An Academy education A new, unique and exciting opportunity for the young people of Basildon and for the Basildon Community

“ We thought carefully about what was needed and what needed to change. We refused to compromise.

As a result we now have linked Academies whose facilities and systems set them apart from other schools. Alan Roach, Executive Principal

A new school for a new generation Ours is an exciting new school with a very different approach to education. Our students are based in small Colleges of 150 and follow a personalised curriculum. Every student here is known and challenged to be the best they can be. Our focus on Enterprise and Mathematics provides invaluable skills for life. The Basildon Academies inspire students to learn and raise their ambitions. As a result, our students’ life chances will increase immeasurably.

The Lower Academy

A Specialised 11–14 Campus

The Basildon Lower Academy has been specifically designed to create a safe and nurturing environment where your child will thrive. Students are divided into nine Colleges of up to 150 students within which each student belongs to a mentoring group of 12 to enable close monitoring of individual progress. Students stay in their own dedicated learning zone throughout the day. This reduces the need for student movement and maximises time spent learning. The Lower Academy focuses on individual development. Each student is given personal support to encourage ambition and achievement. The Academy features stimulating interior design and impressive new facilities.

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to welcome you to The Basildon Lower Academy where we are leading the way in education. We have an exceptional learning environment where your child will be both nurtured and challenged. Traditional values are at the heart of everything we do. Our children will be given all the guidance and support they need to develop and achieve. We want to give them the drive to test continually their own abilities so that they can face their future education with confidence. ZoĂŤ King Principal, Lower Academy

The Upper Academy

A Unique 14–19 Facility

As students progress to the Upper Academy, they continue to benefit from the Academies’ unique College organisation, providing small, dedicated learning zones and programmes that help them develop into confident leaders. Each student follows an individually tailored programme. We have high expectations and set challenging targets in buildings where technology and IT facilities are state-of-the-art and where traditional values are paramount. Students gain hands-on commercial experience in the Academy’s Enterprise Zone, where they can develop, test and run their own businesses. There are opportunities for work experience and students study higher level diplomas and A-levels in the Academies’ Sixth Form.

Dear Parents,

In our extraordinary school, students follow rigorous academic and leadership programmes which give them the self-belief to succeed in school and in life.

We create an intimate and supportive school community, where classes are small and personalised, where teachers teach with passion and commitment and where parents are partners with us in their child’s education. All students learn the values of kindness, respect, honesty and self-discipline. Alan Roach Executive Principal

Outstanding provision for our Sixth Form The only school in the area to offer an ‘all through’ facility, The Sixth Form College opens a world of opportunities to students. We offer a full range of academic and vocational courses. Students are supported by personal tutors and careers advisors. They also have access to an impressive range of sporting and extra-curricular activities and the latest technology. As a result, our students will be exceptionally well prepared for life. Responsibilities in school, on work placements and in our Enterprise Zone develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. We encourage students to have high aspirations and to believe in themselves. They will leave as confident, high performing adults capable of succeeding in whatever they choose to undertake in life.

A Real World Focus

Enterprise and Mathematics A curriculum focused on Enterprise and Mathematics prepares students for commerce and the real world like no other specialism can. Enterprise and Mathematics are at the centre of the curriculum in both the Upper and Lower Academies. Skills in these subjects help raise academic and practical performance levels across all subjects. The skills our students learn prepare them for an exciting future in the commercial world. Strong numeracy skills break down many of the usual barriers in life and enhance access to well paid careers in commerce and in the professions. We offer a wide range of Enterprise and Mathematics programmes and our Enterprise Zone gives further practical and creative experience to older students.

A Bold New Step

A Unique Organisation Our unique College system radically improves learning and achievement and nurtures the individual. Studying in smaller classes within College units of up to 150, students benefit from close support and a more personal approach. Every student is known and no one can be lost in the mix. Students follow a curriculum tailored specifically to their individual needs and aspirations. Being part of a smaller unit generates a greater sense of ownership and belonging among students. It creates an environment where individual talent and ability can be nurtured. All students are encouraged to achieve their best and we celebrate their achievements throughout Academy life.

Raising Aspirations

A Source of Community Pride

We aim to be an inspiration to our students and to the community we serve. The Basildon Academies develop children as leaders. Our innovative learning environment complements our traditional, rigorous teaching. As a result our students are self-assured, high achievers who believe in themselves and in their ability to succeed. Our ‘can do’ approach is infectious and is a focus for regeneration. We do not set out just to improve the life chances of our students. We want, through our extra curricular programme, to engage with families and to see our community thrive as a result.
