Member Orientation ● Every club is supposed to do a Member Orientation event sometime before the end of November ● The event should be held separate from a regular meeting ● It could be held on campus, during a lunchtime, or evening; or it could be off campus on an evening or weekend ● It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but should help the newer members understand more about how Key Club operates

Hold a Board meeting • Hold a Board meeting to make club plans, and to discuss issues that affect the whole club • Plan how to connect with the division and region activities. • You can meet in a fun location, like a Starbucks. • You just have to have a quorum (1/2 of the Board +1). You are SUPPOSED to hold a Board meeting EVERY month!

Kiwanis Take-Over ● ALL your officers should attend a Kiwanis meeting and “Take it Over”. The Key Clubbers actually “run” the meeting for the Kiwanis. ● It’s a good idea to meet in advance with the Kiwanis President to go over how they typically run their meetings, and to get a blank agenda from which to work. ● You’ll need to find out what topics they need to discuss at that particular meeting, and lead those discussions. ● You may even get more information about upcoming Kiwanis events to attend! ● Make sure you plan the program of the meeting. You could share your year’s goals, do a bonding activity, explain an upcoming project... ● It is important to know your Kiwanis, as they do help fund your club. ● Plan this event in the near future, recommended by the end of November

Do a project or fundraiser for a Major Emphasis Program or preferred charity ● ANYTHING to do with helping children is an “MEP” or Major Emphasis Program. ● Key Club International “Preferred Charities” are: ○ UNICEF ○ March of Dimes ○ Children’s Miracle Network
The idea is for your club to do a project with one of these programs!

Participate in the March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Month & Day ● This is the time for your club to raise money and plan events for the March of Dimes. ● If you do raise money with an event, your club should save it for the March for Babies in April. ● The whole month is devoted to March of Dimes, but the “DAY” is on the 17th of November. ● Your project does NOT have to be a fundraiser. You can raise awareness of the cause by encouraging your members and your school to wear purple on the 17th. ● Be creative with your non-fundraising ideas for how to bring attention to the cause!

Spotlight on Service ● Every month, CNH has a ‘Spotlight on Service’ project in which each club must focus on a certain subject. ● September’s was PTP, October was UNICEF, and November will be the Kiwanis Family. ● So, for the month of November you should be celebrating your Kiwanis. ● Along with doing something with your sponsor club, plan events with other clubs in the K-Family, such as Builders Club and K-Kids. ● This will not only help your AAR score, but will help you connect the families and subsections of Kiwanis

You can even get Recognition on the CNH website! ● Write about your experience during November with the Kiwanis Family and you could get recognition for your club. ● The link to the CNH recognition page is: ○ cnhkeyclub.org/service/spotlight_on_service ● It takes about 15-20 minutes to complete their application ● You must report about the previous month’s project by the 5th of the next month ○ So keep December 5th in mind if you want to share what you did in November!

Suggested Kiwanis Family Month Ideas ● Challenge them to match you in March of Dimes fundraising and do a bake sale in front of a store & let them do a fundraiser of their choice. ● Honor the other branches of your Kiwanis Family with small gifts, thank you cards, etc. ● Bring a celebratory Kiwanis Family Month cake to one of their lunchtime or evening meetings. If they hold a breakfast meeting give them all a donut and tell them you “Donut know what you would do without them!” ● Sponsor a fun activity and invite your entire Kiwanis family to join you. Maybe you could go bowling together or do a service project together!

Dues ● Assuming you haven’t already taken care of dues, clubs should talk to incoming members about dues necessary to become an official member. ● Officers need to talk about the benefits and how it affects members in the long run. ● Dues are required to be turned in by December 1st, so make sure to collect them as soon as possible.

More on Dues ●Do not try to pay dues AFTER the Thanksgiving holiday, unless you will be using someone’s credit card to do so. ●Getting a check written, especially through the school, is usually a VERY SLOW process! ●Your club will be delinquent if dues are paid later than December 1st!

Continue to fundraise for ELIMINATE ● Your club needs to raise a minimum of $250 to send off to Kiwanis International for the Eliminate Project. ● That’s every club’s fair share of raising the three million pledged in 2015. ● Assuming you would like a patch for your banner and recognition for your club at District Convention, you need to turn in any UNICEF/Eliminate money raised before X-mas break. So plan ahead! ● We hope that each club takes responsibility for contributing to this Key Club International goal! ● Any fundraiser is useful, but “Dine & Donates” are very helpful

Begin to make plans for District Convention ● Discuss with your Kiwanis necessary funds to help send members to Anaheim. ● The cost is higher this year, so a joint meeting with your Kiwanis is highly recommended. ● A major goal all clubs should accomplish is to send AT LEAST their newly elected Board. ● The more members, the bette,r not only for your club’s experience, but for your AAR score.

Plan Key Club Week • If you haven’t made plans, yet…you should do so IMMEDIATELY! • Key Club Week is the first FULL week of November. This year it falls on November 7-11. • Each day has a different theme and clubs are encouraged to do activities that fit the themes of those days.

● Monday is ‘Show Your K in Every Way’ Day. This means to go ALL OUT in Key Club spirit, and to tell others at school what Key Club is all about. ● Tuesday is ‘Kudos to the Key Players’ Day. You should celebrate your advisors, and Kiwanis members for their unwavering support. You can also thank you school staff, or your own parents and family. ● Wednesday is ‘Dare to Care’ Day. You should plan a service project for a Major Emphasis preferred charity.

●Thursday is ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ Day. As a club earlier in the week, you could make sticky notes or clothespins full of nice messages to spread to everyone at school. Or just remember to SMILE at everyone that day! ●Friday is ‘Connect the K’s’ Day. Your club should plan an event with any of the Kiwanis family, just make sure to keep in contact.
