The Sixth Form

The Curriculum

The Sixth Form at Cator Park School is a vibrant, diverse community of young people. Our aim is to stimulate students to achieve the very best they can whilst developing confident, talented individuals. All students are valued equally and our tutor groups are mixed ability. Each year, under the guidance of highly qualified and committed staff, students follow a variety of courses that will prepare them for University, Further Education or employment. This specialist and personalised provision has helped our Sixth Form students achieve consistently high standards in recent years. Sixth Formers have exclusive access to supervised study areas, the library and IT provision as well as a large common room area and kitchen. They also enjoy use of our new facilities, such as the fitness suite, conference rooms, drama, dance and multi-track recording studios.

Our wide and innovative curriculum is underpinned by state of the art IT. We offer an extensive and flexible range of traditional and applied AS and A2 courses. Students can also enter the Sixth Form to study Level 2 BTEC courses and take resit classes in core GCSE subjects. We are committed to excellent teaching and learning across the Sixth Form curriculum and both are rigorously assessed and monitored. The extended project qualification is well established to support students’ applications to the most sought after Universities.

“Three-year scores indicate outstanding overall performance comparable to the top 10% of Sixth Form providers nationally.” – ALPS

Welcome from the Headteacher Dear Student, Thank you for your interest in a place in our Sixth Form. I am very proud indeed of all the opportunities offered to our students at Cator Park School and their outstanding achievements. Our students are friendly and highly motivated. They are supportive of one another. They are polite and respectful towards other members of the school community and their teachers care a great deal about their academic progress and general wellbeing. They are exciting, ambitious and motivated and a pleasure to be with. I am in no doubt that they are indeed the leaders of tomorrow. I wish you every success with your application, Headteacher – Meryl Davies

Enrichment

Pastoral Care and Guidance

Our Sixth Form offers extensive opportunities for students to take on responsibilities which make intellectual, social and moral demands of them. The students are a strong positive presence within the school, leading the active Student Council, undertaking prefect duties, supporting younger students in their lessons, taking part in the many extra-curricular opportunities offered or helping lead clubs and charity events. Social and fund raising activities provide an opportunity for team building and fun as well as relaxation away from the pressures of academic study.

The Sixth Form is supported by a strong pastoral system staffed by some of the most experienced staff in the school. Every student is allocated a tutor. Through regular monitoring and reporting procedures, tutors support and challenge their tutees as necessary. The tutors play vital roles in the induction process at the beginning of each year and through the university or careers application process.

The strong international dimension to our curriculum was recognised when we became the first school in the area to gain the British Council’s International School Award. We have many overseas partners in Europe, Asia and Africa. Students also embark on foreign travel to places as varied as Uganda, Tanzania, Thailand, China and India through our well-established World Challenge scheme.

“The care, guidance and support offered in the Sixth Form are good.” – Ofsted
