MacMarket Day springs to life in January The new year of 2020 brings a Clarence Valley event which is not to be missed. The annual MacMarket Day in Maclean falls on Saturday January 4. This popular summer drawcard day attracts an enormous crowd of thousands of locals and visitors to Maclean just for the day. Organised by the local Lions Club of Maclean and our 2020 sponsors, Essential Energy, Ritchies IGA Fine Food and Wine Merchants and Clarence Valley Council, MacMarket Day springs to life at 8am and runs until 1pm. Come early and stroll through more than 85
stalls running the length of River Street in the heart of Maclean's CBD. Many of Maclean's local businesses will be open, and who knows, you may be able to pick up a worthwhile bargain. Christmas present shopping maybe over for the family, so now its time to shop for oneself, pampering the tired post-Christmas you. Better still, bring along the whole family for a morning of fun. Children and adults who look forward to a new year's look, “20:20 vision” are welcome to join in the face-painting fun! Clarence Valley events are never the same without the sound of bag-pipes and Scottish dances. The Maclean and Districts Pipe Band will also be performing up and down the street at various times in the morning; should you have your tartans on, “hey, ho, and away we go, bonny laddie, hielan' laddie” you may dance
along to some popular tunes. Other featured entertainment includes dancing performances by the Maclean Scottish Dance Centre troupe. Be on the look-out too for other live street entertainers who may serenade or enthral you and lend to the festivity of the MacMarkets morning. This year we bring you food stalls with different mouth-watering international street food; the exotic, the organic, the biodynamic and very down-to-earth Aussie burgers and sausages. For the adventurous palate, this is foodie paradise. Some of us may wish to browse and be lost in a greener paradise, so visit our stalls where there are plants, ferns, shrubs and trees which is just the place to purchase our favourite natives, perennials or bi-annuals. No matter which
stall is your favourite, there is something to keep you entertained for the whole morning. A perfect place to spend your Saturday morning on the 4th January 2020. If that’s not perspective I don’t know what is. Some schools are now closed for up to seven weeks and boredom often sets in just after Christmas. Whilst the internet and social media is a great place to research our “list of to do thingsâ€? this Christmas, I hope I inspire [QW KP VJKU CTVKENG VQ VCMG C OQOGPV QHĆƒKPG to connect and be present in the lives of those you love. Here is a snap shot of things to do these holidays.
Holiday Fun
1.
Explore a new park or neighbourhood. The Clarence Valley Council has recently opened and upgraded several parks across the valley. The newest ‘Jacaranda Park’, Prince Street Grafton, opens this December and when completed, the huge climbing tower and pirate ship are sure to be a hit and the park has plenty of new and exciting play experiences‌ worth a visit to Grafton even if you don’t live there.
2.
Head to the library, BORROW a book. Reading strengthens our brains and builds new connections, so you can never be bored if you have a book in your hand. Reading is a great way to spend time together whether hanging in the library or in a hammock. Reading helps teach our children empathy and about the world around us‌ it may be holidays but that doesn’t mean we need to stop learning.

Whilst we know it’s still dry we do have an abundance of glorious river, beach and pool options still available to us without wasting our precious resource. Pack some fresh bread from your local bakery, order some hot chips and introduce the kids to a good old sandy tomato sauce and chip sandwich. Slap on the sunscreen, pop on a hat and enjoy the simplest of summer fun. 2CEM VJG ĆƒQCVKGU DQF[ DQCTFU CPF C RKEPKE DCUMGV Ć‚NNGF YKVJ HTQ\GP HTWKVU KE[ poppers. Grafton, South Grafton, Maclean and Yamba all have wonderful pool facilities, not to mention the iconic Yamba ocean pool so make a splash this summer. On January 12 there is a sandcastle building competition Main Beach Yamba Family games nights. Pop the corn and pull out the old fashion board and card games. Is there any thing better than a good old family holiday competition? Need inspiration UNO, Boggle, Charades, Pictionary, Twister and the popular again Jenga are all-available at your local Big W or Target stores‌ so who will be crowned the family games night champion? Freeze your own icy poles. There is nothing better than an ice block on a hot day and for the kids there is nothing better than making them too. Cut up fresh fruit and combine with your favourite fresh juices or soda. My family favourites include strawberries in pineapple juice, blueberries and raspberries in apple and blackcurrant juice, frozen yogurt and jelly. Visit your local art gallery, get inspired. Grafton Regional Gallery has a jam packed kids holiday offering catering for all ages have fun these holidays making your own colourful theatre masks, designing your own skate decks, learning the fundamentals of creating spray paint stencils or get creative cutting and pasting a collage with Jaz Grady. Check out www.eventbrite.com.au for booking times and more details. Check out your local PCYC, District Services or Bowls Club and Shopping Centres for holiday entertainment. It sounds boring but nothing beats starting the New Year in a fresh space and if done together it is a real bonding experience. This activity shows your child your interested in their growth and environment. This is also a great opportunity to donate any unused or outgrown items to those less fortunate. Watch a sunrise together with all members of your family. Plan a time to watch a sunrise together, as a family. The sunrise may only last a few moments but I can assure you this is something you will all remember for the rest of your life. Every day we are alive we are blessed with this spectacle, yet rarely do we witness the miracle of it as most of us are still asleep. A sunrise, particularly a beach or hinterland one is a beauty beyond words, it energises, inspires and gives hope. I can’t think of anything more positive to do these holidays. ; QW ECP GCUKN[ Ć‚PF TKUKPI VKOGU QPNKPG YKVJ OCP[ RJQPG CRRU EJQQUG C XKGYKPI location, somewhere that you can easily observe the horizon. Yeshiva been to Jerusalem; where’s the camphor laurel? GEOFF HELISMA things up, unsettling the crowd, talking about prejudice, talking about intolerance, talking about the lack of education, talking about the importance of education, talking about multiculturalism. GH: Do you think your kind of satire educates, even though it normally speaks loudest to those who share your outlook and goes over the heads or is challenged by those who don’t agree? SG: You can’t take that into account. You just do it. Some people hate your guts and a lot of people scream or throw things, or they punch me or wait in the car park for me. I’ve had to run away from thousands of bloody shows. My show has never really been politically incorrect; it’s just been forcefully satirical and aggressively poignant. I think a lot of people just miss the point. For instance, I talk about Aboriginal people and I say, ‘I’m very down on them, because they got us into gambling, domestic violence and alcohol and it’s time they apologise to us for, you know, for f@%*ing our lives up.’ Something like that is very strong and some people, ‘Err you’re a f@%*ing racist!’ But that’s just rubbish ... it’s completely the wrong reading of my show ... completely. GH: Is anything sacred? SG: Well... not really; it just depends on which perspective you take. A lot of people say [he adopts his comedic voice], ‘You can’t do that to the Aboriginal people.’ But you can do it in a very positive way and hopefully people understand what you’re talking about. These are decent people; they’ve got a great sense of humour, a great sense of family, they’re very sophisticated in their song line thing. Australia is a very prejudiced country. I say in my show, ‘Prejudice used to be right on the surface when I was growing up, but now it’s just a little bit under the surface.’ All of the people that go on about how, you know, inclusive they are, well it’s bullshit, mate. “I’ve been doing this job for 40 years, I think I’ve done every room in the country; I do have to go to different places, [but] a lot of them don’t want me back because they’re too scared of me,â€? says Alexander ‘Sandy’ Jacob Gutman, aka Austen Tayshus. Come January 10, Gutman and outrageous north coast comedian Mandy Nolan will be midtour performing their ÓäÓä 6ÂˆĂƒÂˆÂœÂ˜ show at the Saraton Theatre, Grafton. GH: Does your main calling card, the Billy Birmingham-written Australiana, give you the shits when journalists ask you about it? SG: Not really; Ć‚Ă•ĂƒĂŒĂ€>Â?ˆ>˜> was something we developed collaboratively ... [but] it starts to give me the shits after a while [adopts a nasal sneering voice], ‘Ooh, Billy Birmingham wrote that!’ But I don’t mind doing it ... it obviously gave me a huge lift. I was working in rock and roll ... in front of the biggest bands in the country, doing stand-up before introducing them; Men at Work, Chisel, Angels, Mi-Sex, Mental as #P[VJKPI GVEGVGTC +V YCU XGT[ FKHĆ‚EWNV HQT OG too; because sometimes I would be working at midnight trying to do stand-up to drunken f@*&wits. GH: Perhaps that helped develop your confrontational style? SG: Yeah, absolutely; it was very much a part of that aggressive style that came out of that ... just getting people to shut up and listen. \ ĂŚĂƒ > ÂŁx‡Þi>Ă€Â‡ÂœÂ?`] ĂžÂœĂ• wÂ˜ÂˆĂƒÂ…i` ˆ˜ ĂŒÂ…i ĂŒÂœÂŤ wĂ›i ˆ˜ >˜ ÂˆÂ˜ĂŒiĂ€Â˜>ĂŒÂˆÂœÂ˜>Â? shiva (a school dedicated to studying traditional religious texts) ... did you lose your religion? SG: No, no, not at all [said with genuine intent]. In fact, I’m much stronger with it at the moment, as there is a worldwide rise in anti-Semitism. It’s a very important time to be proud of being Jewish. I get people yelling anti-Semitic comments at me during my shows – but I couldn’t care less. My father was a survivor of the Holocaust ... the resonance goes right through my life and my work. GH: You were an Australian Sex Party candidate in the August 2010 federal election ... tell me how you came to be a sex expert? SG: [Laughs] Nobody thinks I’m an expert. Robbie Swan, who’s the head of the Sex Party, used to be the editor of >ĂŒÂˆÂ?`> magazine and I did few gigs for him in the ’80s. We’ve been friends ever since. They were into civil rights; they were pushing for a royal commission into child sexual abuse, which I strongly supported. GH: The Q & A website says you are “a personality destined to wage war against authority, racism, and institutional dogmaâ€?... are you winning? SG: I don’t think it’s a battle easily won; it’s a continuous thing, so I keep bringing up all of these issues. My particular thing is ‘tolerance’, so I’ve done a lot of stuff with Aboriginal people. I made a record called ˆ}Â…Ăœ>Ăž ÂœĂ€Ă€ÂœLÂœĂ€ii (1988) – it was very funny, but too powerful to be too successful. It was all about reconciliation and the decency of the Aboriginal people and the bad behaviour of the white man, which is continuing. GH: You are renowned for your quick wit, improvisational skills and comedic humiliation of audience members ... what’s your take on how the Australian Government’s keeping the public informed? SG: Well, um ... that’s a good question. Look, people in this country are very ill-informed; that’s been a part of my agenda, to be constantly lifting the bar, you know, really shaking

and a sassy streak
Singer, songwriter and DJ Kate Fox blends genres and blurs the lines of commercial, classics and hidden treasures and rolls them into a seamless, main room performance. Her triple threat status mines the musical depths, from the very core of bass driven, party drops to tempting pop-house infused vocal taint. Fox’s signature sassy streak incorporates house, vocal and pop elements, with just enough speed and energy to keep enthusiasts charmed. Carrying on her desire to deliver music to the masses, Fox has graced Platinum Gold Coast, Sydney’s Ministry of Sound Club and Zouk Nightclub in Malaysia and more recently three nights at Its The Ship in Singapore. Fox is supported by Blakey and Sean McCarthy at the Yamba Shores Tavern on New Year’s Eve – tickets are on sale at the tavern.

Deep grooves intertwine with harmonies and melodies ... sometimes crooning, sometimes intense – but always leaving the crowd wanting more. King River Rising – often compared to artists such as Sublime, John Mayor and Groundation – vow to leave no stone unturned as the hard-gigging group steps outside of its Melbourne environs to share their eccentric, eclectic and captivating sound across the nation’s east coast. Ride like kings of the river with King River Rising at the Pacific Hotel on Tuesday January 7.

Living in the ’80s
Kaleidoscopical!
Big hair, big hits and big fun; sounds like the ’80s doesn’t it? “There's no other decade like the ’80s,” says the group dedicated to the decade, Never Ending ’80s. “We’ll take you back to the best of it all with a show packed full of the biggest hits by the biggest artists.” Well, maybe not the biggest artists, but certainly the best artists. The band expertly carves its way through the music of Prince, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, INXS, Bon
Jovi, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, as well as many other giants. The vibe created means that there is nothing else to do except sing along and dance. 6JGTGoNN DG PQ ƂIJVKPI HQT [QWT right to party; so come on, get FTGUUGF WR KP [QWT ƂPGUV o U IGCT and party like it’s 1989 at the Yamba Bowling Club on Friday January 10. The Lawrence Tavern Restaurant is open 6pm-8pm seven days, serving Australian fare and great pub food and they have a great kids menu and will serve smaller portion adults meals if requested. Daily specials incorporating local produce are a feature; check out their chicken bacon camembert… it’s a local favourite. Or for something a little more simpler, Tuesday is burger night and Thursday is the favourite with a $10 schnitzel night. The restaurant is licenced of course and the Taylors range of ƂPG #WUVTCNKCP YKPGU JGCFU VJG wine list. Why not come along at 6pm on Friday for ‘cocktail night’? With sweeping views of the Clarence River, Lawrence Tavern Restaurant has it all…. with a great family atmosphere and a country feel, where locals and visitors feel welcome. Lawrence Tavern Restaurant – winner of a best pub grub award in 2018.
BRUSHGROVE HOTEL
The 151 year old Brushgrove Hotel is an institution
Brushgrove Pub - traditional pub grub with a classier feel. The ‘Brushy Pub’ as it is affectionately know by the locals is a great place to sit back and relax around other visitors or the locals. The restaurant is open 12pm2pm for lunch and 6pm-8pm for dinner. There is a great indoor restaurant, or perhaps you would prefer to dine at one of the huge wooden table bench seats (undercover of course) along the front of the hotel. Kids are welcome and the third dinning option has the youngsters in mind as mum and dad site in the large area overlooking the river whilst the kids can run around on the grass. There is an every changing menu with some of the best pub food [QW YKNN ƂPF CNQPI VJG %NCTGPEG and again, children are very well catered for. Being a pub, licencing is not an issue and Australian made Taylor wines head the comprehensive wine list.

THE ROASTERY The warm heart of the business
The Botero Coffee Roastery is located in the village of Maclean overlooking the majestic Clarence River. It is housed in a beautiful historic building that began life as Sheehan’s mechanical workshop in the 1940s, and has evolved throughout the years as businesses came and went. By the time Botero had acquired the building it was in much need of some love. Mr O’Connor and his wife Nicole have been overwhelmed with the support of the local community. “We’ve talked about this for a number of years now and we’ve always had a passion for beer and handcrafted goodness. With the recent infrastructure growth in the area with the roads and the highway, it’s seen a lot of different types of people moving to the area and the response since we opened our doors in September has been overwhelming he added. The journey to opening the doors was a two year process, with a nine-month construction stage to refurbish the former industrial bus shelter. “Early on it was all about developing the brand and that is all about our love of the Clarence Valley. We want people to come to God’s country and take a little slice of heaven away with them, said Nicole.

You can soak up all this beauty when you stay at one of the luxury holiday units, grab a delicious meal or coffee from the local cafĂŠ/store or take some time to browse through the local art and craft boutique shop. In the 1960s, Angourie became famous as
one of the best pointbreaks in Australia and is often visited by the world’s best surfers. If you’ve never surfed before, try one of the local surf schools to get some expert instruction. While the famous Angourie point-breaks sweeps onto rocks and can be dangerous for inexperienced board riders, there are many kilometres of open beaches surrounding Angourie. Iluka's early history COL HENNESSY
Iluka has long been regarded as the ‘dress circle of the Lower Clarence’ and for good reason. While it may not be the tourist hub, its quieter attractions are a real boon for visitors north of the area who are looking for just that contrast. Iluka owes its history to the construction at the northern side of the river training scheme at the river mouth. Matthew Flinders did not even see the river proper when he came by, listing it as Shoal Bay such was the scene spread out in front of him. The mighty Clarence is indeed the largest river on the east coast of Australia south of the tropic of Capricorn. In the late 19th century river transport was everything and the building of the river entrance walls was the equivalent of what is going on VQFC[ YKVJ VJG 2CEKĆ‚E *KIJYC[
and at a similar cost comparatively. There have been a number of schemes devised to best utilise the river currents and tides to keep the river mouth open without constant dredging or shipwrecks. Engineers from NSW government departments even visited Egypt and the mouth of the Nile river to see what worked best. When work started they were able to use rocks blasted from headlands north of the river and an intricate system of rail lines transported the quarry rocks down to the river. Remnants of these lines can still be seen in bushwalks that adjoin the pathway from town to the beach. Improvements and expansion of these walls continued till 1971 so essentially these works were in place for almost a hundred years.
Iluka’s small population and rather remote location came about because it is essentially a peninsular (almost an island) surrounded by ocean beaches, the river itself and world heritage rainforest. Up until the mid-sixties you had to catch three different ferries to get to Iluka and that was just from Yamba or Maclean. The ƂTUV ETQUUKPI YCU CV *CTYQQF adjacent to the bridge. Then there was another ferry from the northern end of Chatsworth island to Goodwood Island and ƂPCNN[ VQ +NWMC YJGTG nVJG QNF ferry crossing’ park area is. The current entrance to Iluka (past the golf course) only came about when the bridge over the Esk river was opened in 1964. This coincided with the peak of the sand mining when rutile was transported north to the Tweed area.
Today a series of historical interpretive signs welcome visitors to the town. They have been erected by the Iluka History Group and their museum is open Wednesday and Friday morning where you can see much more on FKURNC[ DWV RCTVKEWNCTN[ VJG TKXGT UEJGOGU CPF VJG Ć‚UJKPI industry. Maclean was laid out in 1862 and named after the surveyor-general Alexander Grant McLean by the Grafton Commissioner for Lands, W. A. B. Greaves. While many of the early settlers along the Clarence were farmers from the Highlands of Scotland there were also many Irish and German settlers. Maclean was declared a municipality in 1887 and become a shire in 1957.

Your Horoscope for 2020 Here’s a quick look at some of the major planetary movements in 2020. Then you can read the individual forecasts for all 12 zodiac signs below ‌
For most of ²0²0 Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto transit through the practical, productive and professional sign of Capricorn. So it’s not a year to do things in a half-hearted or amateurish fashion. Governments, politicians, banks and corporations that take short cuts or are dishonest will be caught out and penalised in very public ways. Plus new laws will be brought in to regulate financial institutions and aged-care facilities, and to tame big tech global giants like Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon.
Uranus continues its transit through Taurus. Uranus is the planet of revolutions, disruptions, shocks and changes; whereas Taurus rules money, the economy, banks and material possessions. So prepare for financial, real estate and stock market volatility in ²0²0, which could result in a global recession. In December ²0²0 Jupiter and Saturn transit into Aquarius, the sign of freedom, equality and humanity, which will usher in a progressive mini Age of Aquarius. Š JOANNE MADELINE MOORE 2019

Passionate Mars fires up your sexuality zone in early January. Singles – you’ll feel extra frisky in January and April, as you flirt up a storm and circulate in style. So it’s a terrific time to host a party, go on a blind date, join a singles club or look for love online. If you are attached, January and December are super months to travel with your sweetheart. But your libido takes a temporary tumble from mid-September to mid-November when Mars, your power planet, turns retrograde.
May 13 until June 25 will be a difficult period for love, when your ruler Venus is retrograde. Be especially careful around June 5-6, when the Lunar Eclipse could exacerbate an existing problem. Attached Bulls - you may feel as if your relationship is stalling or even going backwards. Singles – suitable suitors will be thin on the ground around this time. August is a wonderful month to escape on a romantic weekend getaway with your sweetheart. Singles - get circulating in your local community in August, because true love could be as close as the boy or girl next door!
2020 will work well if you alternate solo projects with joint ventures. So do your best to get the balance right between being an independent Gemini gadfly and having satisfying relationships. Attached twins - January and April favour cosy companionship and pampering your partner, so plan something special. Unhappily single? The best months to search for your soul mate are January when love, work and travel are linked, plus April and August. Communicating with your sweetheart or a potential partner will be complicated between October 28 and November 4, when your ruler Mercury reverses through your romance zone.
2020 will be a year of extremes as Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all transit through your relationship zone. Some attached Crabs will finally get engaged or married, while others end an unsatisfactory union or finalise a divorce. Singles – look for a long-term partner who has a good sense of humour but is also reliable and mature. The most romantic days of the year are July 27 and October 12 when Jupiter and Neptune promise magical moments and lashings of love. But don’t do anything major like propose, get married or initiate a breakup between May 13 and June 25, when Venus is retrograde.
.116 .7%With Uranus moving through your money zone, finances will be erratic in 2020. So when cash is coming in, make sure you squirrel it away to tide you over when unexpected expenses appear and the budget is tight. January is the best month to kick-start an entrepreneurial enterprise or a joint venture, and March is the luckiest month for making extra moolah, landing a promotion or winning a competition. In late July, you’ll be given a golden opportunity to take your career in a creative new direction. .+('56;.'
.116 .7%Resist the compelling urge to spend extra cash from May 13 until June 25 when indulgent Venus reverses through your money zone. In uncertain economic times, business-savvy Bulls should concentrate on thrifty shopping, smart saving and sustainable living. Luckiest days are January 23, March 28-29 and December 14-15, when good fortune planet Jupiter links up with your ruler Venus and you’ll look and feel fabulous. .+('56;.'
Plan a holiday or weekend escape for early June, when the lunar eclipse lights up your travel, adventure and adrenalin zone. But you need to take things easy from September 9 until November 14, when your ruler Mars is retrograde. This can be a very frustrating time when self-criticism is high, energy is low, projects stall and you feel like you’re going backwards. So make sure you slow down, reassess, recalibrate, be kind to yourself and try to relax.
Uranus is romping through your sign, so it’s time for risk-adverse Bulls to jump out of your comfort zone and venture into exciting new territory! Experiment and explore, as you do something daringly different or go on a grand adventure. If you are too entrenched in your old lifestyle and don’t make necessary changes voluntarily, then Uranus will stir things up and throw a curved ball in your direction. With Jupiter jumping through your adventure zone, travel beckons – especially in January, late March and August.

Courtesy of lucky Jupiter, in 2020 you could benefit from a favour, freebie, inheritance, bumper tax return, divorce settlement or superannuation payout. But, with miserly Saturn and penny-pinching Pluto also in your ‘money from others’ zone, you could also encounter delayed payments, tax issues, legal problems, unexpected extra expenses or budget blow-outs. Separating your wants from your needs is a must as smart twins get thrifty, cut excess consumption, and learn to get by on less.
With Saturn moving through your joint finances zone from March 22 until July 2, you need to make sure that loans, contracts, wills, work agreements, tax returns and retirement plans are organised by a qualified person. If you take cheap short cuts or do things yourself, then it could backfire on you later. The period between September 9 and November 14 is not a good time to launch a business, apply for a promotion or look for a job, as Mars reverses through your career zone.
.+('56;.' Best days are January 2, May 10 and August 29, when generous Jupiter boosts your natural charm, people skills and party-loving nature. But fun and games will be in short supply when Venus reverses through your sign from May 13 until June 25 and you have to deal with a slump in your social life, a financial shortfall or an unresolved relationship problem. You’ll have to make an important personal decision around the time of the Lunar Eclipse on November 30, so consider carefully and choose wisely. .18' .756 Expect some challenges in 2020 as Saturn and two eclipses stir up your relationship zones. Single Lions – expect a few disasters before you find your dream lover. Don’t give up though – each dating disappointment will lead you closer to your soul mate. Attached Cats – plan a romantic weekend escape with your sweetheart between January 1 and February 15, when Venus boosts your fiery sensuality and lust for life. But things could come to a dramatic head around June 5-6, when the lunar eclipse shines an unforgiving light on a frustrating problem. .116 .7%Good fortune and hard work are linked. With Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all powering through your daily routine zone, there’s no escaping diligence and detailed work in 2020! Money matters look OK, if you are realistic about your financial situation and budget accordingly. .+('56;.' In 2020 there are three eclipses in your humanitarian zones. So you’ll find the more you reach out and help others, the happier you’ll be. The best days for altruistic endeavours are January 10-11, June 21 and November 30. And February is a wonderful month to welcome an adorable new pet into your Lion’s den! Singles – you could discover your perfect match while travelling; be attracted to someone from another country or culture; find true love with a wise teacher; or a long-term platonic friendship could take a surprisingly romantic detour! But there will still be challenges along the way, and make sure you’re not viewing your partner or potential partner through decidedly rose-coloured glasses.

But avoid making important financial decisions like applying for a loan, buying a house or signing a contract when your ruler Mercury is retrograde from February 17-March 10, June 18-July12 and October 14-November 4.
Expect a financial rollercoaster ride in 2020! Venus which rules love and money turns retrograde, plus unpredictable Uranus and retrograde Mercury stir up your $$$ zones. With Venus and Mars reversing through your relationship zones from May 13 until June 25 and from September 9 until November 14 it will be a bumpy road to lasting love. If you are attached, aim to get the balance right between committed coupledom and invigorating independence. If you leave your partner on their own too often, they could go looking for attention elsewhere. Singles - the best months to meet your soul mate are in late July, early August and December, when your fiery charm attracts admirers from near and far. Be patient because it will be worth the wait!
The lunar eclipse on January 10-11 heralds a dramatic year for love. Attached Caps – January is a fabulous time to travel with your partner. But your romantic life looks rocky from June 18 until July 12, when Mercury reverses through your partnership zone and communication goes haywire. So it’s not an ideal time to make important decisions about matters of the heart. Singles – midJune to mid-July is not a good time to look for love online or go on a first date. Instead, be patient and wait for the romantic sparks to fly in August, when Venus visits your relationship zone.
Relationships will mostly be ‘steady as she goes’ in 2020, which could be an issue for adrenaline addicted Aquarians! If you are attached, do all you can to reboot a stale partnership or fix a frustrating problem. If you allow boredom and complacency to set in, then it won’t be long before you’re heading out the door. An established or burgeoning relationship could temporarily run off the rails sometime between May 13 and June 25, when Venus reverses through your romance zone. With some extra diplomacy, patience and understanding, you can get things back on track again by July.

Prosperity and success planet Jupiter journeys through your sign until December 19. So it’s a fabulous year to rub shoulders with influential people, maximise opportunities, enter a big competition or apply for a dream job. But there could a temporary financial setback between March 22 and July 2, when serious Saturn moves through your money zone. So make sure you are extra cautious and responsible with finances during this period. Your luckiest days are December 21 and 22, when your ruler Saturn joins forces with auspicious Jupiter.
When it comes to finances, with lucky Jupiter and penny-pinching Saturn both transiting through your money zone, it will be one step forwards and two steps back. You could receive a welcome cash boost via a gift, pay rise, windfall or extra work. But if someone owes you money, don’t expect it back in a hurry. And – if you make an unwise financial decision and then find yourself in difficulties – don’t presume that family or friends will bail you out!

Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are visiting your self-esteem zone, so it’s time to truly love yourself just the way you are, warts and all. In 2020, mistakes will lead to maturity and flaws will add to your feisty charm. If you require help, don’t dismiss the assistance of others. With an experienced teacher, coach or mentor on board, you can achieve great things. If you travel, it’s likely to be for work or study purposes, rather than just frivolous fun.
Adventurous Jupiter is moving through your sign for most of the year, which gives you the impetus to imagine your preferred future, and the chutzpah to initiate personal changes and take on the world. Make the most of this powerful energy surge, because it only happens every 12 years. With Saturn and Pluto also transiting through Capricorn, it’s the perfect time to take on ambitious projects and venture into challenging areas that would usually daunt you.

You’ll find the more creative and altruistic you are, the more successful you’ll be. But avoid gambling, real estate speculation and joint financial ventures in February, May and June, when retrograde Mercury and retrograde Venus scramble and confuse your business brain. Instead, be patient and wait for a more opportune time.
The more you follow your heart in 2020, the happier you’ll be. Just make sure you surround yourself with a positive peer group who celebrate your successes and encourage your dreams. Luckiest days of the year are February 20 and July 27 when Jupiter blesses a personal project or a group endeavour. But September 9 through until November 14 is not a good time to apply for a loan, make a big ticket purchase or sign a major contract, as Mars reverses through your money zone.
.+('56;.' Activities like meditation, contemplation, yoga and journaling are favoured in 2020, as Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto stimulate your spiritual zone and you tap into the wisdom within. The Jupiter-Neptune connection activates your generous humanitarian side in February, July and October when you’ll feel like sponsoring a child, giving money to a relief fund or helping someone closer to home. You’re keen to travel in September, October and November but expect some delays and detours along the way.
.+('56;.' Avoid the Piscean tendency to procrastinate. Adventurous Jupiter makes a rare connection with Neptune, your patron planet, in February and July. So they are the best months to dream big dreams, make magical wishes, set ambitious goals and then pursue them with passion. WEARABLE TECH
HEALTHY HEARING: KEEPING YOU SAFE & PROTECTED Healthy Hearing is our guardian angel, it empowers us to lead our everyday lives without limitations, enabling us to socialise, work and communicate. Our hearing keeps us and our family safe in so many ways. Healthy hearing has been proven to protect us against social isolation, anxiety, depression. Untreated Hearing loss leaves us twice as vulnerable to dementia as those with no hearing difficulties. Our hearing system is designed to amplify certain frequencies that are of importance to us and to warn us of impending dangers. Hearing is expertly designed by nature to keep us safe just like Mr Echidna who developed his protective spikes. It is the sense that keeps us connected to the outside world by sending us clear messages of potential threats. In our recent struggles against the bushfires, our hearing worked hard to maintain our safety and the safety of those around us. Our hearing heroically allows us to hear clearly, to understand speech on TV and Radio, to source the direction of fire fighter sirens and to communicate effectively with our neighbours and fire fighters in our community. For those of us who need assistance to hear more effectively, the options are exciting. Direct streaming of signal from communication devices such as phone Apps, TV and radio to hearing devices means that notifications of great importance can be sent directly into your hearing devices. No interference with background noise, reverberation or even distance from speaker. SO, turn your hearing into a hero not a hindrance. Feel free to call us on (02) 5617 6653 and looking forward to seeing you at Yamba and Maclean. Keep safe and happy over the festive season and look forward to Happy, Healthy Hearing in 2020!

Implant Supported Dentures Full lower dentures traditionally have been held in place by gravity and patient determination. Some lower dentures have fantastic retention and the wearer is able to eat almost anything. These people should consider themselves very lucky. Most full lower denture wearers survive on a modified diet and mild embarrassment. There is a way, in most cases, to significantly increase the retention of the full lower denture. In a majority of cases, two implants placed in the anterior (front) part of the lower jaw can stabilise the denture incredibly. There are many systems available to achieve this anchoring. Most rely on a ball and socket type joint. The locator system is slightly different and provides more retention. Presently, locators are the gold standard in implant supported dentures. Supporting an existing denture on two implants can provide some of the highest levels of patient satisfaction modern dentistry can offer. Imagine being able to eat an apple for the first time in 30 years or not having to worry that your dentures will move around whilst eating out. Placing implants needs careful consideration of a range of factors including bony architecture, position of nerves and blood vessels, medical history and previous dental history. Here at Fitzroy St Dental most implants can be placed in the surgery. As well as convenience, this can provide considerable financial savings. We are more than happy to answer any of your implant or dental related queries. As the festive season approaches, the team at Fitzroy St Dental would like to wish the Clarence Valley a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you do happen to find yourself with a dental dilemma over the Christmas period, we are open for emergencies on all working days and offer an after hours emergency service. So....just what is
GI?
Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of how foods affect your blood sugar level. The measure ranks food on a scale of 0 to 100. Foods with a high glycemic index, or GI, are quickly digested and absorbed, causing a rapid rise in blood sugar. Foods with a low GI are digested and absorbed at a slower rate, and, subsequently, cause a slower rise in blood sugar levels. The glycemic index can be a useful tool to identify lower-glycemic foods that often are more nutrient-dense, as well as foods JKIJGT KP TGƂPGF ECTDQJ[FTCVGU 6JG RWTpose of this is to guide food choices that are less likely to cause large increases in blood sugar levels. 6JG )+ RTKPEKRNG YCU ƂTUV FGXGNQRGF CU C strategy for guiding food choices for people with diabetes. There are various research methods for assigning a GI value to food. You might choose to follow a lower GI diet because you want to lose weight or need help maintaining blood sugar levels as part of a diabetes treatment plan. Studies suggest that a GI diet can help achieve these goals. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, both for body and mind, is best done with a combination of reducing calories in your diet and increasing your physical activity and exercise. Always check with your doctor or health care provider before starting any weightloss diet, especially if you have any health conditions, including diabetes.
Look after your skin these holidays The summer holidays are here and that means time spent outdoors enjoying the sunshine. As great as it is to be outdoors we can’t forget about our skin. It is important to protect your skin from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation is the invisible killer that you cant see or feel. UV radiation can be high even on cool and overcast days. This means that you can’t rely on clear skies or high temperatures to determine when you need to protect yourself from the sun. For best protection the Cancer Council recommends a combination of sun protection measures. Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Slop on a broad spectrum, water resistant SPH30 (or higher) sunscreen. It is best to put on sunscreen 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterward. Sunscreen should not be used to extend your time in the sun. Slap on a hat a broad brim or legionnaire style is best to protect your face, head, neck and ears. Seek shade and slide on some sunglasses. It is really that simple.

Many of us know that driving in hot weather is often necessary. However it is important to take a few precautions, so you can stay cool, avoid heat related breakdowns, or in the worst case scenario, be safe if your car does break down. *It is important that you stay hydrated. Make sure that you drive with spare water, enough for all passengers and any pets as well. If driving in the heat avoid caffeinated drink, while they may help to keep you awake, they are also diuretics which can cause your body to lose water. *If you are going on a long trip and haven’t had your car serviced in the last six month, you can prevent an uncomfortable breakdown by getting it looked over by a professional so [QW ECP DG EQPƂFGPV VJCV KV KU KP IQQF shape. *Hot temperatures can put additional strain on your battery.
