Caring–Our Way of Life

The core values of Key Club International are: Leadership Character Building Caring Inclusiveness

Dear Members, We are approaching the end of the Key Club year; (District Convention is the final event). This is a time when club projects are finalized, members apply for recognition for a year’s worth of hard work, we undergo our officer elections for the upcoming year, and so much more. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the following members who have gone above and beyond. Their service records have allowed them to earn California-Nevada-Hawaii recognition as exceptional members. Their standings are based upon their service records as of the publication of this newsletter. For 50 -100 hours = • • • • •

We all had a great time at the Kiwanis Secret Santa gift exchange! There were16 members who came to a morning Kiwanis meeting and all exchanged presents with our Kiwanis!

Kiwanis Bake Auction

At the same Kiwanis meeting as the Secret Santa exchange, we also held a bake auction. The bake auction was optional, but most of the attending Key Club members brought one or two items to auction off. In the end, we made $600 dollars! What a success! And, what a wonderful Kiwanis club we have!

November Recognition

Although the event was held on the Friday before finals, we still had four members squeeze in time to be there. The members, along with the students in the Special Day Class, had a great time decorating gingerbread cookies. (You can probably tell by the smiles on their faces)!

“Caroling with the Kiwanis members was fun and very cheerful.” – Rowan Addison Four Key Club members, along with eight Kiwanis members, showed up. They all had an amazing time spreading Christmas cheer at our local convalescent hospital!

This was a very special Board meeting. It was hosted at Tian Yuen with amazing food to go along with our pretty amazing Key Club Board members. “It was quite enjoyable. We talked about renting the theatre and what movie to play for our Save the Rain movie night, along with all our regular business. It was just a special meeting.” – Gabriela Gaona

Our Food Pantry Birthday Bag project is a huge success, especially for this little guy! He was absolutely thrilled to receive a birthday bag full of cake mix, frosting, candles, birthday hat and more! He was so excited that he even went home and came back to give cupcakes to that day’s Food Pantry workers!

December Recognition MEMBER OF THE MONTH For Member of the Month, we have chosen Grace Gloeckner. She really got into the spirit of community service, helping with several projects, but especially at both the Kiwanis Crab Feed, Shine Day and the Moroccan Nights event. Grace spent 15.5 hours in service this month!

OFFICER OF THE MONTH For Officer of the Month, we have chosen Neidi Calvillo for helping at more than half of our service events for this month of December. Neidi volunteered for 16 hours in six different projects!

On a cold and dark winter night, several of our members sat outside the local grocery store to raise the final amount needed so that we could send a $1000 check off to Kiwanis International for our 2017 donation to the Eliminate Project. We started fundraising way back last May, during Eliminate Week. And, we finished out fundraising in December, just before sending off our check.

Crab Cioppino Dinner

On a Saturday evening in mid-January our members answered the call for help extended by the local Knights of Columbus organization. We bussed tables for over 400 people!

Thank you, Sophia & Tucker

At one of our January meetings our current Board shared with the members what it’s like to be a Key Club leader for Cloverdale High. Each officer and Executive Assistant talked about their responsibilities. Our officer elections are coming up in early February, so this was a way to share useful information with those considering whether they want to take that leadership step.

Service opportunities this month are focused primarily on the Citrus Fair exhibit, the Citrus Farade, the Disneyland Drawing, and the Redwood Empire Food Bank.
