What’s Surfing Dinos? Welcome to another amazing year. It will be a year in which more service opportunities will be open to us and in which we continue to strive and service thousands of hours to our home, schools, and communities. Welcome back to another year. First, I want to thank each and every one of you for making my 2016 unforgettable. I never knew how much this organization would truly inspire me until I was elected on January 16th, 2016. Thank you for inspiring me and motivating me for continuing to better serve all of you. As my term is coming close to an end, I want to reflect back on some of our achievements so far. As of December 2016, we have fundraised $4,200 for the Pediatric Trauma Program and served over 4,600 hours as a division! I am honestly beyond proud of everyone! I hope you are ready to “Plant the Seeds of Service at District Convention 2017 in Anaheim, California! Be sure to hold club elections as soon as possible to begin planning accordingly for your 2017-18 officers to attend. Hold a Board meeting with the new and old Board to help them begin a smooth transition into their term. Once again, thank you for your service towards your community and making it into a better place. Let's get ready for another amazing year. With the Love of Service, Fatima Aguilar D2032 Lt. Governor

CONGRATU Club of the Month - Cloverdale: The club of the month goes Cloverdale. They were beyond involved with Key Club Week this year. This year, they sponsored an event called “Diverse-a-Dish Dinner in which they sold Mexican, Italian, and Asian food. With the money fundraised, they were able to make over $900 and send off $250 to the Eliminate Project. After Key Club Week, they had a bake sale and made $295 for the March of Dimes.

Member of the Month- Erendira: Erendira Ceballos from Piner High School, not only attended every single club meeting but went to every Bell Ringing day during her Thanksgiving Break.

ULATIONS! Officer of the Month- Danayeat: Officer of the Month this month is Danayeat Abraha from Montgomery High School because of all her effort for Key Club events and service events. She does so much for the club and is always willing to help.

Faculty- Sue: Sue does a lot for her home club Cloverdale, and for the entire division. She drives members of her club to events too!

Kiwanis - Tricia: Tricia always goes above and beyond to provide Key Clubbers with what they need. Recently, Tricia even woke up at 4 a.m. to drive two key clubbers to CTC in Sunnyvale!

Club R Helping Our American Cancer Society Nathan Sneed | Humboldt

I am super proud of my club this year. I am one of three members who were in the Key Club last year, but for the rest of our club this is their first time. The first service project we did as a club was to assist in moving all the Christmas decorations and merchandise out of the attic of our local American Cancer Society Discovery Shop for their Annual Holiday Open House. There were hundreds of boxes! We went four different times for a couple hours each time to move boxes; we then served at the Open House event itself. We dressed up nice and walked around the store serving cookies while keeping an eye out for shop-lifters. It was a ton of fun! One of our members even dressed up as Olaf, (from Frozen) to take pictures with the children. I am honored to serve my community with such fine individuals.

Holiday Cards By: Fatima Aguilar|Piner Piner High School Key Club recently made holiday cards for seniors in Senior Centers. At the beginning of the meeting, we passed out a sheet of white paper. We folded the sheet of paper and on the cover we wrote “Happy Holidays. Inside of the paper, and we also wrote a sweet message wishing them a happy holiday.

Wrapping Up Some Service Thea Zalunardo|Montgomery The holiday season is always full of much cheer and joy. Helping people wrap gifts for their friends and families was a good fulfillment of Christmas cheer for the Montgomery Key Club. As people had us wrap their gifts, they learned about Key Club's efforts and were educated on project Eliminate, which then most people kindly donated to. It was a fun day for a good cause; money was collected and will help more kids across the globe, while Key Clubbers went home, having done a good day's work .

Club R Turkey Drive! Tia Bentivegna|Casa Grande For the month of November, the CGHS Key Club participated in the Petaluma Turkey Drive. This is a service event at which students help familys’ in need have a traditional, wholesome Thanksgiving dinner with their loved ones. The Casa Grande Key Club participates in this event annually as it is incredibly inspiring and rewarding to help local families have the same luxuries that some of us may often take for granted. Because Safeway did not allow us to remain outside of their store for the entirety of the event, this year’s event did not pan out exactly as planned nor was it as successful as in year’s past. Nonetheless, we volunteered and did our best to better at least some families Thanksgiving dinner and celebration!

Bell Ringing for Salvation Army Fatima Aguilar | Piner Piner High School has spent three days in break to volunteer at Coddingtown Mall. We were caroling inside the mall and ringing the bells provided to get people to donate money to the Salvation Army. We were also part of the Angel Tree where people can sponsor low-income kids who want a certain toy for Christmas.

Reports!

Caroling with Kiwanis Atziry Rodriguez| Cloverdale It's that time of year again! We had the best time caroling with our Kiwanis club at the Cloverdale HealthCare Center on December 11th. We met at 2 p.m. and had a blast. It was heartwarming seeing the patients dance, and sing along to the Christmas songs we were singing to them. A lot of us wore "ugly" Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, etc. Everyone was in the holiday spirit, which made the afternoon even more fun! All we needed to take with us to this activity was our Christmas spirit, and of course, our voices! Afterwards, we served cookies, which we helped decorate, and drinks to the patients.

Key Le What: Key Leader is a weekend long leadership camp where you learn how to grow as a leader and better help your home, school, and community. Upon arrival you will be placed in groups of 8-10 people and will be given the opportunity to grow and bond with these fellow Key Clubbers. Through small group workshops and team building “exercises. You will come home with a better understanding of how to serve your community and having gained life long friendships!

IMPORTANT! Keep in mind that Key Leader and DCON are in the same month. This is why it is important that you remember to fundraise for not only DCON but also Key Leader costs as well. You should start fundraising for both events NOW!

Fundraiser Ideas: 1. Hold a baked goods auction for Kiwanis or teachers. 2. Host a school-wide donation jar contest and the class with the most donations wins a pizza or ice cream party 3. Sponsor a penny war between the grade levels in your high school
