“PACK YOUR OUTDOOR GEAR, GRAB A MAP AND START PLANNING YOUR ADVENTURE. YOU’LL BE SPOILT FOR CHOICE!”
WELCOME TO PEMBROKESHIRE Porth y Ffynnon climbing
“Welcome to Pembrokeshire. As an Ambassador for the ‘Year of Adventure’ in Wales in 2016 I couldn’t be more proud to say that my own record-breaking adventures started in this beautiful corner of Wales.
of 210km in a non-stop 34.5 hours. I have never been more relieved to see the Pembrokeshire Coast.
For me ‘adventure’ is about getting off the beaten track, exploring new places and physically challenging yourself. I grew up on a farm just south of the Preseli Hills. My childhood was packed full of visits to the coast; crabbing off the pontoon in Dale or catching the surf at Newgale.
Pembrokeshire has something for everyone, from leisurely coastal walks to extreme tests of endurance in the annual Iron Man competition and the Preseli Beast. I am currently walking all 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with my 65 year old dad; we’re breaking it down into manageable one day walks. The views that appear around almost every corner are simply breathtaking.
More recently I completed a recordbreaking journey by kayaking from Land’s End to Pembrokeshire, a total
So pack your outdoor gear, grab a map and start planning your adventure. You’ll be spoilt for choice!”

PEMBROKESHIRE’S 1
SPECIAL PLACES 1. WALK THIS WAY Go for a leisurely stroll or a refreshing ramble with our network of paths. Top trails include family-friendly routes at Bosherston Lily Ponds, and dramatic clifftop walks around St David’s Head. 2. HANDS-ON HISTORY See what life was like in the 1500s at the Tudor Merchant’s House, the oldest unspoilt house in Tenby. Or time travel further and uncover Iron Age forts along the Solva Coast; they’ve been a part of the landscape for more than 2,000 years. 3. WILDLIFE WATCHING Binoculars at the ready; come and meet the locals. Spot otters at Stackpole, seals and their pups off the Marloes Peninsula and brilliant bird life, from puffins to peregrines. 4. COAST WITH THE MOST Make waves at one of our sandy stretches, Barafundle Bay’s forever winning awards whilst nearby Freshwater West is a seaside star and superb for surfing. Have a go at kayaking or coasteering from Stackpole Quay, get rockpooling at Marloes Sands and uncover adventure at Abereiddi and its Blue Lagoon. 5. FLOWER POWER For a real riot of colour visit Colby Woodland Garden, admire carpets of bluebells and daffodils followed by swathes of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons. The coastal heathland is pretty impressive too; see shades of purple and gold paint the landscape around St David’s and Strumble Head. 6. PLACES TO STAY Of course, when you’re done for the day, you can sleep easy at one of our holiday cottages. Take your pick from rural retreats and accommodation with waterfront views – Castell Farmhouse is great for families whilst rustic Treleddyd Fawr Cottage is perfect for a romantic break away.

SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE
Pembrokeshire is an area with a wealth of historical significance waiting to be explored. A busy centre point for trade routes between Britain and Ireland between the Neolithic and the Iron Ages, it was also an important Celtic base with strong spiritual links to Stonehenge. Around 80 spotted dolerite ‘bluestones’ from the Preseli Hills were used in the construction of Stonehenge’s second phase in 3,000BC.

01 Oakwood is Wales’ only theme park with plenty of rides to keep you busy all day. A whole new area called The ‘Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ opens this year, hot on the heels of the ‘Neverland’ themed area that opened in 2013. The popular ‘After Dark’ evening openings in the school summer holidays have also returned.

02 The award-winning Folly Farm is more than just a farm. It’s a zoo, a vintage fun-fair, an adventure playground and it’s open all year. 50% is under cover too. Two rare black Rhinos have recently joined the star attractions of Lions, Giraffes and Penguins.
03
03 The Blue Lagoon is a brilliant indoor water park with a wave machine, flume rides and a lazy river. Regular ‘After Dark’ evening sessions are great fun when all the waves, cannons and jets are on full power! Next door is The Adventure Centre, a giant countryside-themed indoor adventure play centre and indoor high ropes course. 04 Anna Ryder-Richardson’s Manor House Wildlife Park is a zoo with a difference with walk-through
enclosures where you can get up close to the animals. Now open all year round. Rhinos Zambo and Jambo have now been joined by new star attraction, Sumatran Tigress Terima.
05 For a Monster day out, go to the Dinosaur Park near Tenby. As well as the Dinosaur trail, there are loads of rides and activities included in the admission price including an indoor adventure playground, digging for fossils and a giant bubble ride. 24

MAKING THE GRADE A GUIDE TO QUALITY ASSURANCE
All the accommodation featured in this publication has been independently assessed so you can make your choice in confidence, knowing that each place to stay has been given a rating according to the quality and facilities on offer. These ratings mean that you can be sure of standards and choose the accommodation that’s just right for you. Visit Wales/AA are the only checking agents in Wales, checking out over 5,000 places.
WHAT DO OUR STAR RATINGS MEAN? Visit Wales STARS are evidence of quality. They range from one to five stars and are a reliable indication of the services and facilities you can expect in accommodation which includes hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfast, farm accommodation, hostel/hostel type accommodation, self-catering cottages and apartments and caravan holiday home and touring/camping parks. Alternative Accommodation such as yurts, tipis and tree houses are also checked to ensure that they meet minimum standards. Cleanliness is the most crucial element of any assessment and minimum standards, particularly at the higher star ratings reflect consumer expectations. All accommodation grades are based on a set of common quality standards agreed by Visit Wales, Visit England, Visit Scotland, Tourism Northern Ireland and the AA.
DOES A LOWER STAR RATING EQUAL LESS QUALITY? Many lower star rated accommodations may still offer high quality but do not meet all of the facility and service expectations for the higher star ratings. Is it particularly important not to compare Guest Accommodation ratings against Hotel ratings as different criteria are used when assessing. The advice is to always check with an establishment before booking to check that the accommodation offers the services and facilities that meet your needs – they will only be too pleased to help. Also look out for that extra-special property that has been awarded Visit Wales’ Gold Award, given for exceptional standards of hospitality, comfort and food in serviced accommodation. Occasionally, it has not been possible to visit the accommodation prior to publication. In these instances, the property is marked as ‘Awaiting Grading’.Some accommodation operators have chosen not to be star rated, but they have been checked out to ensure that they provide an acceptable level of services and facilities appropriate to their type of business. They are identified as either ‘Verified’ or ‘Listed’.
32
VISITOR ATTRACTIONS Look out for the Visit Wales Quality marque. This only gets awarded to attractions that have been independently assessed against the national standards of the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme to ensure that all areas important to your visit are of the best standard.
ACCOMMODATING VISITORS WITH DISABILITIES All Visit Wales graded properties have an Access Statement. This statement tells visitors in a clear, accurate and honest way how the property can meet their particular needs. Three symbols have been introduced to help visitors with physical impairments find the Access Statements of most relevance to them. Accommodation providers have selected the one symbol which best describes the improvements that they have made to their properties.
LOOK OUT FOR THESE SYMBOLS:
Access improved for mobility impaired people
Access improved for visually impaired people
Access improved for hearing impaired people
The advice is to always check with an establishment before booking to check that the accommodation offers the services and facilities that meet your needs.
PLEASE NOTE: All gradings and awards were correct at the time of going to press. Occasionally, it may not have been possible to undertake a grading. This situation is clearly identified by ‘Awaiting Grading’ appearing within the advertisement/entry. Grading assessments are on-going and improvements made by establishments may have resulted in a revision since publication. Please check when booking. Further information on gradings and awards is available from Visit Wales, Welsh Assembly Government, Rhodfa Padarn, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion SY23 3UR Tel: 0845 010 8020 email: quality.tourism@wales.gsi.gov.uk www.wales.gov.uk/tourism
ANY PROBLEMS? In the unfortunate event that you do encounter problems with your chosen accommodation, please refer to www.wales.gov.uk/tourism for further guidance.

The Stables is also home for fun activities of Zorbing and Segway. In Zorbing, you are safely harnessed opposite each other inside a giant inflatable ball before being launched down our custom made run. For our harnessed zorbing the age limit is 12 and over. Children under the age of 16 need parental consent. Here at Nolton Stables we have loads of fun on our Indoor Segway Course. The Segway is a two-wheeled self-balancing battery-powered electric vehicle, it’s easy to learn, but takes skill to master! You can race around our track and take part in time trials to test your skill. There is extensive quality accommodation available close to the stables with our own self catering cottages and the historic Glebe House B&B.
