Center of production and expression of art University final project

The city is a witness of the production of great magnitude artistic events. I was asked to design a Cultural Center aimed not only for art exhibition but also for art production. I decided to design a building that produces its own art and show it to the community, making visitors participate of the productive process. A flexible building open to public space.

It is located in an area of big warehouses, factories and markets, in the middle of a residential neighborhood with a commercial zone, in front of an antique fair and a public park. The morphology of the building follows an industrial typology, and is situated beside a pedestrian block, creating a dry public square between the market and the park.

The Ground floor (1rst level) has a direct entrance from the dry park, used for big expositions, projections and different cultural events. Underneath the dry square, the audiovisual, editing and photography workshops are located due to their need of low light and sound isolation. Large screens project on the ground floor what is being produced below, giving the possibility of an open cinema and outdoor audiovisual activities.

The building is organized in three levels, a terrace and an underground. The auditorium and the conference halls that received huge amounts of visitors are located in the ground floor and first floor, together with the workshops that need more space for machine manipulation. The exhibition rooms are located in the second floor, taking profit of natural light and offering a quite atmosphere for art contemplation. There is also a rooftop available for massive happenings and urban scale expositions.

Nowadays, events do not have a definite scale. Cities must be prepared not only for mega events but also for small ones. Moreover, the user is the main character of architecture development and art improvement. This demands architecture to accompany and encourage these cultural changes. In order to be flexible, the building can adjust its scale according to each event needs. It is a building with a large human-architectural scale, but medium to urban level. Therefore, when it receives giant artistic events, its scale turns out to be a medium building to urban scale.

The section shows how the building is open to public space, and the relation that have with the park and the city. From the outside, the visitors can see what is going on inside, and feel part of the events.

H22 | Urban utopia University final project in urbanism

Cities as a reflection of societies (and vice versa) We were asked to design a new city out of nothing on an existing and abandoned land. We imagine a city of the upcoming century with technologically evolved citizens and more engaged with their community.

outside the capital city. We plan a connectivity strategy in order to bond different relevant points of the existing city and promote the free circulation and exchange of people and goods. These points are: • The main airport to the South • The border with Uruguay, to the North • The commercial port to the Northwest

The citizen

Human of the future The H22 is not product of an artificial intelligence system. Instead, it is a balanced human being that believes in the ideal of a progressive culture, which cares about the development of the common wealth.

A new city focused on vertical growth and vertical connections The existing ground floor allows the inflow and outflow of products to the new city. At the same time, it can be used as a product warehouse as well as a manufacturing and mobility center of capsules. The remaining land is a green field of crop production. Both, the infrastructure of services and waste handling, have a vertical perspective in sealed pipes, operating not only as a structure of the city but also as an alternative of vertical circulation. Pedestrians can travel around the city through bridges and lifts organized from the transfer centers, generating streets for multiple usages within the city.

Transport and connection

All the elements in the city are developed in height and occupy a minimum space on the ground floor. Smart infrastructure connects the entire city, creating new ground levels in height as well as green spaces for recreation.

Site Landmark International architecture ideas competition

Contemplation is a dramatic gesture of reflection. Site Landmark was an open competition for young architects and the challenge was to generate ideas for the design of a new destination point on a site promontory in Sagres, Algarve, at the South of Portugal. The intervention should emphasizes, respects and celebrates the site while age with the landscape and engage with it.

Contemplation is a dramatic gesture of reflection. An observation with care and the passivity of reality. Contemplating is to connect and being connected. A communion with yourself, where the connection is not only visual but also physical. Being sensitive to the environment implies respecting it and interacting with it. We understand that the context in its natural wild state, framed in the vastness of the landscape, highlights its dramatic side, in a composition of different elements that establish a whole. We interpret the landscape as a staging where natural elements are works of art to behold. We detect the elements of the location, and we operate with them to generate different contexts of contemplation.

The building, long and linear, such as the fortifications of the coast, understands this monumental relationship of the landscape and it merges with it. It’s walls intensifies the view and it filters the sensations that it himself generates. These are the complement the wall needs to redefine itself again. Each of these elements are framed in different sectors, allowing one to experience them in their full depth and maximum level. It is the contrast of a single-material, smooth and strong, which highlights the simplicity of nature. The concrete stains with ocean salts. Plants grow between the stones. The wind lifts the weak ground floor. The waves crash against the cliff. A pure volume condenses those feelings, it understands the passage of time and the aging with it, in its best material sincerity.

Apartment renovation Reorganizing the house of a busy career woman

Ariadna is an early forty lawyer, single and busy woman, that travels frequently because of work and business. She was looking for a ordered space, warm and pleasant, that makes her feel happy when she comes home. I decided to take advantage of disused spaces to generate new ones as well as clean the whole apartment state. I searched a personal style for her, combining new furniture with the existing one. The construction work started a month and a half ago and is about to end. In the meantime, Ariadna is very anxious to return to her new home after a long day of work!

Context Buenos Aires City, November 2016. One room apartment, 2nd floor. 36m2 Client: Woman of medium age, busy lawyer.

The apartment had, on the one hand, some unused spaces, and on the other hand, badly organized and dark lighted ones. My client wanted to have a living room separated from the dining room. In this way, she could be able to eat and work in the dining room and watch TV and spend her spare time in the living room. Besides, there was an internal balcony, dark and without use, aside the living room and laundry. In the bedroom, the bed was under a large wardrobe, that my client wanted to remove even though she wanted to keep a storage space. We improved the space in the bedroom, enhancing its brightness with a nice balcony.

Initial situation

Our work vision was traduced in working side-by-side with the customer so as to define the style, luminosity, furniture, textures and colors of our intervention. We had to create warm and pleasant spaces, suiting her old furniture into a modern style.

After: bedroom, internal balcony and laundry

Looking for a furniture style

To get a better understanding of what she was looking for, we used Pinterest to find a furniture style that fitted her taste. In this search, we shared and discussed many images and various options together. This led to a specific direction, which I used as an input to design the new furniture. After some proposals, discarding modern and minimalist styles, we came across the romantic style that was a perfect fit for her personality and aesthetic preferences.

Design proposal and redistribution

The 3D modeling of the apartment and furniture allowed the client to visualize the whole proposal. She was able to imagine how her house would really look like after the intervention. This resulted in a great step to go forward with enthusiasm.

Before

After

During the construction, she had to move to another city because of her work, so I was responsible not only for directing the work but also for details and unpredicted events that appeared.

I like to experiment with different materials, technics and computer programs, in order to study forms, fast visual proposal for a client o just for fun. I find it interesting breaking limits in architecture, making it more interesting for architectural and non-architectural public to get involved through showing gifs and videos, stimulating the collective imagination.

Creating space through an unknown image

The exercise consisted on continuing the image of an unknown building and trying to imagine the whole construction. First, I made the model following phenomenological sensation and then I made a rigorous observation trying to copy construction details.

I believe I got something

SOMETHING [ALGO in Spanish] searches for artistic-architectonic productions that we think when creating architecture. Has as its objective motivate, potentiate, and show the “somethings we generate consciously or unconsciously when we design. SOMETHING was created in September 2016 in the context of a university design course by the architects Soledad Lanus and Clara Serenellini.

Something is nothing if nobody sees it.
