January 26, 2010 ~ For Immediate Release

Web Designers & Business Leaders Invited To CMS Expo In Evanston Web Designers, Developers and Business Decision-Makers are invited to attend the 4th annual CMS Expo Learning & Business Conference May 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Hotel Orrington in Evanston, Illinois. CMS Expo will feature three days of learning and business networking for web professionals at all skill levels. Those who design websites for a living already know WordPress, Drupal and Joomla have rocketed to the forefront, and now dominate as powerful Content Management Systems for use by publishers in business, education non-profit and government sectors. With surging demand for low-price, high-return software, these three Open Source web design software brands are continue to succeed without multi-million dollar marketing and development budgets. For the most part, all three CMSes were created - and continue to grow exponentially – through grass-root volunteer efforts. Once reserved for hobbyists, Cub Scout packs and volunteer organizations, these CMSes have matured to a “you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me” level of power and ease. Website design and content management software that would have realistically cost well over a quarter of million dollars to create and implement less than five years ago is now available, to anyone, as a free download. Today, Joomla, Drupal and WordPress power over forty million websites of all sizes. From small businesses and association websites to Porsche, Nokia and Proctor & Gamble; from local school districts and municipalities to Harvard University and Rutgers; from personal blogs to TechCrunch and CNN, Open Source has come of age. In 2009, the new White House website was unveiled. It was powered by Drupal. While the price is right on these Open Source CMSes, the learning curve can be quite steep, especially for those taking on more complex applications. It’s time-consuming to learn the software, let alone choose from over 12,000 apps and add-ons to customize the fit, feel and function of any given site. All three solutions are modular, meaning site owners can choose from a huge list of solutions to bolt-on to their existing site; from an ecommerce site to an interactive helpdesk; from a Video Content Management system to a membership development program, and much more. That’s where CMS Expo comes in: to help businesspeople evaluate which CMS to use (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, etc), which add-ons to use, and how to best use them all –in concert - to achieve business objectives on-budget, and on-time.

CMS Expo is the place to learn how to use these powerful software solutions to their full potential for business, education, non-profit and government. For industry veterans and new users alike, CMS Expo was designed to help web designers achieve more with their websites - and do it faster and smarter. Unlike other conferences, which are vendorspecific, the CMS Expo is unique in that it is hosted by a neutral, third-party organization, the CMS Association. The CMS Association’s purpose is to foster the advancement of Content Management professionals worldwide through learning and business networking. Says John Coonen, CMS Expo Co-Host: “CMS Expo is a unique conference in many ways. It’s a conference for the new millennium; it’s community-driven, just like the software and solutions we’re featuring; so CMS Expo focuses on the needs of the end-user; it’s not driven by vendors, trying to push products out into the marketplace. The software developers offering the training were invited by the CMS Association to fulfill the needs of attendees who pay good money to learn, not to hear a sales pitch.” In addition to three days of training on Drupal, Joomla and WordPress, the 2010 conference will feature training on technical and business applications. With six tracks and 72 sessions planned at the Hotel Orrington, attendees will have plenty to choose from. CMS Expo offers training on technical & creative foundations such as PHP, MySQL, CSS, Adobe Photoshop and more; plus a “PowerTrack,” dedicated toward addons used to further empower Drupal, Joomla! and WordPress.
