When creating seasonal pages, don’t be afraid to play with color! Add a powerful punch of powder blue and rich navy to your traditional orange and black color scheme for a more modern and fresh take on Halloween.

1920s From flappers to speakeasies and the Harlem Renaissance to the Charleston, the 1920s were all about celebrating being alive, young, and free. The styles and fashions of this era reflect a society torn between the lace and pearls of old and the daring feathers and lipstick of the rising generation.

To give this lovely layout a 1920s vibe, Stacy Cohen altered her photos to reflect the grayscale in the typewriter photo. Stacy also translated the colors from the boa and shoes

onto her layout in the form of elegant flowers and patterned papers. Like the 1920s decade, Stacy’s layout hints at the old world with a script background, pearls, and doilies.

Timeless Beauty by Stacy Cohen. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; Patterned paper: DCWV Inc., Graphic 45, and Prima; Stickers: American Crafts and Graphic 45; Decorative tape, owers, leaves, and wood veneer: Prima; Chipboard: Graphic 45; Rhinestones: Queen & Co.; Pins: Maya Road; Brads: Making Memories; Ink: Clearsnap; Paint: Ranger Industries; Punch: EK Success; Die-cutting machine and dies: Sizzix; Font: Typenoksidi; Adhesive: Beacon Adhesives, EK Success, and Tombow; Other: Lace.

Hole reinforcement labels

Reinforcement labels, like the ones Shelley Aldridge used on her page, are perfect for adding a trendy geometric feel to your layout. Use this office supply to create a unique background by simply layering sheets of the labels in a clustered area.

Variation Spray ink over a sheet of labels, and then lift sheet off of layout to create a funky background.

Playful by Shelley Aldridge. Supplies: Hole reinforcement labels: Office Depot; Patterned paper: BasicGrey; Tags: Avery and Office Depot; Envelope: Staples; Stickers: Martha Stewart Crafts; Adhesive: Therm O Web; Other: Baker’s twine, butterfly clips, decorative tape, masking tape, paper clips, and staples.

Mix labels with other office supplies like masking tape and notebook paper to mat a series of photos for a too-cool-for-school look.
