You are known on the market more as Modular UPS manufacture? Is this true?

Yes and no … Gamatronic was indeed a pioneer in modular UPS technology, starting to sell modular UPSs on the market already in 2003 , which was in the very beginning… But this is far from the only style of products we provide to the market . We also have an extensive range of so called conventional/standalone products. For example: We are since more than 10 years one of the main UPS suppliers for Irish Rail, we supply for more than 10 years special offshore application UPSs for the UK branch of a very famous International American company ( unfortunately I cannot mention any names because of editor’s rights… ) and many more examples of UK and international stand-alone as well as modular projects can be found on our website. And Gamatronic is strengthening its portfolio with the launch of a brand new modular UPS, called ‘’CENTRIC’’ and with a soon to come brand new model in the stand-alone arena.

What is so special about this new “CENTRIC”?

The Centric’s double conversion topology provides high quality power regulation, and ac-ac efficiency of up to 96%. The Centric’s battery is true on-line as per IEC 62040, guaranteeing instant availability of backup power in the event of a mains failure. It is a transformerless system, with a dramatically low electromagnetic radiation profile and provides high power relative to its small footprint. The Centric has unity power factor and is offered from 50KVA=50kW up to 200KVA= 200kW. Units can be paralleled up to 800 KVA/KW, with internal parallel KIT built in as standard. The Centric combines the price and looks of a stand-alone but carries some of the best, proven and most reliable elements of modular technology inside as well making this UPS not only much more reliable, but also much easier to service!

It’s far too late to clean your fuel when the lights go out. Fact: Poor fuel quality causes generator failure. Water and the microbial growth in stored fuel can destroy engines and leave you high and dry when you need your engine most. Critical facilities spend millions of pounds on emergency power systems and generator maintenance every year to be assured that, in the event of an emergency, their facility has the power they require to continue operation without interruption. However, the fuel itself, the “life blood” of the whole uninterruptible power supply (UPS), is often overlooked. Diesel begins to deteriorate as soon as it leaves the refinery This is not a problem for most applications as the fuel is consumed within a few weeks, but for applications such as standby generators, fuel may sit in a storage tank unused for months on end. In just three months, without effective condition maintenance, the fuel is likely to become seriously contaminated with solid debris, water and algae. As the heavier fuels, with lower cetane levels and poorer stability characteristics, are now being produced by modern refining processes, fuels are even more susceptible to biological contamination. Although new fuel is usually fairly dry, with 60 ppm to 80 ppm to be expected upon delivery, any water is a serious threat to machinery. Also, because diesel acts not only as a fuel, but as a coolant and lubricating agent for injection-system parts, free water can displace the fuel leaving the water to act as “liquid sandpaper” thereby damaging injection system parts. Fuel injection components are engineered to incredibly fine tolerances. Any water coming into contact with the heat of the combustion chamber (up to 1000°C), immediately turns to steam and often explodes the tip of the precision injector resulting in rapid wear and even leading to a catastrophic seizure. Today’s common rail diesel engines, with injection pressures of up to 35,000 psi, are intolerant of even the slightest fuel contamination. Another serious problem for engines is the presence of microbial activity. Diesel Bug is the generic name for the microbes that grow in the fuel tank. This is sometimes referred to as algae, however, it is in fact a mixture of several different types of bacteria, mould and yeast which thrive in the water of a fuel tank, living off the hydrocarbons in the diesel. Not only does this cause a gradual performance degradation of the fuel but it also produces a bio-mass in the fuel which will block engine filters. What’s more, the acid excretion from the Bug will, over time, cause corrosion of the fuel storage tanks. Modern fuels, which are catalytically cracked diesel fuels are particularly susceptible to deterioration. As these fuels age, they tend to re-polymerize, forming sub-micronic, highly abrasive particulates. As the process continues, the

re-polymerized molecular chain becomes longer and longer, forming agglomerates and sludge. Another hazard facing the manager of a modern diesel engine is biodiesel. Since it was introduced in January 2011, the new European Fuel Directive has required ultra low sulphur diesel (“ULSD”) to be used in all non-road mobile machinery (“NRMM”). Under this new directive, high levels of sulphur have been removed from diesel resulting in a reduction of the fuel’s lubricity.

Diesel begins to deteriorate as soon as it leaves the refinery To restore it, biodiesel with its far superior lubricity, is added. As the percentage of biofuel in the petro-diesel rises it has a “cleansing effect” on fuel tanks stripping contaminants off the tank wall and into the fuel chain. Furthermore, biodiesel is prone to react with oxygen which can set off a chain reaction within the fuel. This begins with the formation of peroxide, which promotes the formation of organic acids. This, in turn, can cause the formations of gums and resins in the fuel, which results in blocked filters. Biodiesel also enhances the previously discussed risk of water in fuel as it absorbs as much as four times more water from the surrounding atmosphere than normal diesel. As the fuel temperature fluctuates this dissolved water precipitates out of the fuel to form free water in the bottom of fuel tanks which, in turn, accelerates the oxidation process. It is essential to ensure fuel is kept “clean and dry” with a water content of no more than 200 ppm (0.02%). Continual removal of water and solid contamination from the fuel is essential. This process usually comprises water separators and media filters. Portable filtration systems can be located in position near the tank. Alternatively, stand alone, automated filtration cabinets can be permanently installed directly to the diesel fuel storage tank. Airedale International displays latest high efficiency data centre cooling systems at DCW 2014 Leading British manufacturer, Airedale International, returns to this year’s Data Centre World with a selection of its latest chillers, precision air conditioning (PAC) and rack-based cooling systems which deliver industry-leading high efficiency aisle containment and hot spot cooling. Its latest SmartCool™ dedicated chilled water PAC system (11233kW) outperforms rival products in terms of cooling capacity for footprint and energy efficiency ratio (EER). The new frame design on the SmartCool™ SD (60kW–233kW) facilitates a larger coil area and improved airflow path. The innovative slab coil arrangement, with filters located on the face of the coil, provides up to 15% more surface area for air flow and allows for low air-side pressure drop, increasing efficiency by lowering fan power. All units incorporate the latest backward-curved centrifugal EC fans which are up to 70% more efficient than their AC equivalents.

Visitors to Stand C55 will also be able to preview the AireFlow™ indirect fresh air free cooling adiabatic air handling unit (AHU) (100-300kW) which, based on London ambient temperatures, could achieve AHSRAE recommended conditions using 100% free cooling, significantly reducing operational costs. In contrast with direct AHUs, indirect cooling solutions also reduce the dependency on back-up mechanical cooling required to prevent contaminated ambient air permeating the data centre. In more challenging environments, an optional mechanical cooling module will ‘top-up’ the cooling capacity with a partial DX supplementary cooling section.
