Currently being used by the division is “weebly.com” & the club site we’re exploring uses it, as well. So we’ll demonstrate using that program.

Steps to Building a Weebly Website

May 1, 2016

You will need to set up an account with them. Once that is done, you can then log in every time using your account name and password.

Once you’ve begun creating your site, when you log on, the first screen that comes up is what they call the “Dashboard”. One of the best things about the Dashboard is that it gives you a clear idea of how often your site is being used!

To get onto the site and actually begin making things happen… you need to click on “Edit Site”.

The first option is the “Build” box

The elements you can use to build the site include:  Title font choices  Text font choices  Inserting images o Image –  Single – is slower but allows for size variation & unique placements

o Gallery –  Pictures can be uploaded

in groups. It only allows for horizontal formatting and pictures are all the same size and shape

 But, it’s a faster upload process

 If a picture is taken in

vertical format, it has to be “clicked on” in order to see the entire photo

Other Useful Elements

A series of pictures can be uploaded to the “Slide Show. They can also be labeled. Then, when people view the site, the pictures alternate for viewing.

“Buttons” can be inserted with labels and then linked to something else.

 A “hidden” page  Another website, or social media site  “YouTube”  “issuu.com” – for a magazine-style newsletter

 Etc.

The “Structure sections allows for dividers and spacers to be inserted in order to arrange the elements to provide more eye-catching appeal.

The “Media elements allow for uploading of documents, video, audio, and more!

Creating Pages

Click on “Pages” to get a new section on the left side. This is where you create each new page.

To create a new page, you click on the “+” sign in the upper right corner of this section. 

A blank new page will then appear at the very bottom of the list.

You hold a click on it and move it up into the position where you want it to be

The pages that you want to appear on the top menu bar extend out to the far left edge of the line-up o Pages you wish to be able to “scroll down” to view are indented slightly under whichever category they fit. o “Side-bar” pages are further indented

On Menu Bar Scroll Down

Side Bars

You may want to “hide” some pages. This means that you’ve placed them on the site, but the only way to access them is through use of a “button” or “link”. They do NOT show up as any kind of menu option.

To “hide” a page, you simply click on the page button found on the far left side. A menu that looks like this will appear.

Click “Hide in Navigation”

Do you want to put a header on a page?

Header Choices

The most important aspects to explore in the “Theme section are the colors and fonts.

Here is where you can make changes in order to meet Graphic Standards

Using Key Club Graphic Standards

For a 27-page color document describing the most current graphic standards, go to www.keyclub.org and find this guide under, “Resources. Download it and save it to your hard drive. Then refer to it whenever you are creating an official document.

What Should Be on the Site?

While you are not required to enter the CNH Distinguished Website competition, you should still make every effort to follow these recommended guidelines

Scoring Rubric in case you do choose to enter the CNH Website competition

Tips for the club webmaster:  Create the site during the summer time  Traditionally it takes 50-100 hours to create the site, depending upon how in-depth you want it to be.  Suggested tabs across the top should include: o Home o About Us Not Limited to These o Members o Multimedia o Contact Us  You need a good photographer o Pictures should be uploaded within 48 hours of any event  This means continued updating on the site  A responsible person, willing to spend regular time on the site, should be put in charge  If you don’t have a webmaster, then a Vice President should take charge of this responsibility.  The “Home” page should be constantly updated and provide links to information found in other sections, depending upon what is immediately important for the members to know.  Some pages, like the “Contact Us” can be created in the summer, and probably never changed for the rest of the year.  What you include in the “About Us” section is really up to you.

What About Facebook?

Facebook can be a useful club communication tool, as long as your members are willing to “join or like your site. Someone will need to invite all members to join & then be in charge of sending out messages. Facebook works even better if an officer/leader makes INDIVIDUAL contacts when needed.

Example of a Well-Maintained Facebook Site

The officers and members are putting regular reminders, pictures and more on the site.
