proud of being one of them. You will find out that there are more things you can get from your experience living in Hall 2 rather than merely academic affairs in university. My life in Hall 2 makes my university experience become more colorful.
This is my first year in HSBC Prosperity Hall, and it definitely bring me a memorable hall life.It also delights my Univerity life as i can gather with my hallmate and even floormate that also lived in the first floor. My floormates are so friendly and helpful. They makes me to feel free to asking their help when i got problems. Moreover, I met a lot of new friend in my floor or in this hall that with different characteristics. They all becoming the pieces of my life and further complete it. I can learn different culture from meeting with floormates that came from different countries and it helps my communication and even my global exposure.

People are nice, talkative, and most importantly, active at Floor 2. This year we have the president of the Hall Association being a of the members of this floor, who devoted to organize various activities for all hallmates. We have Gina and Tina to won the floor decoration at 16/17 Sem A, whose theme was a pair of scary ghosts that could scare floormates at midnight. We also have numerous delicious weekly dessert meetings where floormates gather and share their own culture and perspectives or recent experiences, that widen our horizon cultures such as Germany, United States, Indian, Singapore, and the list goes on. In short, if you open yourself to the floor atmosphere, you are sure to get something in return.

There is a lot of diversity on the 2nd floor. The blend of the different cultures grants us the opportunity to constantly learn from each other, and that’s one of my favorite parts of living in HALL 2. While some nights are very peaceful, which is advantageous for studying, we do have weekly dessert nights that allows us to mingle with my other floormates. Everyone here is always kind and helpful, which makes my dorming experience that much fulfilling. I enjoy the fact that I can call Hall 2 my home and I have a wonderful roommate to share that with.

There are many interactions between each other in this hall and we have dessert night every Tuesday which make this place become a warm place. We give support to each others when they are having numerous midterm and projects, especially among the same floor. The time spent in this hall is really great!
Jacqueline 301B Over my three years, living in Hall 2 has been a joyful adventure. Being an international student, I was made to feel at ease by the ever so friendly local residents and the security guards of Hall 2. The weekly dessert nights, Edmond Ko Cup football tournaments (although we never made it past Quarter Finals :P) and other fun events truly made my experience of living in Hall 2 a memorable one. There are many activities as well like – Prosperians Night, Halloween Night, Carnival Night organized each year which make us forget our differences and bring us together, united as Hall 2 Prosperians.

I am WANG MENG, a year two student from Finance and a new comer of HALL Two. There are many unique activities held here, such as the ‘Dessert Night’, ‘Prosperians` Night’ as well as ‘SPECIAL NIGHT’, which largely enrich our leisure time and provide us chances to meet more friends. Additionally, by attending hall decoration team and the cheering team, I felt more about the team spirit in such a large ‘family’. Things happened somehow due to the cruel word “RETURN”, but what we could learn and do is far more than that, and I believe hall two is a wonderful place to stay, study and stretch our mind.

This is Marco from 602B. Floor 6 is a loving and energetic floor. People with different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds interact and get along with one another peacefully and joyfully. The boys are avid video game players, and they raise money together to buy second-hand PS3 gaming console, controllers and game discs. FIFA 16 is our all-time favourite. Apart from gaming talents, we have diverse talents such as soccer, sprint, singing and photo taking. Zita is such a MASTER of activity organiser. She organises most of our floor activities like floor dining out, hiking and visit to outlying island. She is the real BOSS. All in all, floor 6 is so FABULOUS, so are the elevators, which sometimes at immediate service on our floor. Haha.

The two years hall life is like a brilliant firework show and all beautiful memories will stay in my mind forever. I still remember the hall members cheered for me under typhoon in swimming gala, the unforgettable study tour in Seoul, dessert night and so on. In the past years, I developed strong friendship with my dear hall mates. We explored this city together and shared good time in Hall 2. My name is HAN Yixun, Amy from 704A. I am a year 3 Psychology student and have been living in Hall 2 since I first came to CityU. The first thing I like about Hall 2 is its geographical location. It is neither far from the main campus, compared with Hall 10&11, nor too distant from CMC building. Besides its convenience, it is also relatively quiet because of the little noise of the sound of car engines; and if you live on the side facing to the north, it would be even more comfortable for your rest, in addition to an excellent view of the Beacon Hill. Another thing that’s important and my favourite is Hall 2 spirit. From my own perspective, warmth is the most salient characteristic of Hall 2 and is why I enjoy living here so much. Our traditional Hall activities such as weekly Dessert Night connect all the floor mates very well and bring each other closer. The relationships between Hall 2 staff and Hall mates, between Hall mates and Hall mates are tight since everybody is nice, friendly and supportive. I would like to thank Hall 2 for having given such a warm experience to me and wish Hall 2 all the best!
Yolo!

8th Floor SENSATION
Hi! This is Grace, new floor representative from 8th floor. Our floor has a lot of students from foreign countries, Korea, Singapore, Norway, Mainland China, France and US. So, we can share different culture by making desserts from their own countries for dessert night, and get to know each other more having floor activities. I am mostly satisfied with my hall life, but sometimes I would like to have more communication between hall or floor mates to know if there is any difficulty or problem. As an international student, I think Hall 2 mostly encourage students to get together through many hall activities, and this makes me enjoy my life with many local and international friends as well.

I’m Vienna, the floor representative from 8/F. Living in Hall 2 for a semester has been a great experience. People are nice and welcoming. Being a bit of an introvert, it is truly a grateful thing. My floormates are kind. Sometimes we meet each other in the common room, we will share food and have a long chat. I have make friends that can last. The special culture in Hall 2 of having dessert night once a week is a great idea. Not only provides an opportunity for us to try different kind of desserts, but also allows us to meet regularly that helps to strengthened the relationships with each other. Plus, other floors kindly invites other from different floors to join the activities. In short, Hall 2 is a warm and comfortable place to live. I’m looking forward to my hall life in the future.

Hi! My name is Wes. I have been living in Hall 2 for almost two years. In the first year, when I lived on the 5th floor, I met some wonderful guys from China, Netherlands, Malaysia, the United States, Italy, etc. etc., and some great local guys as well. In the second year, I moved to 8th floor and met more great girls and guys and participated in some hall activities. The orientation camp was a lot of fun and a good opportunity for a mainland student like me to make local friends. I also enjoyed some hall sports events like football and basketball competitions. Both training with our players and cheering for the team were great experiences. In the first semester of year 2, I joined the IT team. It turned out to be the most rewarding part of my hall life: we helped to create a coding culture in hall 2 and learnt from each other as well.

Hello, I am Ray living in 903B. Year 3 student study in Social Work. This year is my third year in CityU, and also in our Prosperity Hall. From 2014 to 2017, in this three years, our hall is the witness to my growth and development in university and Hong Kong. The three years life in our hall also elaborates me the meaning of “Hall 2 is your second home. Home, as a concept in Chinese, is a warm haven for her residents. Every time when I come back in the night, the light in the lobby and the smile of our dear security will make my mind feel warm and peace. Living in Hall 2, the diverse and colourful activities will never make you feel boring; the weekly dessert night will never make you feel the bitterness in life; the atmosphere in our hall will never make you feel alone. The memories will blur over and over the time, but the camera can archive your memories in photos. Therefore, I am keen on using my camera to record the moments in our hall life. So that I can recall the life in our hall after years.

Room: 905A Major: Information management (business intelligence) How long: First yearrrr Feeling: hall 2 is really a internationalized residence which helps me feel more confident in meeting foreign friends. It is a great place for us to meet and communicate with friends with different stories. Hello fellow Prosperians! My name is Monisha and I am from India. It is my second year of living in hall two, and what a great two years it’s been! During my time here at hall two I have had some really special experiences. As an international student I was obviously very nervous about living by myself in a new country, but the warm and inviting attitude of the residents of this hall made adapting to my new life a lot easier. The magic of this hall does not only come from the great events that we organize but in the little joys of living in the hall and everyday interactions with the people here. I have come to learn that us Prosperians grow the most when we grow together as a family, and I will always be grateful for all the moments I have shared in this hall and look forward to the ones to come.

As an exchange student, there is many stressful thoughts that go through your mind as you arrive in your new home. Will it be comfortable? Will I like my roommate? Will it be clean? Can I cook my own food? Will I make friends and be accepted? As I entered my tiny room on floor 11 of Hall 2, some of those fears disappeared. Small but clean! And soon enough as the weeks went by the rest of those fears were completely gone. With the common room fridge and kitchen, I have just what I need in order try and cook what my mind is craving. Haven’t always been successful but that why I’m glad we have the numerous canteens that help me survive when my cooking skills fail. My roommate has been a sweat heart, always making me discover new Hong Kong treats and sharing interesting conversations about the differences in culture. I got to know the other girls on my floor at the Prosperians Night around a delicious Poon Choi. Good food, fun activities and lots of selfies made the night very enjoyable! I also got to share desert night with my floor mate every Wednesday. Then I got asked to join the Hall 2 female basket ball team, we weren’t the greatest (Except Yan, Yan was killing it) but we had lots of fun during our practice. Then the hall went very quiet during Chinese New Year, everybody went back home and it felt like a ghost town. Now that everybody is back, I’m looking forward to joining other activities along side my Hallmate! One suggestion I have for anybody living in Hall 2, especially exchange students, would be to get involve. I’ve learnt so much already and it’s only been a month :D

Hi I am Elaine from floor 11. It is my second year to live in hall 2. For me, hall 2 is an amazing environment. Hall activities were held by the residence association. I met a lot of new friends by joining several events. Although I have to cope with the difficulties when I’m living with my roommate, which are the challenges that I have never encountered, I learn to become independent and to ask for help and support from the other residents. Hall 2 is also a favorable learning environment. Attendance Taking App group was formed this year and I got the opportunity to be involved in programming. Self-learning resources were provided for us to know more about coding, which is a useful technical skill. It is an unforgettable experience for me to be a prosperian and to be involved in the hall life at hall 2. I’m Aruhan from Inner Mongolia and I’ve been in Hall 2 for three years. Hall 2 is appealing to me because it pursues union and multiculture. It makes me feel like staying at home and I am lucky to have so many friends, studying and playing with them. Prosperian night, high table, floor decoration and dessert give us the chance to join the environment and make a difference to our residence. We laugh, we enjoy and grow up together with our lovely Hall and I should say living in Hall 2 is one of the most memorable parts of my university life.

Ashley 3.

Grace 2.

Favourite things to do in the hall I wish I could condense the theme of hall 2 in a few words but I fInd it quite diFFIcult. Our hall life revolves around fLoor hot pot, mah-jong nights, and FLoor dessert, and they are only some of my favourite things in this hall. The magic of this hall does not only come from the major events it organizes but in the little joys of living in the hall and everyday interactions with the people here. So of course I enjoy Prosperians Night, High Table dinners and all the other major events, but it is the small everyday joys of interacting with the good people here that really make me happy, whether its saying hello to hall mates or “jou-san to the securities in the lobby.
Cultural communication between own country and HK I am blessed to have a multicultural upbringing, as my mother is Russian and my father is Indian, so growing up I was constantly exposed to the magic of cross-cultural communication. Coming to Hong Kong was an extension of that learning, as this city is built on international interaction. My upbringing has made me sensitive to the subtleties that one must keep in mind while interacting with people from other backgrounds, so I FInd it quite enjoyable to interact with people here in HK and learn more about the local culture in the process.
Most unforgettable experience One of my most favourite things about the culture of hall 2 is the regular floor dessert night. Last semester for my dessert night I had prepared a fruit tart for my floor and had a lot of fun while doing it. I invited as many FLoor mates as possible, and even invited our Hall Master Dr. Ray. It was a very fun experience to sit around the table with my FLoor mates and speak to our Hall Master about various topics, all while enjoying some dessert. It is a night I will not forget, and I hope everybody enjoys the fLoor dessert night as much as I do, because it is such a good chance to build bonds with your hallmates.
Expectations and advice During my two years of being in hall2, I have watched it change a lot. The Hall Master, RA and RTs constantly work day and night to make this hall as good as it can possibly be, and I trust that they will continue to keep up the great traditions we have here, so I do not have much advice to give. Although I must say that I walk a long way to go the gym every morning so I think it would be a great idea to install one in the ground FLoor for all our hall residents to use. After all we really need to burn off all those calories we get from the dessert we eat every week!

THREE QUESTIONS FOR ...
Jacobus Du Plessis
-101A, from South Africa, third year in hall2
1
What is your most unforgettable experience in hall2?
There have been many unforgettable experiences in hall2, but by far the most unforgettable was in Semester B of year 1 when floor 10 won the floor decoration competition. We spent so many hours building a massive pirate ship to cover the entrance of the floor. We had a lot of fun doing it and in the end won a Taste Voucher which we used to buy ingredients so we could all cook a big meal together.
2
What is your favourite thing to do in hall2? And in HK in general?
In Hall 2: One of my favourite things to do is to grab a good book and go down to the Hall 2 reading room and read there in quiet. The big red couch is super comfortable, unlike my little green office chair in my room. In Hong Kong in general: My favourite thing about Hong Kong is how it is such a great mixture between a big city and alot of nature. I love exploring the hidden corners of the city and finding all the cool little shops, stores and cafes the city has to offer. I also really enjoy the natural parts of Hong Kong. One of my favourite places is Cheung Chau island where I often go to eat some delicious fish balls and lounge on the beach (that's when the weather is good).
3
What are your advices and expectations to hall2?
I would like to see more of a community feeling in the hall and see the Hall Residents Association Committee do more to bring local and foreign students together by hosting mixed activities. (western and local activities). This way we could all get a more authentic idea of each others' cultures.
063
Weekly Dessert Nights Weekly dessert nights are one of the most popular activities of hall 2. Delecious and special desserts are prepared by our prosperians. Each room takes turn for preaparing dessert for their FLoor. One can FIND a wide variety of desserts from all over the world.
