Keeping It Real THE FUNKIER SIDE OF FESTIVITIES
The holidays should be spent posing for the perfect photo op, right? Wrong! ’Tis the season for laughing, crying, eating too much, dancing too hard, and leaving behind a wrapping-paper trail. So the next time you’re tempted to throw out those pictures that didn’t quite make it into the holiday card, take a step back and look at them in a new light: little glimpses of life as it really is—not perfectly packaged, but marvelously messy.

A Memorable Thanksgiving by Terri Davenport. Digital Supplies: Software: Adobe; Frames, kits, and stickers: Katie Pertiet; Font: Arial.
There’s no use crying over spilled batter. Picky eaters and pancake mix might have meant a catastrophic Thanksgiving dinner for Terri Davenport, but it also made one very memorable holiday. When disaster strikes—whether it’s a charcoal turkey or burnt-out Christmas lights—don’t forget to pull out your camera and document your favorite seasonal calamities. You might be surprised how all the messes, tears, and mayhem can make inspiration strike!

Get started on your December Daily well in advance —say, after the Thanksgiving hubbub has died down, like Jing-Jing Nickel did. To make capturing your favorite holiday memories as easy as pie, create a readymade album with all the trims and embellishments already attached.
Design a basic layout for each page and add all your stickers, decorative tape, and bling. Make sure to designate a spot for photos and journaling so all you have to do is adhere them into place!

Groups: big or small, we like them all If your family’s small, take advantage of the fact that there aren’t too many to manage with a fun on-location photo shoot. Find a brightly colored wall in your neighborhood and try different poses for a relaxed, personality-filled photo.

Digital Inspiration to Traditional Creation When you’re inspired to scraplift, it can be by a certain embellishment or technique, a color combination, or just about anything on the page. Digital accents are fun and colorful, but they don’t exist on store shelves for the traditional scrapbooker to gobble up. Re-create the accent using a paintbrush or stamps for a one-of-a-kind touch.

Traditional tree decor can be tricky to use, so cut it up and display it in small doses, like the center of a holiday flower. A scatter of trendy sequins can add even more wow factor, making a bold splash against a neutral background. This glistening touch is less messy than glitter and is a great way to add flow to your layout.
