The job of an Executive Assistant is to be the “extra hand” to the officers. If an officer needs help with a project, you’re the “go-to person.” If one of the officers is absent, you may be asked to step in to help. Finally, as an Executive Assistant, you want to have good meeting attendance. The last chance to apply to be an Executive Assistant will at our October 13th meeting. Applications will be handed out at next week’s Monday meeting.
When a Key Clubber participates in activities that bring in funds for the club, we take a portion of those funds and set them aside in the Key Club account to be used by that Key Clubber for trips. There are several ways to bring in Key Club Bucks: participate in a project that we get paid to do, sell a product & you keep the profit, participate in a project that supports our Kiwanis Club, have one of the top three service hour records each month, and lastly have parents drive students to activities. Upcoming events to begin fundraising for are Fall Rally, District Convention, International Convention, Ice Skating, Bowling, and Key Leader. We hope to see you at all of these events!

Fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program The club’s Vice Presidents have been finding different ways to fundraise for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP). In August, some members stood in front of Ray’s and notified people why Key Club was fundraising for PTP. Starting this week, we will continue with a couple of weekly 2-hour sessions in front of Ray’s and maybe some other stores around town. Essentially, we ask for donations for the cause. So… what is the cause? Basically, we are collecting money to decrease the number of children who are killed and injured by traumas, and to help children’s hospitals provide better service in their emergency wards. Just last week, $20,000 was donated to the Oakland Children’s Hospital, money that our Key Clubs raised last year for the PTP cause. So, what else are we doing besides asking for donations outside of Ray’s? On September 27th, we’ve planned an “Education-A-Thon”. We are asking members to participate and find people willing to pledge them money for the PTP cause, valued up to $25. Suggested people to ask for donations are family, friends of the family, neighbors, teachers, business owners, etc. You can ask one person or several people, as long as you come up with $25 total. Then, everyone will be invited to Mrs. Cummins’ house to read, study, tutor… whatever… for five hours on the night of September 27th. Afterwards, we’ll all have fun swimming, roasting marshmallows over the campfire, and spending the night in each other’s company. Another PTP fundraiser we’ve got planned is being held on October 4th. We are going to be part of the Oktoberfest; and we’re doing a “car smash”. We’ll need members to work in four-hour sessions to encourage people to pay to beat at the car with a sledge hammer. Overall, everything we make from these three projects we will donate to the PTP cause when we go to Fall Rally. -Lorena Yanez
Last week, we donated $1000 to the History Center for the “Save the Cemetery” Project.
Regional Training Conference This past Saturday, 18 Key Clubbers from Cloverdale went to the Regional Training Conference. It was held at the Salvation Army Center in Santa Rosa. Our primary officers went ahead of time to decorate and prepare for the fun and eventful night ahead. Key Clubbers from the whole of Region 15 went and had a night of officer training, workshops, and guest speeches. The guest speakers were Jeffrey Van and Alan Kwok. Jeff talked about membership retention and how to keep all the wonderful members in Key Club. Alan spoke about the Kiwanis family and all the separate organizations within the same family. We also had presentations from all of the Division Leadership Team members and they put on a skit for us about their favorite service projects. Our very own Maggie Duran spoke about the Eliminate Project with Jessica Barbosa, from Windsor; they were very inspiring with their feelings for the MNT project. Later in the night, the officers broke up into groups by their Board positions and had a mini-training. I had a fun time with Raven, and learned quite a bit about the responsibilities of being a newsletter editor and realized just how much I knew. -Paige Wasniak Month

Major Emphasis Project-Eliminate On September 17th the Eliminate committee met at Starbucks and planned mutiple service events to save the lives of the babies in third-world countries suffering from MNT (Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus). We plan to launch a campaign with a projecct called Penny-Wars. In addition, we will be holding a costume party on Halloween at lunchtime in the Library. For Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, we have asked the CHS cheerleaders to collect donations in the crowd at the Halloween football game. We will be dispersing boxes in buisnesses in the community to raise funds. We plan on challenging the Interact Club to a fundraising competition on Halloween night, if they want to do that with us. Our plans also include an online contest with sponsers (Crazy-Selfie contest). We will be joining the Kiwanis Club for a project later in the year, details TBD. On November 15 we will be participating in a division- wide training day for the Eliminate project. All of the committee is looking forward to a successful Eliminate fundraising campaign, and we hope to have the participation of the entire club!! -Liam Kluesener Kiwanis LTG Installation Dinner Want to make a difference? The last Eliminate committee meeting at Starbucks, join us next time!
On Saturday, September 14th, I attended the Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor’s Installation Dinner. It was a wonderful time, filled with great food and even better company! Alayna, Helen, and I were able to spend a while bonding with other Key Clubbers from Division 32. It was a perfect opportunity to see how the Kiwanians interact and conduct business. It’s an event of formal, yet social interaction; and it is a ton of fun. We had the privilege to meet not only the incoming Lieutenant Governor, but also many past Lieutenant Governors, in addition to the Kiwanis Governor (that’s one of the highest honors in Kiwanis!). The Kiwanians are a lively and energetic bunch; and they love to have a good time. If you ever have the opportunity to attend such a ceremonious and memorable occasion, I suggest you go! -Maggie Duran
A Message from our very own President Hello, my wonderful fellow Key Clubbers! I hope you all have had a great year so far! Don’t forget that if you have questions, comments, or concerns about Key Club, feel free to contact any of us on the Board! Just to give everyone a heads up, we will be soon be participating in International Key Club Week, which is November 3rd-7th. So Monday is “Show your K in Every Way” day. We will be planning on asking all our member to bring a friend who is not in Key Club to our Monday meeting that week, wearing our club tshirts, and hanging posters around campus to show our Key Club pride! Tuesday is, “Kudos to the Key Players” day, where we will be writing thank you cards to all CHS staff and plan something special for our Kiwanis and Faculty advisors, Mr. Carter and Mrs. Cummins, and doing more to thank those who regularly help us. So, if any member has any ideas as to how we can do that, the Board is open to any new ways of doing things! Wednesday is, “Connect the K’s” day, so we plan to make sure that we support our Builders Club by going to their annual dinner that night. Thursday we plan to go to the Kiwanis meeting and honor our Kiwanis. On Friday, we plan to hold a “freerice.com” night with the Builders Club. We hope you all can come and participate! Also coming up soon is Member Orientation. This is an extremely important event that I hope all members will mark on their calendars and attend. This is a very educational night that will help you fill in the information gaps you have about Key Club. We’re changing the date, but will keep you posted when we’ve got things figured out. Thank you all for your hard work in the year, so far! We’ve got off to a great start. Our “Save the Cemetery” project was a huge success and the money we gave them was deeply appreciated by the Cloverdale History Center. Our membership committee is making some awesome plans, as is our Eliminators committee. -Alayna Lorence
