The School Curriculum Lea Valley has a welcoming and exciting induction programme when students join the school. Our bold and innovative approach to the curriculum enables students to access a broad range of options from Year 9 through to the Sixth Form. Students follow a personalised learning programme with individualised pathways according to their ability

and aptitude, not their age. This gives the students more control over their learning and allows them to build a portfolio of qualifications in stages. Many of our students at the end of Year 10 will have achieved good grades in as many as five or six GCSE or equivalent courses, giving the opportunity to fast track to A level courses. Other students will follow a vocational pathway, which covers all levels from foundation courses to those leading to university entrance qualifications.

Post 16 The Sixth Form Centre offers an inspiring Post 16 education to all students, with a wide range of courses. Ofsted acknowledges our work in caring and supporting our students. Our Sixth Form students are very much at the heart of the school and contribute fully through the prefect and house systems. In addition to academic and vocational courses we provide a wide variety of extra-curricular activities which encourage all students to develop into confident, mature young adults, preparing them to take the next steps to higher education and beyond.

Facilities Lea Valley is housed in new inspirational buildings offering a light, bright, airy learning environment with state of the art facilities. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, and each curriculum area is in its own suite of rooms including a dedicated ICT room. Some of the specialist areas include a language laboratory, seven ICT/ Business rooms, ten Science laboratories, a recording studio, a dance studio and two Drama studios. We believe it is very important to come together as a community and are fortunate to have an impressive Assembly Hall where the whole school meets for full school assembly twice weekly. Our Library is at the heart of our building where students have the

opportunity to pursue independent study, join the lunchtime chess club or simply quietly read a book. One of the school’s most impressive features is its spectacular courtyard, where children can relax safely in the garden areas or the outdoor amphitheatre.

Life at Lea Valley We believe that all students are entitled to experience a range of extra-curricular opportunities to complement their academic progress. Lunchtime provides a wealth of enrichment activities and clubs. Each year we run enrichment programmes when students have the choice of a range of activities including overseas trips, outdoor education, theatre visits, historical and geographical field trips, and helping out in the local community. Throughout the year there are opportunities for students to develop their own leadership qualities, through following one of our sports coaching programmes, participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, performing in one of our musical or drama presentations, or becoming a member of one of our student councils. Every student is expected to make a positive contribution to our community.

Our partnership with parents At Lea Valley we use state of the art technologies to support our partnership with parents. The Parents Gateway is a very successful secure, online facility which allows parents access to current information on their child’s attendance, assessment, and timetable. This service is available to all parents and carers of students at our school.

“ The students are very well cared for and supported in all aspects of their development with effective support mechanisms that Ofsted recognised as outstanding and reflect the commitment of the school to the students. The school extends this care to all stakeholders and will go the extra mile to engage, encourage and involve. IQM Assessor May 2010
