AGRICULTURE IN ROMANIA Agriculture has returned to a place of honor in the Romanian economy and it is one segment that remains unaffected by the global crisis. Over 80% of Romaniaâ€&#x;s land is cultivated only by Romanians.

About Buzau County Buzau County is located in south-eastern Romania, more exactly in the northeast region of “Campia Buzaului”, occupying 2.6% of the country‟s surface.

Agricultural potential of Buzau County Agriculture is the second based segment of the economy of the county. The agricultural area measures 402.233 hectares, of which 255.282 hectares are arable fields. The private sector owns 80.2% of the agricultural area of the county.

Fruit production The hilly areas of Buzau County are important plantation of fruit trees. In the Buzau Valleys, Slanic and Ramnic regions are numerous plantations of apples, pears, plumps, cherries, apricots and nuts.

Adding value to fruits • Fresh fruits – marketplace sales; • Dried-up fruits ( sun exposure, indirect drying )- sold in specific stores (ro : plafar) • Canned fruits –stewed fruits in marketplaces, en-detail stores; • Jams (exquisite – from green nuts, white cherries, bitter cherries, berries, necatrine which production has grown lately); • Distilled drinks (“tuica” – plum, pear brandy etc.); • Refrigerating warehouses – for fruits exported; • Pharmaceutical products – herbal teas, beauty treatments; • Painting stuff – for clothes, hair dye (strong colour – nuts by boiling leaves) – handmade items.
Productions of grapes In most of Romania‟s hills predominate are the vineyards, but the most known area is at “The Great Hill”, with the famous wine center “Pietroasele” and “The Hill of Calnau”. This center specializes in producing red wines.

The value of vine growing • Stewed canned grapes – some sorts with less seeds (Hamburg, Cardinal, Perla Romaneasca, Coarna) • Wine • Vinegar • Raisins (by drying the fruit) • Perserved (grape vine leaves) – meatrolls.
Production of berries An important role in the work of the Forestry Buzau is occupied by harvesting berries and medicinal plants from the forests. That said, the annual harvest is about: 200 tons of buckthorn 60 tons of rosehip 60 tons of blackthorn 20 tons hawthorn fruit More than 98% shall be recovered on the external market.

Production of grains and vegetables The agriculture is an important parameter of economic activity of the county, having underlined the high quality of topsoil. Also, in the lowlands are cultivated wheat, corn, sunflower, fodder beet, barley, rye, vegetables, etc.

The English Thoroughbred can be admired, ridden or bought from Cislau. Established in 1984 with the aim of producing horses for breeding, the troop of horses Cislau is the only in the country that raises the English Thoroughbred race horse, that is also considered the best breed of horse in the world.
