CCDI CHARLOTTE COMMUNITY BUILDER
JUNE 2021 EDITION
The CONSTRUCTION CAREER DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (CCDI) brings diversity to the Design and Construction industry by mentoring and exposing minority/underrepresented and under employed men and women to career development in construction.
OUR STORY CCDI was founded by Clayco in 2015 in response to the aftermath in Ferguson, Missouri to provide a program for selected young adults in North County to help them overcome barriers to success, pair them in long-term one-on-one mentorship, offer financial support, and create opportunities for job placement. Clayco’s vision and ultimate goal with CCDI was to support workforce diversity and bridge the gap in workforce development. Clayco realized this task could not be completed alone and over the past 5 years CCDI has grown beyond the walls of Clayco to include many partnerships in the St. Louis community with school districts, local leaders, general contractors and subcontractors. #BuildingTheFoundationForChange The framework of the CCDI program is now being reconstructed to fit the needs of the Charlotte community.

SUBCONTRACTOR SPOTLIGHT – LITHKO Lithko is one of the country’s largest concrete contractors, earning the #2 ranking on ENR’s Top Concrete Contractor list for the past four years. Lithko is committed to supporting communities through partnerships with local schools, charities, and other organizations. This March, Lithko presented A Day in the Life of Concrete to local high school students at the ROC, shown here. Presenters included Mike Rohrer, Charlotte Area Lead, and Joel Dubon, a Lithko employee who is a recent graduate of the ROC.
TRADE SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT – THE ROC The ROC is an accredited program that integrates high school upperclassmen with the growing construction field. These students receive hands-on mentorship and training to learn both the project management and trades side of construction, with focuses in advanced carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and construction management. Clayco has partnered with ROC for various student employment opportunities and classroom presentations to students. A link to a video we supplied to the program can be found here. Darren Ash and his team have been outstanding collaborators to help shape the future of Charlotte and the construction industry. CCDI is grateful to have local partners that are passionate about integrating young professionals into the industry that we have all grown to appreciate and enjoy.
