Celebrates Grandparents
I survived! I should have a t shirt printed with that saying. I just got home from taking care of my two precious grandchildren (ages 2 1/2 and 5 months old) for several days so their parents could go on a vacation. I find it amusing that I am focusing on celebrating Grandparents Day when I am practically brain-dead, covered with bruises I got from I don’t know where, and carrying extra pounds from all the popsicles I consumed as a means of bribing our grandson to cooperate.

But guess what? I would do it all over again—after a long nap. There is something akin to pure magic that happens the moment that grandchild comes into your life. It is the best perk of aging! Rolling Green Village celebrates grandparents. We are committed to creating a community where grandparents thrive. Laura L. Carstensen, a professor at Stanford Centre for Longevity, says in her book A LONG
BRIGHT FUTURE, “Life expectancy is ballooning just as science and technology are on the cusp of solving many of the practical problems of aging. What if we could not only have added years but spend them being physically fit, mentally sharp, functionally independent, and financially secure? At that point, we no longer have a story about old age. We have a story about long life.” This is exactly what Rolling Green Village provides. You will live is a community where activities and opportunities abound to keep you mentally and physically fit and independent. At the same time, Rolling Green Village provides health care options should you need them. I hope you enjoy the pictures and stories from our residents and their families. Don’t stop there; come check us out. We have a lot of exciting news to share. When you come, be sure to bring pictures of your grandchildren.
With warm wishes,
Ruth Wood
Marketing Director for Rolling Green Village
“Grandpas are just as good as a dad! Why is this, you may ask? Well, because my mother already broke him in! This isn’t his first time.” ~Mady, 13 years old
“I have great memories of taking naps
with Grandpa when I was little and I would hug his belly and feel his heart beat. I loved the feeling of his hands over mine when he washed by hands before supper. I loved it when he gave me “whisker jobs,“ and it would tickle my face and make me laugh.” ~Daphne, 13 years old
“The old are the precious gem in the center of the household.” ~A Chinese Proverb

“Nobody ever once told her that she had to adopt my brother, sister and me. Nowhere did she ever sign the contract saying she would push me forward with all the encouragement and love her tired heart could muster up. She didn’t refuse to give up on me no matter how many times I broke her trust and faith in me. She chose to love me unconditionally.” ~Kayla, 17 years old
“One time Granddad took me a Father-Daughter dance and taught me the twist!” ~Elizabeth, 10 years old
“A 6 year-old was asked where his grandma lived. “Oh,” he said, “she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go and get her. Then, when we’re done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.”” ~Daniel, 6 years old
