G
r eetings to you from Camp Hill, PA
Thomas Aquinas says, “Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate .” One way to illuminate something is to go to its source, to learn the cause or origin of that thing in order to understand it well In Latin, this concept of going to the source is summarized in the phrase ad fontes, which means “to the fountains” or “to the springs ”
Going Ad Fontes with Humanitas
When it comes to building a history or humane letters curriculum, we try to follow this same pattern and go to the sources—the primary sources—as soon as students are ready . Humanitas is our upper-school humane letters curriculum, each year of which includes 100 curated and annotated primary source readings, enhanced with images of full-color, period-specific paintings, artifacts, and architecture See page 52 for more information
Growing in Virtue with The Curious Historian
We are also elated to release our third year of history curriculum for elementary and middle school students The Curious Historian series goes ad fontes in age-appropriate ways while presenting history as an ongoing human story that cultivates wisdom as students encounter various examples of virtue and vice . Each semester-long, full-color text features images of artwork, artifacts, and architecture of the covered time period See page 47 for more information
This year we are also excited to be releasing:
• That’s a Fallacy!: This pithy and enjoyable introduction to the informal fallacies is written for parents and adults who want to master the art of debate and discussion .
• Latin Alive! Book 1 Revised Edition: Implementing nearly ten years of feedback and ideas for enhancement, we have refreshed this superb Latin book designed for upper-school students
• The CLT Student Guide: Classical Academic Press is now the publisher of the official CLT Student Guide, the essential study guide for the CLT and CLT10 exams .
• The Justice Reader: This collection of 50 primary source readings, created in partnership with the Classic Learning Test, explores the cardinal virtue of justice . This reader can supplement any humanities class but doubles as good practice for the CLT.
• The Good Teacher: This book on the timeless principles of classical pedagogy focuses not on discrete techniques of teaching, but rather on those principles that inform and select techniques, setting the teacher free to know what to teach, as well as when and how .
We are grateful to be a thriving company in the midst of the growing renewal of classical education Thank you for your partnership with us as we all strive to bring the best education we can to our families and communities, both in the United States and abroad

LATIN
Study Latin First
10 Reasons to Choose Latin as Your Primary Foreign Language
by Dr. Christopher PerrinThere are countless benefits to studying Latin—indeed, it is no wonder that Latin has been a required subject in schools for centuries! You will likely find that the study of Latin brings life to your students’ learning and becomes a silver key that opens a dozen different doors to many fascinating paths . Here is a list of the top 10 reasons to choose Latin as your students’ primary foreign language .
1 Becoming Multilingual: Latin never truly died, but rather evolved into French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian (the Romance languages) . About 90 percent of the vocabulary of these languages comes from Latin To learn Latin is therefore to begin a study of 6 languages at once
2 . English Vocabulary and Grammar: Studying Latin aids students in mastering English . Since 50 percent of all English words are derived from Latin—along with 80–90 percent of all polysyllabic words—students will greatly expand their vocabulary The regular grammar of Latin is also ideal for aiding the learning of English grammar or the grammar of many other languages .
3 Professions: Latin prepares students for many important professions that are steeped in Latin terms and phrases or in English words derived from Latin . These career fields include law, medicine, science, music, theology, philosophy, art, and literature .
4 Writing and Reading: The increased vocabulary and understanding of grammar gained by studying Latin enables students to write and read with greater ease and clarity .
5 English Literature: Latin grants students a deeper understanding of English literature prior to 1950, much of which is replete with references and citations in Latin .
6 History: The study of Latin and its history and influence helps students to more fully understand and appreciate the Roman Empire, which has had profound and continuing effects on Western civilization .
7 Great Literature and Art: Latin enables students to enjoy some of the most influential literature in the world—in the original language Learning Latin well enough to read original Latin works is an attainable skill that imparts great satisfaction and enjoyment . Additionally, great works of art and monuments all over the world are frequently graced with Latin
8 . Educational Virtues: The study of Latin is an ongoing practice in linguistic puzzle-solving that generally helps students to become close and thoughtful readers and writers . Many scholars believe it also hones the mental faculties, cultivating careful analysis and attention
9 . Pleasure: Deciphering the “secret code” of Latin and learning how to puzzle-solve, see the meanings behind words, and read great authors in their own tongue are pleasures that will last students a lifetime
10 . Simultaneous Learning: As you can see, studying Latin is a way of performing advanced study in multiple subject areas simultaneously It is a master art that enables students, in turn, to master other skills and other subjects

One year, as an upper-school teacher with no previous study of Latin, I sat in on our school’s Latin 1 class, which was using Latin Alive! Book 1. Not only did I enjoy the class and easily learn the chants and declensions, I witnessed how much the students (in a class of mixed grade levels) enjoyed the curriculum, too!”

“Writing & Rhetoric is a true delight and so beautifully done: exposure to literature, history, and art [plus] valuable tools in the writing process and an introduction to academic concepts with just the right touch. I’m genuinely excited to continue with the series and to revisit books with younger students.”

A Classical Approach to the Progymnasmata
What are the progymnasmata ( progym)? Derived from the same root for “gymnasium” and “gymnastics,” the word means “preliminary exercises .” It is a writing system so dynamic, so effective, that it outlasted the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, and has even survived into early modern times . The progym will prepare your students to enjoy transforming that blank sheet of paper into a spectacular view from atop the pinnacle of their own imagination .
The goal of the progym is to prepare students for the art of writing well and speaking persuasively Through the Writing & Rhetoric series, students will not only learn these skills but also enjoy the journey to mastering modern composition—including narrative, expository, descriptive, and persuasive writing—while simultaneously developing unique rhetorical muscle This series builds a solid foundation of mastery, imparting new skills incrementally while blending those taught in preceding books The exercises are arranged from simple to more complex, and what’s more, they are cumulative, meaning that later exercises incorporate the skills acquired in preceding exercises .
See ClassicalAcademicPress.com/FAQs for placement recommendations.
Writing & Rhetoric Teacher’s Editions include the complete student text, as well as answer keys, teacher’s notes, and explanations . For every writing assignment, this edition also supplies descriptions and examples of what excellent student writing should look like, providing the teacher with meaningful and concrete guidance
Writing & Rhetoric Audio Files allow students to engage their sense of hearing and their listening intelligence as the fables, parables, myths, tales, speeches, and historical narratives that correspond with each book are delivered aloud in a thoughtful manner by members of the CAP staff By listening to the audio files, students will enjoy and internalize the stories before they enter them more deeply .

Writing & Rhetoric Book 11: Thesis Part 2
by Paul KortepeterBook 11: Students will implement what they learned about writing well-crafted persuasive thesis essays in Writing & Rhetoric Book 10: Thesis Part 1 and continue to advance those skills by creating dynamic and powerful speeches . A vital part of rhetoric, oratory takes the connection between thinking and writing and extends it to public speaking Students will learn from masters of oratory, past and present, by studying the great speeches of Cicero, Thurgood Marshall, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, and Malala Yousafzai, among others . When preparing and delivering their speeches, students will utilize the 5 canons of rhetoric and the common topics of invention to help them discover and refine their theses
Thesis Part 2 is designed to build students’ confidence in public speaking, teaching them the habits of good elocution and proper breathing Incorporating the preceding skills learned throughout the series, students will research, write, and then deliver 3 practice speeches (or declamations) of their own creation in the manner of the branches of rhetoric: deliberative, judicial, and epideictic As students gain skill, they will learn to delight in discourse as a way “to enlighten the understanding, please the imagination, move the passion, and influence the will” (George Campbell)
Writing & Rhetoric Book 12: Declamation
Declamations, which are essentially reinterpretations of an important or famous speech, are the training exercises in eloquence that marked the capstone of Roman rhetorical instruction Declamation reconstructs these ancient exercises and adapts them for use today, offering a systematic approach to rhetorical invention and enabling students to forge a clear pathway to eloquence These declamation exercises will sharpen a variety of rhetorical skills and complete students’ prior training in eloquence . Along the way, they will gain oratorical dexterity through practice exercises and use the skills and strategies learned in the previous books to further build their persuasive imagination
Mapping Your Writing, Logic, and Rhetoric Programs toward the Senior Thesis

A Special Note for Public & Charter Schools on Writing & Rhetoric
The Writing & Rhetoric series does not advocate a religious perspective in any way, but on occasion does include content from different religious, historical, and literary traditions as well as from secular sources . It does not pretend that there is no such thing as a religious viewpoint—but nor does it assume that its audience comes from a particular viewpoint Writing & Rhetoric may use a parable or a narrative derived from a particular tradition, such as a Hebrew parable, a Christian proverb, a Chinese proverb, a Greek myth (once a religion), or a Muslim reference—all of which are strictly used as thoughtful literature (not as a religious lesson in any way) . Writing & Rhetoric has been approved by many charter schools across the country, but we understand that each charter or traditional public school has different standards in terms of what they define as acceptable . Classical Academic Press is happy to provide a full list of these references for your school to review . Please contact us at Info@ClassicalSubjects.com for more information

What if the study of grammar could harness a child’s natural curiosity? What if it could be a source of delight to children? What if in later years students could apply their grammar knowledge and not just recite it?
The Well-Ordered Language (WOL) series presents the study of language in a way that appeals to a child’s inborn curiosity and desire to collect, gather, and order. It presents grammar in a clear, systematic way, while simultaneously seeking to cultivate a child’s wonder of language by presenting instruction in the context of narrative and language, attractive illustrations, and samples taken from classic children’s literature and poetry.
The WOL series is designed so that students actively engage with the grammatical concepts in each lesson, using language skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—along with songs and chants. Students will find the mastery of grammar achievable, meaningful, and delightful as they learn to gather and arrange words to express their thoughts clearly and accurately.
In addition to the full text of the student edition, the Well-Ordered Language Teacher’s Editions include pedagogical guidance and tips embedded in the text, along with extensive explanations and guidance in WOL’s unique analytic approach to grammar . Suggested schedules, activities and games, and answers for all of the student exercises provide teachers with intentional material for use in guiding their students .
The Well-Ordered Language Audio Files are lively tunes and chants that will help students learn grammar terms in a pleasurable and memorable way These unique and delightful recordings feature a blend of musical genres and implement repetition, chanting, and singalong phrases to aid in achieving memorization You will likely find your students singing these catchy songs outside of class!

I would like to start Well-Ordered Language with my older students. Where can I begin?
Each WOL level consists of 2 books and is a full year of grammar . Schools and educators may adjust the number of exercises and assessments according to their needs The 4 levels of WOL build on one another just like a Latin program or any other language curriculum:
• Beginning Grammar—Level 1A and 1B
• Intermediate Grammar—Level 2A and 2B
• Advanced Grammar—Level 3A and 3B
• Intensive Grammar—Level 4A and 4B
If your student is very comfortable with the 8 parts of speech and their functions, you should be able to move directly into Level 2A We recommend reviewing the table of contents and having your students work through some of the exercises provided in the free online sample to determine if moving ahead will be the best fit!
History
With so many subjects to learn, and so little time to study them all, do we really want to spend time mired in the past, traveling along the dusty roads of former mighty empires such as Babylon, Greece, and Rome, when our students’ minds could be speeding along the superhighways of modern technology? We think the answer is an emphatic “Yes!” We agree with the words of well-known modern author Michael Crichton, who said, “If you don’t know history, then you don’t know anything . You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree . ”
We believe that history is about more than memorizing dates, reciting lists of kings and emperors, and remembering who won which battle in wars that changed the world forever . History is also the study of the people who lived during those events . From the beginning of recorded time, people have invented new ways to do things, created beauty in dreary places, and erected buildings and monuments that continue to inspire us Some of these people became well-known figures and others were ordinary men and women like you and me . But all of us are part of the greater tree of humankind, and we each need to know what our part is as a leaf upon that tree . Without an understanding of the past, we will be less equipped to live in the present and plan for the future .

Humanitas collects, in Matthew Arnold’s phrase, “the best which has been thought and said” from our past in order to give students a firm foundation for the study of history.
Presented in a comprehensive, 4-year course of study, each set of books reflects the contributions of a team of scholars and subject experts who have composed introductions and afterwords to contextualize each primary source document and annotated the texts to enable students to meaningfully engage each reading. Along the way, students will encounter timelines and maps, accounts of contemporary figures and events, and stunning artwork about the subjects depicted. After completing this series, students will not only have been exposed to the study of Humanitas—the greatest minds, art, ideas, people, and events of the last 3,000 years—they will also be prepared to contribute to it.
e Humanitas series for high school students covers the following eras:
Humanitas: America
by Christopher Maiocca, Series EditorHumanitas: American Origins Books 1 & 2

The 50 chapters include:
• Critical writings, such as Hall’s Chronicle, which served as the basis for most of Shakespeare’s historical plays and gives us an exclusive, eyewitness account into King Henry’s tumultuous reign
• Monumental treatises, such as Samuel Rutherford’s Lex, Rex, the broadside that famously told Europe to abandon the monarchical system
• Precious narratives, including George Washington’s letters describing a harrowing year at Valley Forge and William Bradford’s inspiring tale of the Pilgrim’s dream to become a “city on a hill” and the attempts to patch the world’s newest nation back together again

This set of two books provides an unfolding, historical narrative of the peoples, ideas, culture, and events that were most responsible for shaping the epoch between the conclusion of the American Revolution (1783) and the Reconstruction (ca 1877), as told directly through eyewitness accounts . The primary source documents present students with an unparalleled view into the trials and triumphs of a nation nearly destroyed by civil war
The 50 chapters discuss historical themes including:
• The creation of a novel government in the wake of the Revolution
• The divergent paths that the North and South would eventually trod

Humanitas: Medieval
by Junius Johnson & Matthew SmithHumanitas: Early & Late Medieval
With the rise of Christianity and the foundering of Rome, the medieval period begins in crisis Humanitas: Early Medieval Books 1 & 2 move from pressing questions about the relation of Church and state in the wake of Rome through the establishment of Christendom Students will discover that the medieval period, commonly known as “the Dark Ages”, was anything but dark as these books chart the maturation of the liberal arts, the advances of science and culture that accompanied a renaissance of learning, and the development of political theory and praxis as various states and kingdoms are established
The 50 chapters include:
• Accounts of religious developments
• The spread of imperial power through figures such as Charlemagne alongside the Carolingian Renaissance
• Historical chronicles that relate political developments in what will become England and France
• Poetic and literary texts that help provide national identities
Humanitas: Late Medieval Books 1 & 2
Late Medieval Books 1 & 2 begin with the establishment of feudal society following the Norman Conquest of Britain and move through the development of high scholasticism, the renaissances of the Trecento and Quattrocento, and the early exploration of Asia and Africa The flourishing of the Late Medieval period was not without conflict, and in these books students will read about the separation of western Europe from the Byzantine east, the devastating effects of the plague, the political ramifications of the Hundred Years War and the Crusades, and attempts at church reform and the delineation of orthodoxy and heresy
Logic
Logic is like a two-sided coin: On one side it’s the art and on the other it’s the science of reasoning . We see logic used (and abused) on a regular basis whenever someone makes an argument . Most often, we see bad arguments—what we call “fallacies”—readily on display in the public sphere . But what we might not see is the poor architectural construction of those arguments .
A comprehensive study of logic can and should be applied across the curriculum so that students are introduced to both the art and the science of arguing and reasoning well . Students should be developing and practicing critical thinking skills as early as the grammar stage and employing these skills long into adulthood . From exploring the informal fallacies (everyday arguments gone wrong) to using Aristotle’s rules for testing validity, the study of logic will teach students to craft accurate statements, build valid arguments, and pursue Truth .
“CAP’s writing and logic programs offer the most comprehensive and engaging instruction that I have seen in the K–12 market. Students will be very well prepared to meet unique writing challenges in both university and workplace settings.”

Suggested Logic & Rhetoric Sequence
Using Classical Academic Press Logic & Rhetoric Texts
We use logic every day, often employing it to distinguish logical arguments from those that are unreasonable . Beginning in the earliest stages of child development, the building blocks for this skill are shaped and formed, which is why we suggest starting logic study in 3rd or 4th grade! Take a look at our suggested logic course of study (by grade and level), which also prepares students well for an upper-school study of rhetoric

The Art of Argument: Informal Logic
by Aaron Larsen, DA & Joelle Hodge, MAT with Christopher Perrin, PhDThis new, revised version of The Art of Argument preserves all of the best features of the award-winning first edition while incorporating more comprehensive instruction about how to detect and avoid each of the 28 fallacies covered in the book and updated fallacy examples for today’s students . This edition also includes taxonomic fallacy trees to give students and teachers helpful visual guides as they seek to understand the commonalities and differences between the fallacies, plus several new dialogues with everyone’s favorite philosopher, Socrates! Additional explanations and examples have been provided in the teacher’s edition to better equip instructors to guide their students through the most challenging fallacy identifications The result is a richer, fuller, more naturally flowing text that fosters wonder and delight as students learn to detect fallacious arguments in their own academic work, in the arguments of others, and in modern culture .
Full program includes:
The Art of Argument (student edition) This book teaches 28 informal fallacies (such as begging the question, the straw man, appeal to fear, etc ) Clear explanations and illustrations, along with dialogues, worksheets, and dialectic discussion questions, make this text easy to follow and the fallacies fun to learn . The fallacies become relevant with practical applications through an analysis of social, commercial, and political issues, as well as nearly 60 comical and clever fake advertisements
The Art of Argument Teacher’s Edition This edition features the entire student text, along with answer keys, teaching tips, and invaluable chapter and unit tests
The Discovery of Deduction: Formal Logic
by Aaron Larsen, DA & Joelle Hodge, MAT with Shelly Johnson, PhDThe Discovery of Deduction: An Introduction to Formal Logic will welcome your students into the fascinating realm of formal, deductive logic . This text teaches students how an argument is put together—the form or structure of an argument . It pulls back the curtain to show students not only how arguments work, but also how to assess what’s going on in their own minds . The Discovery of Deduction is recommended for students who have studied informal fallacies, such as those taught in The Art of Argument ; however, the text does also stand on its own as an independent study of formal logic
The Discovery of Deduction (Student Edition) This book makes a subject usually reserved for study in college accessible and relevant to logic-stage students, who are at an age when they are beginning to engage with important ideas . This text emphasizes the practical and real-world application of soundly structured deductive logic . Using methods such as Socratic dialogue, ample discussion, and integration of other subjects, the text approaches formal logic in the ideal way for dialectic students . Starting with a short history of Aristotelian logic, students move from there to learning how to translate arguments from ordinary, conversational, or written narratives into categorical form . Students then build on those skills as they study how to construct syllogisms and test them for validity . As a part of this process, they study the square of opposition and relationships of equivalence, learning how to make valid propositional inferences and analyze syllogisms .
The Discovery of Deduction Teacher’s Edition This edition features the entire student text, along with an answer key, teaching tips, sample essays, dialogues, and arguments .
The Discovery of Deduction Video In these chapter-by-chapter lessons, instructor Joelle Hodge, coauthor of the text and President of Classical Academic Press, explains the concepts of formal logic, providing a variety of examples and applications along with plenty of visual aids to help students master the content Students will also learn to avoid the pitfalls and mistakes often made when trying to tackle this challenging subject on their own

MORE LANGUAGES
Children have a natural desire to learn and to experience the world around them Numerous studies have shown that children are uniquely suited to studying foreign languages because such study capitalizes on their inquisitive nature, providing them with an opportunity to explore methods of communication, decipher thought, and connect with others .
Classical Academic Press was founded on the idea that study of the Latin language is an essential element of a classical education We have since taken the pedagogy and structure of our flagship series, Song School Latin and Latin for Children, and applied them to our our Spanish and French programs *
We know that a key component of learning a foreign language is the distinction between learning common words and phrases and understanding the mechanics of the language well enough to communicate fluently and accurately Designed both classically and creatively, CAP’s texts foster a love of foreign language in students as young as 1st grade through vocabulary and song . For older students, the texts build up to achievable challenges in grammatical instruction, immersion-style dialogues, and basic translation, creating a solid foundation to correctly speak and understand the language .
*See p. 8-24 for our Latin courses and pages 68-74 for a complete list of our other foreign-language offerings.
“I have been a CAP customer for over 7 years. My daughter has used Song School Latin Books 1–2 and Latin for Children Primers A–C, and this year she will start using Latin Alive! Book 1. We have used Spanish for Children Primers A–B as well, and I was so impressed with the material that now I use it with my students at a private school in Arizona. My first language is Spanish, and I thought the material was well organized and challenging.”

In science instruction today, challenges abound, from determining correct teaching methods to deciding how best to ensure students’ retention of content beyond the course. These challenges are compelling thoughtful science educators to continually ask, “Where do we start?” In the search for a program that will improve science education and increase student achievement, Centripetal Press stands as the solution!
Centripetal Press founder and author John D. Mays based his 7th–12th grade curriculum on the core principles of mastery, integration, and wonder, 3 areas of focus that are evident in each of Centripetal’s middle and high school textbooks. The content is carefully selected, presented, and assessed cumulatively so that students can truly master the entire body of material in a standard academic year. Integrative instruction avoids isolating science, and instead draws connections to other subjects such as math, writing, and history. As students learn more about the natural world, they will develop a sense of wonder and fascination, and a healthy attitude toward caring for and preserving the earth and its millions of species of living creatures.
The tone, style, and graphics in each Centripetal text are age appropriate, coherent, and engaging, designed to draw students upward toward the adult world of scientific inquiry and study. Combining the 3 core principles with rich, appealing designs results in the deeper learning of less material and, ultimately, in a superior science education that helps students cultivate a love for the natural world.

Physical Science
by John D. MaysPhysical Science introduces 6th–8th graders to the unique mastery-learning methodology that will carry them through their science journey This book will introduce students to physical science topics such as types of matter, energy, forces and fields, measurement, and more Students will also be challenged to begin thinking about the nature of scientific knowledge as they learn about theories, facts, and hypotheses Where appropriate, references to the humanities are incorporated to add greater dimension and to help humanize and decompartmentalize science .
The text includes 12 experiments, nine of which are quantitative . Quantitative experiments—those involving measurements, data, and quantitative analysis—are a hallmark of the physical sciences . We assume that students in 7th grade have little prior experience tabulating and graphing data, so the text includes a primer on graphing data immediately before the first experiment The design of these experiments enables students to engage in quantitative laboratory work (measurement, data collection, graphing, analysis) well before the mathematical topics are introduced in the text (Chapter 8) . All the experiments were specifically designed for this course and many make use of everyday materials such as Hot Wheels™ cars, golf and ping pong balls, magnetic compasses, Styrofoam™ cups and coolers, batteries, and lightbulbs .
Planet Earth
by Kevin NelsteadPlanet Earth provides middle school students with a comprehensive exploration of fundamental topics in earth science, ranging from weather systems and the properties of matter and minerals to the dynamic forces of volcanoes and earthquakes, and the fascinating realm of radiometric dating . This enriching text not only imparts knowledge about the Earth’s geological processes but also delves into crucial contemporary issues . As students navigate through the pages, they gain valuable insights into timely subjects such as the conservation of natural resources, the profound impacts of climate change, the complexities of pollution, the pursuit of environmental justice, and the current scientific consensus regarding geologic history
The text doesn’t merely present information; it actively engages students with hands-on learning experiences . The inclusion of eight experiments enhances the educational journey, with three specifically focusing on the practical application of topographic maps for determining both distance and altitude . These exercises not only strengthen spatial reasoning skills but also provide a tangible connection to real-world geological exploration The stream table, a source of hands-on excitement, offers a dynamic model for understanding streamflow and erosion, making the learning experience both enjoyable and informative
By fostering a holistic understanding of Earth’s processes and connecting scientific principles to pressing global issues, Planet Earth empowers students to become informed citizens who appreciate the interconnectedness of our planet’s geology and the importance of responsible stewardship for a sustainable future

This text also offers a wealth of additional content, as well as an analysis of the research and literature on mastery learning
From Wonder to Mastery begins with a focus on the need to foster a sense of wonder in the classroom, and then goes on to explore how mastery learning is supported through the 4 essential areas of integration with science: epistemology, mathematics, history, and language The final 5 chapters describe John’s mastery-learning model in detail . This book is an excellent resource for professional development, and an essential read for science teachers and administrators who want to build a premier science program at their school .
From Wonder to Mastery: A Transformative Model for Science Education $21 95
A New Alternative for Science Education
Most students tend to adopt a futile learning method called the Cram-Pass-Forget cycle, in which they cram for tests, pass them, and then soon forget most of what they learned. Success in such an environment revolves around jumping through hoops, not genuine learning. By contrast, Centripetal Press texts incorporate methods and curriculum materials designed to promote a LearnMaster-Retain cycle. This approach involves adopting a reducedscope curriculum with continuous review and ongoing accountability for retention. Instead of isolating science content from everything else, critical points of effective integration are developed, such as highlighting shared skills found in both science and math, history, and language. Students are encouraged to think and talk about the relationship between science/mathematics and the wonders of nature as students grow in their understanding of our endlessly fascinating and mysterious world.

Plato: The Great Philosopher-Educator
by David Diener, PhDAny attempt to encapsulate Plato’s thought regarding education is a daunting task Plato’s views are many and diverse, and throughout history innumerable analyses of his thought have already been made . The attention that has been paid to interpreting Plato, however, is certainly not undeserved . Plato is one of the principal founders of the Western intellectual tradition, and it is nearly impossible to examine the historical development of any academic topic without, knowingly or unknowingly, addressing Plato’s views . Regardless of our final assessment of Plato’s educational thought, it is unquestionable that his understanding of education has had a profound impact on the development of educational theory and practice around the world for nearly two and a half millennia The study of his views is thus of great benefit, both as a means of examining fundamental questions about the nature of education addressed in his work, and also as a means of better understanding the historical roots of the Western educational tradition

Common Arts Education: Renewing the Classical Tradition of Training the Hands, Head, and Heart
by Christopher Hall, MATThe liberal arts—the trivium and quadrivium—represent the core, the academic foundations, of a classical education . And yet, they alone cannot meet our basic needs, for we must eat, heal, defend ourselves, trade, build, find our way around, and more . It is these common arts that provide the experiences in real application that will allow students to become not only fully functional in their knowledge, but fully charitable in the world In this book, author Chris Hall outlines a vision for the resonance between the liberal, fine, and common arts, supplies concrete steps that teachers can take to implement a common arts curriculum, and provides a series of experiences to try in any classroom, at any grade level .

That’s a Fallacy! presents 28 logical fallacies—the most common ways that arguments go wrong and become deceptive . It features multiple examples of how each fallacy works, including dialogues that present logical fallacies in culture, politics, school, and home life Various fake advertisements throughout the book exemplify many of the fallacies .
That’s a Fallacy! is an ideal book for those wishing to protect themselves from propaganda of all types and to argue well with cogency and clarity and without fallacies .
