International President |WELCOME Greetings CNH KIWIN’S Key Clubbers! I would like to welcome you all to the CNH KIWIN’S District’s 2017 District Convention! I hope you all are as excited as I am for this amazing weekend packed full of meeting friends old and new, celebrating your accomplishment during the service year, and getting reading for the new service year to come. Whether this is your first time at DCON or your fourth, you will find joy in participating in the shared spirit for Key Club. Key Clubbers are gathering here, in San Ramon, California to show their undying love for service. I can assure you that seeing hundreds of Key Clubbers like you is quite the sight to see. By seeing all of the other Key Clubbers that care so much about our beloved Key Club, you might just find your own personal passion that drives you. Among showing your spirit for service, discovering how you fit into the big picture that is Key Club International, and celebrating your achievements during this service year, you will also be tasked with the responsibility of helping to select next year’s District officers. These will be the very individuals who will determine the future success of the amazing CNH KIWIN’S District as a whole; such a responsibility may seem overwhelming, but you will ultimately help to select the next leadership that will lead your district to great things. As a term in the CNH KIWIN’S District comes to end, I would like to thank you and your district leaders for your help in making Key Club what it is today. You, your clubs, and your district work diligently to truly represent Key Club International in your homes, schools, and communities. Always remember that there is a reason why we do what we do for Key Club; we do everything that we do and have done because we know that we can and will make a difference in the world around us. I would like to say, and I think I speak on behalf of Key Club International, thank you for everything that you do for your homes, schools, and communities. Although I cannot be with you all this weekend, I hope that you all have an amazing time at your DCON. This experience will definitely be one that you will carry on throughout your lives. So I urge you all to take this weekend as an opportunity: an opportunity to meet new friends, reunite with old friends, and learn something new! Yours in caring and service,
Devin Sun 2016-17 Key Club International President

WELCOME |International Vice President Hello CNH KIWIN’S! Welcome to your annual District Convention. This weekend, make sure you take advantage of each and every opportunity presented to you. Whether it be sitting next to someone you don’t know and striking up a conversation, or attending a workshop on a topic you’ve never heard of, try to push yourself out of your comfort zone. District Convention gives you the opportunity to meet so many members across your district that you otherwise would have never had the opportunity to meet, as well as witness the impact that your service has made on our organization as a whole. This district convention, try to take a step back and think about a few things – let it sink in that that one time you passed around a jar at a club meeting and asked people to donate their spare change to Project Eliminate, your individual donations were saving actual lives. Think about the fact that you are a member of the largest student-led organization in the world. And most of all, think about the fact that you are a part of something bigger. Key Club is an entirely student-led organization that spreads across 37 countries. Every act of service you do, whether it may seem as small as helping a teacher after school, makes a positive impact on your community. This weekend, you’ll find yourself surrounded by likeminded people: teenagers who take time out of their weekends, their school days, their free time to go out and make a difference in the world around them. Throughout convention, you’ll be surrounded by people who are motivated to make a difference, for the better. Cherish it – take as many photos as you can, strike up as many conversations as you can, and make as many bonds as possible. If this is your last DCON, then take some time to really appreciate everything that you’ve been able to accomplish through Key Club, and cherish some of your memories you’ve been able to make. If this is your first DCON, then welcome! You are a member of a worldwide organization that makes a genuine, impactful difference in peoples’ lives. We’re happy to have you. I wish I could be there to meet each and every one of you – but just know that everyone on the International Board is absolutely astounded and unspeakably proud of all the service you’ve contributed, all the money you’ve raised, and most of all, of your relentless dedication to Key Club International. Have a wonderful convention!
Mary-Grace Lewis 2016-17 Key Club International Vice President

International Trustee| WELCOME Hello CNH KIWIN’S Key Clubbers! I’m beyond excited to welcome you to the California-NevadaHawaii KIWIN’S District Convention! This is going to be an amazing experience where you’ll be able to connect with clubs from around the district, elect the new District Board Executive Officers, and learn about how we can better impact our homes, schools, and communities. This will truly be a weekend full of excitement, passion, memories, and connections that will last long after our terms and days in Key Club are over. Being able to serve as your International Trustee has been an absolute honor to me. From the moment I met the district board, I was in awe of how much work CNH KIWIN’S did and all of your dedication to making a difference where ever you have gone. It always brings the biggest smile to my face when I see what all of you are doing, from cheering your hearts out at Fall Rally North and South, to staying awake all night during Awakea-Thon in support of Stop Hunger Now, you have shown your dedication, spirit, passion, and most importantly your love for helping others. When I think back to my first DCON, I remember being blown away by how impactful Key Club truly was. This was my first experience of seeing how far reaching Key Club can be, and it was the catalyst for who I am today. I hope that this experience can act as a catalyst for you too. To the first time attendees, this will be an amazing experience for you to experience Key Club on a district level. Go out there and make some friends, get out of your comfort zone and dive into all of the ways you can help not only better your schools and communities but also yourself. To the second, third, and fourth timers, welcome back! No matter how many times you attend DCON, the inspiration and memories you leave with are always unique. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and I’m always happy to get to know you all so please feel free to stop me and say hi (I won’t bite, I promise)! I’ll see you around DCON! In love and service,
JoJo Saunders 2016-17 Key Club International Trustee

WELCOME | District Treasurer To my second family - my KIWIN’S ohana, We have been on so many adventures together, trekking through many a mountain in our quest for service. Our adventure book is heavy with memories from all the friends we made in our fellow members and advisors. We took on the world – even combatting world hunger and disease! And now, we celebrate another year of service, fundraising, and friendship. As your 2016-2017 District Treasurer, I cannot find words to thank you enough for your dedication to helping others. It is through the hard work of officers and relentless support of members that our district was able to raise record amounts of donations for Project Eliminate, Stop Hunger Now, and the Pediatric Trauma Program. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Four years ago, I was forced to come to District Convention as a newly minted club treasurer. Now I’m here at my fourth and final District Convention, probably crying my eyes out begging for some more time because this is the event that changed my life. This is where lifelong friends are made, and I can only hope that everyone else can enjoy KIWIN’S as much as I have. To the underclassmen who are starting a new chapter in KIWIN’S, I am so excited to see what you have to bring to the future of KIWIN’S. Remember to take advantage of any opportunities you have, even if others try to bring you down. If you fail, don’t be afraid to try again! You really never know where life will take you and I have so much hope for you. To the seniors who are ending their KIWIN’S chapter, from here, we go on separate adventures, and while I wish I could stay in this moment forever, I look forward to seeing the accomplishments you all will go on to do. Remember, this isn’t where the story ends. The lessons and values that you learn while in KIWIN’S are precious. Take them into the world and make a difference. I wouldn’t be surprised if sitting amongst us today is the future president or Oprah. What drew me to KIWIN’S in the first place is the spirit – the spirit of service, the spirit of caring, the spirit of family – and that’s what will resonate with me. Even if we aren’t together anymore, you will all be with me in spirit because each and every single person in KIWIN’S has impacted me, shaping me into the person I am today. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I promise you that I will not take it for granted. We will always be ohana, so please, if you ever see me or someone from KIWIN’S in the future, I hope you will say say hi. You are my ohana, so whenever you need, I will always be there to lead o-hand-a (it’s a pun). Thank you so much for allowing me to serve the CNH KIWIN’S District. Yours in service,
Charissa Nguyen 2016-17 CNH KIWIN’S District Treasurer 9
District Bulletin Editor | WELCOME Hello CNH KIWIN’S! Welcome to the 41st annual CNH KIWIN’S District Convention! It is another year of service, celebration, and history. I would like to extend my thanks to you, who decided to embark on such an eventful adventure with this ohana. First-timer or not, I hope this weekend will be meaningful and educational. For my members, I hope this weekend will be reflective of the dedication you have placed in this organization. For my officers, I hope this weekend will be reflective of your term and the hard work you have placed in this organzation. I would have never thought I would be serving on district board and be leading this district’s growth. I have made so many great connections with people I would never have met otherwise and through these connections, I have been driven to be my best person. Thank you to my district board for the memories, the advisors for the guidance, the people I have met outside of our district, and especially the people who make up this organization. Throughout my term, I have been inspired by the spirit and passion you guys hold. I am incredibly honored to have had your consideration for me as a district officer and I have spent my term giving back to you all as best as I could. You guys have built this organization with your personalities and during this weekend, let us celebrate our service, our family, and our passion with amazing company. I truly do love this organization and the opportunities that it has given me. This weekend will connect you with people throughout California, introduce you to many skills, give student leaders the chance to lead this district, and make you understand the role we have as human beings in bettering our schools, communities, and the world. DCON is a spectacular event that provides these opportunities so I ask and trust that you will soak in everything you can in the limited time you have here; not everyone can say that they screamed their lungs out for a spirit stick or collectively cry in one room with mostly strangers! With that, I hope to see you all around District Convention and definitely do not be afraid to strike up a conversation with me! I would love to meet the people of the ohana I am a part of! Yours in Service and Love,

To the Meme Dream Team ❤ : Thanks for keeping me sane throughout the year and all the Skype Calls and never failing to make me laugh with all the dumb memes and dealing with my bad sense of humor but yet always being so supportive. You all are so amazing and inspire me everyday, and have such a bright future ahead of you. WE BETTER STILL STAY CLOSE EVEN AFTER WE GO TO COLLEGE! To my “mother” Charissa Nguyen: You have honestly saved me so much this year and helped me so much as DCON Chair. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and experience with me and helping me out whenever I was lost. I would not have made it through the term without you. Thanks for being a phenomenal District Treasurer this year and an equally amazing mentor! I’ll make sure to make sure the DCON Chair lineage stays strong and be a good mentor to next year’s DCON Chair! To Shing and Ohtli: You two were literally like my parents this year. Thanks for always driving me everywhere and dealing with me. You guys have helped me out so many ways, and I'm forever grateful I got to end off senior year with you guys. Shing, congrats on an amazing term! You were the honestly best LTG Turquoise could have asked for. I’m so proud of both of you and everything you guys have done for Turquoise. I love you both so much! To Justin Lieb: JUSTIN YOU SERIOUSLY ROCKED AS PRESIDENT OF CAMARILLO KIWIN’S! I’m so proud of all you accomplished this year. You have learned and grown so much, and I can't wait to see where the future leads you. Congrats on a phenomenal year, and good luck with everything during senior year! I love you so much! With love, Iris Shim
