Looking Forward from Alan Dodd, Theatre Director
Drama is a strong feature for all ages and tastes in our autumn programme. We have three fine productions commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War: Private Peaceful (p7); Not About Heroes (p15) and A November Day (p20). There’s also the world premiere of a new English translation of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, and the iconic classic Elephant Man comes to our stage as an exciting new adaptation from Fourth Monkey Ensemble. Lined up are two great comedy dramas Stones In His Pockets (p7) and Ha Ha Hood (P23) starring Su Pollard and Cannon & Ball. We have two brilliant and very different interactive experiences aimed at teenagers and young adults - Gatecrash by Zest Theatre and Blind performed by the UK’s leading female beat boxer Grace Savage. Last but not least we have another superb NT Live and RSC Live season of screenings to enjoy. We can safely say there is something here for everyone.
News
On 29 July 2014, North Devon Theatres will be introducing a fee of £1 per transaction for all ticket bookings. North Devon Theatres’ Trust is a registered charity and has been absorbing the high cost of ticket processing for many years but we are no longer able to sustain this in the face of reduction in funding from local and national government. We have made the decision to introduce a booking fee rather than increase ticket prices as our ticket revenue can be divided between other parties. By adding a booking fee we ensure that the full amount will go directly to North Devon Theatres to cover our ticket processing costs. The booking fee will be introduced from 29 July 2014. The charge will apply to all bookings whether on-line, by telephone or at the counter. However, unlike other theatres who have introduced similar systems, it is only charged once per transaction so you may book multiple shows and events and only pay the charge once. *Transaction fees will not be charged to North Devon Theatres Members and Supporters or groups of 10 or more including schools. For more information please speak to a member of the Box Office or Front of House teams.

“I am not concerned with Poetry. My subject is War, and the pity of War. The Poetry is in the pity.” Wilfred Owen Not About Heroes is the extraordinary story of two of the ‘Great War’ poets, Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon, their friendship, their inter-dependency, their poetry. Through the letters and poems of these two men, Stephen MacDonald’s acclaimed play paints a vivid and moving picture of their friendship and the conflict that brought them together.
