THE THREE TOWERS - MINUS ONE! Clayco and Hourigan imploded One James River Plaza in Richmond, Virginia. The controlled implosion took 3.6 miles of detonator cord and over 3,300 pounds of explosives which were placed in over 2,000 different locations around the building. All 21 floors of the former Dominion Energy headquarters were brought down in a matter of seconds. 9


CCDI SCHOLARSHIPS With the help of school districts, colleges, mentors and subcontracting partners, Construction Career Development Initiative (CCDI) was able to award four 2020 “Build Our Future” scholarships. This annual scholarship is awarded only to top-qualifying high school seniors who exhibit a desire to pursue employment in the construction industry. 10


INTERCHANGE 55 Shortly after completing the base building and site improvements for Interchange 55, the project site was bought by Prologis, one of the largest logistics facilities real estate investment companies.

WORLDWIDE CARE The construction of this new 590,525-square-foot regional office for Fresenius Kabi was completed in just over a year. This facility’s products and services are used to help care for critically and chronically ill patients around the world.

PROJECT TITAN This project’s scope includes 40,300 square feet of freezer space expansion for Associated Wholesale Grocers in Nashville, Tennessee.

NORTHPOINT COMMERCE PARK This project is a redevelopment of the old Republic Steel mill which will be transformed into one of the largest industrial developments in Chicago in nearly two decades.

PLAY BALL! Clayco is excited to be involved in the historic Stars Park at Harris-Stowe State University as we continue our partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals and our commitment to the St. Louis community. 15


EAST COAST HEADQUARTERS Designed by LS3P, Clayco is building Centene’s new 80-acre campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. Phase 1 began in August and includes the main 770,000-square-foot building and a 2,400-space parking garage.

ROAD RELOCATION Clayco is the design-builder for the new Harbor Freight project in Joliet, Illinois. Once complete, this massive warehouse will be over 1.5 million square feet and encompass over 125 acres, requiring the relocation of Brandon Road.

CONTINUED GROWTH Clayco has built over a dozen facilities in Edgerton, Kansas for NorthPoint Development’s Inland Port. Our latest project for this logistics hub is an over 950,000-square-foot spec building.

CENTENE UNIVERSITY The new additions retain the existing feel of the school, while adding new curtainwall gives it a slightly more modern feel. The interior will incorporate a daycare facility on the first floor, with new training facilities on the second floor. 21


ROCKWOOL Our Rockwool project in Ranson, West Virginia recently reached 655 days injury free with over 550,000 man-hours! Thank you to our Clayco crew for maintaining fantastic safety leadership and teamwork throughout this project.

NEW CASTLE Clayco completed construction on this 1-million-square-foot cross-dock warehouse for NorthPoint Development in Frackville, Pennsylvania.

E-COMMERCE GIANT The Clayco enterprise has completed 18 distribution and warehouse facilities for Amazon across the United States with an additional 22 projects currently under construction. The projects combined will total over 62 million square feet of industrial space.

NEW PARKING GARAGE Lamar Johnson Collaborative is designing a 3-level, 630-space parking garage for Garnet Health Medical Center. The design includes an ambulance bay and a bridge connecting to the existing hospital.

NOKIAN TYRE Clayco’s integrated design, engineering, and construction team delivered one of the most technologically advanced tire manufacturing plants in the world. 27

COMMUNITY BUILDING In February, CCDI’s Construction Academy toured S.M. Wilson’s City Foundry jobsite in Midtown St. Louis and learned about the renovation and restoration work at this new entertainment complex. 29


WILLS WHARF Ventana was hired to design, manufacture, and install the exterior curtain wall at Wills Wharf. The 12-story structure, built by Armada Hoffler, is a mixed-use building that houses 156 hotel rooms as well as office and retail space. 30


GREEN STREET Ventana is designing, manufacturing, and installing the exterior wall systems at the 18-story tall office building known as Spectre in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. The project is being built by Focus Construction.

545 WYN Ventana has been selected to provide the exterior enclosure systems at the 545 Wyn project. Developed by Sterling Bay, designed by Gensler, and built by John Moriarty & Associates, this 10-story office building will elevate Miami’s standard office experience and engage the Wynwood neighborhood.

WINDOWS ON 100 While Clayco builds the project, Ventana is providing the glass for 100 Above the Park, St. Louis’ newest luxury apartment building. 33


FUN IN THE SUN Our Chicago team got their summer interns together and enjoyed some urban kayaking on Lake Michigan.

CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP Clayco’s projects for Anixter include two corporate offices, a tenant build-out, a 500,000-square-foot distribution facility and the latest is this 75,000-square-foot warehouse facility.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE FLEET Adding onto Volkswagen’s existing manufacturing footprint on their Chattanooga campus, the 564,000-square-foot body shop expansion and 198,000-square-foot battery assembly facility will be VW’s North American hub for electronic vehicle manufacturing and is scheduled to begin production by 2022. 36


ROCKET SCIENCE Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, Blue Origin’s Engine Plant in Huntsville, Alabama won Engineering News-Record’s Best Manufacturing Project in the Southeast for 2020. This facility will manufacture seven of the LNG fueled BE-4 rocket engines that will provide nearly 4 million pounds of thrust to Blue Origin’s New Glenn Rocket.

SAFETY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY Developed by Parkside Realty and designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, Fulton East office building was influenced by the advent of COVID-19 and features state-of-the-art wellness technology for its future tenants. Among other safety features, the building features the world’s first hands-free elevator system and non-thermal, plasma technology in the building’s HVAC to help reduce crosscontamination risks and provide employees with cleaner air and work surfaces.

DOLLAR GENERAL The new distribution center in Amsterdam, New York has created over 400 new jobs in Montgomery County, and provided up to 200 jobs while under construction. The facility is the fifth project Clayco has completed for the retailer with a sixth facility to start construction soon.

AIRPARK Clayco was selected by Nicklies Development to be the builder for their new 930,000-square-foot speculative distribution center in Louisville, Kentucky.

EXTREME SOCIAL DISTANCING Members of our construction team at this Amazon warehouse facility in Nampa, Idaho took to the skies with their drone to show us how serious they take social distancing!

THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING This 1.3-million-square-foot speculative building for NorthPoint is located in Lacey, Washington within view of both Mt. Rainer and the Puget Sound. 50


BEAT THE HEAT In July, we held a safety lunch and raffle with prizes for our team on a jobsite in Michigan. The lunch was COVID conscious with tables positioned 6 feet apart and prepackaged lunches were provided. We also had some fun with a dunk tank, giving the team a chance to dunk some of their coworkers.

BENSON HILL Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, the new Benson Hill headquarters in Creve Coeur, Missouri will bolster the region’s position “at the forefront of the future of food” while working to improve the sustainability of key crops and ingredients in the food industry.

100 ABOVE THE PARK Studio Gang designed four-story tiers that are stacked over the height of the tower. The facade is angled to create generous outdoor spaces on top of each tier, providing terraces for a quarter of the apartments, as well as shared amenity space for the resident community atop the green roof podium.

JOHNSON & JOHNSON Clayco was selected to build a 450,000-square-foot addition for Johnson & Johnson’s existing 1-million-square-foot facility that Clayco completed in 2011.

HIGHER EDUCATION Lamar Johnson Collaborative provided architectural and interior design services for Ozarks Technical Community College’s Republic campus. This 30,000 square-foot facility is the second project LJC has completed for this large community college system.

THE POST COVID-19 WORKPLACE Developed by Parkside Realty, Fulton East is the nation’s first next-generation office building designed to specifically address employee health, safety and wellness in today’s post-COVID-19 business environment.

SENIOR BUILD-OFF CCDI teamed up with North Tech High School to host the 1st Annual Senior Build-Off Competition. Each team was given plans, materials and two class periods to complete the project. The winning team was awarded gift cards and tools from Home Depot. 60


A CHICAGO CLASSIC More and more of Willis Tower is being reopened to the public following its amazing transformation. One of the biggest additions to the tower is Catalog, a 5-story, 300,000-square-foot retail, dining and entertainment space at the base of the building.

COVID SAFETY Our Willis Tower jobsite sent in this selfie of our team being Clayco Safe with face masks and social distancing. The health and safety of our crew has always been our top priority and we love seeing our team embracing our “Work Safe | Live Safe 24/7” philosophy.

I HAVE YOUR BACK As part of our Clayco Safe initiatives, our jobsite teams took the “I Have Your Back� promise. Those who took the pledge were given T-shirts to thank them for their commitment to their safety and the safety of others.

STRETCH & FLEX Clayco’s Safety program provides work-specific stretches to help our employees increase their overall flexibility and range-of-motion. These stretches will lengthen the muscle tissue making the muscles less prone to trauma, tears, and other types of injuries on the job site.

SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS This 600,000-square-foot spec building in Sacramento, California is a warehouse with 36’ clear heights.

TRUSTED PARTNERS We have built a long-lasting relationship as trusted partners to Mercy. Altogether, Lamar Johnson Collaborative has designed over 30 healthcare facilities for Mercy across the country.

ENGINE TEST The historic 4670 Test Stand will be heavily modified, along with updates to many of the buildings on the site, in support of BE-3U and BE-4 rocket engine testing.

HAGERSTOWN LOGISTICS These two speculative distribution warehouses for NorthPoint Development total 1.2 million square feet. Both buildings will be tilt-up and structural steel construction.

BATTERY INNOVATORS SK Battery, which makes lithium-ion batteries for hybrid and fully-electric automobiles, will build batteries for multiple vehicle manufactures, including for our Volkswagen project in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

TIMELESS BEAUTY The renovations at 175 West Jackson restore the glamor of the past with new contemporary clean and classic materials. Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Clayco collaborated with Brookfield Asset Management to renovate and redesign the entire lobby and circulation corridors inclusive of elevator cabs. 73

THE JOB IS THE BOSS In October, our Executive Chairman and Founder, Bob Clark embarked on a country-wide tour of over 45 Clayco enterprise jobsites to personally thank the construction teams face-to-face for their commitment to safety in the face of the pandemic.

PROJECT ULTRAVIOLET This project is a COVID-19 response space that needed to be utilized as soon as possible. The project ran 24/7 with crews to complete it ahead of schedule.

TWINNING! Two of Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s team members showed up to the office in almost matching outfits. Now only if they had coordinated their masks, too! 77


LINK IN THE LOOP Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s most recently completed project in St. Louis is a mixed-use development prominently located in the heart of the Delmar Loop. Built by S.M. Wilson, this office and retail property replaces a former gas station, breathing more life into the already buzzing entertainment and dining district.

REBUILDING TOGETHER A group of Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s team members from the St. Louis office volunteered for Rebuilding Together. Our team spent the day performing home repairs for a local family in need to ensure their home remains safe and comfortable.

BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY Lamar Johnson Collaborative recently completed the interior design of a broadcast studio and corporate headquarters for ASHARQ in Dubai.

FIRST FLOOR FITOUT Clayco completed the 25,000-square-foot interior fit-out of the first floor of the Couch Biomedical Research Building at Washington University School of Medicine.

HEALTHCARE HEROES Our Clayco offices and jobsites proudly hung banners to show support for healthcare heroes across the nation!

CHEWY.COM This is the fourth facility that Clayco has constructed for the online pet supply retailer. This new 690,000-square-foot build-to-suit distribution facility in Salisbury, North Carolina includes 19,000 square feet of office space and 671,000 square feet of warehouse space.

MACY’S Clayco, Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Brookfield Asset Management are working together to renovate the historic Macy’s Flagship store in Chicago. The lower level design remains loyal to Marshall Field’s classic ornamental gold features while adding warm, modern finishes and the top floors be will transformed into white space for office build-outs.

WE CAN DO IT! Team members from Clayco and Lamar Johnson Collaborative linked arms, picked up power tools, and joined Habitat for Humanity Chicago’s Women Build to knock down barriers to affordable housing for local women.

ARCHBALD LOGISTICS CENTER The first building completed on the Archbald Logistics Center site was a 650,000-square-foot distribution facility for Chewy.com. This project is the fifth Chewy.com facility built by Clayco.

SKY HIGH TOWERS Clayco has been the design-builder on multiple projects for Centene Corporation. Recently, our team finished up the expansion of Centene’s campus in Clayton, Missouri, including a brand new, mixed-use tower with two parking garages. The entire project encompasses 1.9 million square feet.

PREPARE FOR TAKE-OFF Clayco was selected to design and build a turn-key project for Jet Aviation and Gulfstream FBO and MRO hangars in Van Nuys, California. Clayco was also responsible for designing and installing the infrastructure required to support the new LEED NCv2009 Silver certified facility.

IVY LEAGUE BOUND In preparation of CCDI student Malik Sediqzad’s first semester at Harvard, CCDI organized an immersive week to help get him ready for the school year. He spent time with the Lamar Johnson Collaborative team learning about architecture, design and VDC software. Malik also spent time with the Clayco team touring local jobsites. At the end of the week, Malik was presented with a laptop to help get his freshman year off to a great start.

WILDHORSE VILLAGE This new 80-acre, multi-use development will be the new urban center of Chesterfield, Missouri and is being delivered through the integrated services of CRG, Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Clayco.

SCAD VICTORY The Victory Village Student Housing project is Clayco’s fourth project with Savannah College of Art and Design, and is comprised of an East and West Hall totaling approximately 250,000 square feet.

INTEGRATED DELIVERY Construction began in October on two new warehouse facilities for Lowe’s, one in Houston, Texas and one in Birmingham, Alabama. These two facilities were developed by CRG, designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, and are being built by Clayco. Two truly integrated projects.

VIRTUAL DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION Our ability to integrate Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design Construction (VDC) practices into our process ensures that we deliver a design-build experience that is second to none. 95


MULTI-USE GARAGE The design-build team of Clayco and Lamar Johnson Collaborative recently completed the Westview Garage for Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Once complete, the university immediately started to use this parking garage structure as a drive-thru COVID-19 testing location.

NEXTGEN HEALTHCARE The University of Missouri-Columbia NextGen Precision Health Institute was constructed with general contractor Whiting-Turner. Concrete Strategies provided the concrete frame and waterproofing services that included 5 levels of wide module pan joist construction and had over 330,000 square feet of finished slabs.

SPRING STREET Lamar Johnson Collaborative teamed with Mackey Mitchell Architects to design the Phase 2 development at the Spring House parcel of SCAD Atlanta. This is an exciting opportunity to continue to establish a campus and advance SCAD’s brand in a growing, bustling city.

PROJECT FIRST BASE Located in Sacramento, California, this 1.1-million-square-foot warehouse was constructed using tilt-up panels and included 70+ acres of sitework.

EDGE@WEST This project in Creve Coeur, Missouri utilized the full design-build and self-perform concrete resources of Clayco, Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Concrete Strategies. The building will feature shared workspaces, common elements designed to encourage collaborative engagement and amenities to improve the quality of the work environment.

THINKING CREATIVELY At University of Illinois’ Siebel Center for Design, students will master design thinking by acquiring skills like problem framing and research, analytical reasoning, ideation and conceptualization, prototyping and communication.

REBUILDING BRIDGES Concrete Strategies was hired to rehab the Adelaide overpass on Interstate 70 that was damaged after being struck by a tractor trailer. Sections were pre-built off site by CSI, transported, and set with a crane over a weekend closure of the interstate.

THE NEXT CHAPTER Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, Broadway Chapter is the most recent development in CRG’s Chapter residential brand and is currently under construction in Fort Worth, Texas.

LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR The Upshore Chapter development in Chicago is a perfect example of Clayco’s integrated expertise. During the design and development phase, Lamar Johnson Collaborative and CRG engaged the community, partnering with the local alderman and chamber of commerce to help benefit the growth of the Uptown neighborhood. 106


SWAN MAIDEN This triptych art installation was created by artist Brandin Hurley, who was inspired to develop something which evoked peace and tranquility for residents of our Upshore Chapter multifamily development.

FOR THE CURE, NO MATTER WHAT Due to COVID-19, Pedal the Cause worked a little differently this year. Team Clayco was inspired to ride, spin, walk, run, or create their own challenge to fundraise for cancer research. 108

CANCER-FIGHTING TEAM The Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes Jewish Hospital Cancer Center will be a new landmark home for unparalleled patient service, multi-specialty cancer care, and thriving research. This project was a collaboration between Lawrence Group and Perkins Eastman architecture firms. 109


HEADING OUT WEST The Clayco and Lamar Johnson Collaborative design-build team was selected to design and construct the Penn State University West Campus Parking Garage to accommodate campus growth. In March, PSU seniors taking a capstone design class visited the construction site.

HAVE TRACE PAPER, WILL TRAVEL Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s Ben Buehrle, Lance Yeary, and Alan Barker recently got together in Alan’s backyard for a design review of the 19 N. May project. Fresh coffee, fresh air, trace paper, and masks--way to get creative and continue collaboration!

ON THE FAST TRACK Clayco is wrapping up Phase 4 of 6 at the East Halls Renovation project on the Penn State University Campus. In March, Pennsylvania mandated construction sites to be shut down due to the COVID pandemic. When construction reopened 6 weeks later, the project team was able to accelerate the completion of Geary Hall for student occupancy for the Fall semester. This entire project is a collaboration between Mackey Mitchell Architects (Residential Design Architect), DLA+ (Architect of Record) & Lamar Johnson Collaborative (Landscape Architect).

IRON HILL Clayco and Lamar Johnson Collaborative have been chosen by Cullinan Properties to design and build a new 850,000-square-foot, mixed-use development.

WORKPLACE ANTHROPOLOGY Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s workplace strategy team, Advance Strategies, applied a cutting-edge approach to this project and developed a robust environment for creativity and productivity, as well as one that fully reflects the presence of a global headquarters. 115


PROJECT INTERSTATE II Located in Bryan County, Georgia, this 700,000-square-foot speculative building is scheduled to be completed at the start of 2021.

DOUBLE DUTY Our team worked concurrently on these two facilities for Amazon in Detroit, Michigan. The 200,000-square-foot Delivery Center was completed in August while the larger AR Sort Fulfillment Center continues construction through 2021. Once completed, the second facility will have over 3,700,000 square feet of space!

448 NORTH LASALLE Lamar Johnson Collaborative designed and Lendlease built this 172,000-square-foot, 12-story mixed-use office building located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.

DIVIDE TO DIVINE Delmar Divine will be a place for conversation, creativity and collaboration that will co-locate nonprofit organizations, sponsor innovative community programs and provide affordable housing for young professionals and leaders in the social sector.

THE “ART” & SCIENCE OF BUILDING Judith Shaw, a St. Louis artist, turned one of our local jobsites into a source for her art. She worked with the Centene jobsite team to create “Fault Lines,” a collection of large prints of tire tracks created by our cement trucks and other jobsite machinery.

A GLOBAL CITY The AECOM Hunt | Clayco Joint Venture is now partnering with Bowa Construction on the historic expansion of O’Hare International Airport. We are always looking for opportunities to expand our diversity efforts, and we look forward to continuing to build future partnerships.

ABC EASY AS 123 Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s Chicago Architecture Book Club (LJC ABC) meets outside for a social distancing discussion about their most recent reads.

PROJECT RAVEN Clayco has been selected to build a 1.8-million-square-foot distribution center for McCormick & Company in Baltimore, Maryland. This mega warehouse will serve to consolidate the spice manufacturer’s smaller facilities into one sustainable building. The project is pursuing LEED Gold certification and has a goal of achieving net zero energy.
